Title: ISO Well-vented helmet recommendations
Post by: triangleforge on May 19, 2008, 01:27:41 PM
Pretty much have my summer wardrobe squared away, with the exception of the chapeau. My Shoei TZ-R is a perfectly fine, serviceable lid, but I can't feel any difference between open & closed on the two little vents (one on the chin, one above the visor). Well, at least the chin one seems to keep the visor a little less foggy when moving in cool weather.

Anyone have recommendations for helmets that flow a lot of air? I'm new to Arizona, so it gets more noticeable by the day as summer starts to roll in.

Thanks!

If you fit Shoei's head shape then both the RF-1000 and the X-11 flow alot of air (the X-11 flows air that can be felt along the chin, down from the forehead, up across nose and over the head).

I've been very pleased with both helmets flow and they're all I wear in the summer (Shark is a spring/fall/winter helmet only for me).

I've owned Shoei, Shark, Suomy and Arai helmets.   Of the models I've owned, the Arai RX7 stands far above the rest as far as keeping my head cool.

I have the Shoei RF-1000 as well as the X-11 and the Arai RX7 and Quantum 2 and I'd say the Shoei X-11 out of 100 would be a 98, the Arai RX7 would be a 96, the Quantum 2 a 94 and the RF-1000 a 94 IMHO. First of all you want a helmet that fits you comfortably. If it's not comfortable you won't enjoy the air flow and it would be dangerous . you want your helmet to fit snug , not so snug that it hurts but tight enough that when it's tightened down you would have a hard time moving it back to front.

My Suomy Spec-1R provides a lot of airflow....

HJC CL10 is super cool and sarbon fiber!!!  I think the RX7 is nice too, more plush and more $$.

I own or have owned at one point the following helmets -

Suomy Spec1R
Suomy Spec1R Extreme
Shoei X11
Dainese Airstream
Vemar VSR
Shark RSR2
Shark RSI
HJC AC12
Arai RX7
AGV Stealth
AGV Titech

Of them all, the Shoei X11 flows the most air HANDS DOWN. You can feel the air move all over your face (if you don't use the breath guard), and you can also feel the air on your scalp. My only complaint about the helmet is that the dark smoke shields aren't dark enough.
