Title: Soho/NYC parking/cruuuiizziinnn
Post by: Flipside725 on June 17, 2009, 01:58:28 PM
Whatsup everyone -

I might be moving to Soho in July and was wondering what anyone living in the area does w/ their bike. The monthly garages are outrageous, and I've never left her on the street, so don't exactly know how that works. Also - who's down for some  [moto]?

Moving from Hoboken - got tired of the daily commute and found a stellar place. I've seen some bikes parked and covered on the sidewalks, and we're not moving to a busy street, so you think I can get away with that and locking it to a post?

I pay ~$200 for a moto-only garage.  Street parking scares me.

Yea, don't trust your bike on the street OR sidewalk...

Hey cdawg, I'd like to know where that garage is ;)

The first thing you need to ask yourself is how upset you would be if you came home/woke up to yer baby kicked over and needing hundreds of dollars worth of work.  There's NO FREAKING WAY I'd park my baby on the street.  The only way I'd even leave it overnight was if a girl invited me into her apartment, and no I don't mean for tea & scones.  ;)

My old garage on 56th street also had parking for those bicycle gondolas.  Those d-bags F-ed with my bike actively and constantly!   [bang]  I think was paying something like $250/month for that kind of extra service  [roll]

Here's an option I used to do with my car.  You could commute to yer bike.  Go find cheap parking a subway or PATH ride away.  Sure, you'll feel like a dork wearing your leathers on the subway but the further away, the less you will pay.  Also, as an NYC resident, you get a HUGE discount on the sales tax for parking, so maybe that's a factor to think about.

Good luck!

if you're going to ride the train to the bike and then ride to work, you might as well just call a cab. Youd be spending an extra $89 a month on a metrocard. and an extra hour a day. and in the summer time, do you now how make the beast with two backsign hot it gets on those platforms?

Not worth it. Move to brooklyn instead. cheaper, nicer people, and your commute might be an extra 15 minutes each day crossing the bridge. But if your into that soho lifestyle, then you're going to have to spend the extra dime for it.

Nobody said anything about commuting.  You move to Soho so you DON'T have to commute!  I always assume (unsafely) that people just use their Monsters as the world's greatest toy and not as a day-to day tool.  I could be wrong.  It's happened before a couplea times  ;)

yea, she's used for recreational purposes only. I think for the time being I'm going to keep her at my old garage in hoboken ($110/mo - path to 2nd street lightrail).

most garages in manhattan are in the vacinity or 200  month... unless you find something that's outdoors or over by the highway... then you can get some reduction but usually its about 200 bucks. NYC aint cheap thats fo sho...

Update -

I found an indoor, motorcycle/scooter parking garage in midtown that's relatively cheap and very easy to get to.
