Title: Beloved CR-106
Post by: CDawg on June 23, 2009, 06:47:05 PM
Here's the update...Dec'09 before it's fixed:

Orange County reaches agreement with Palisades Interstate Park Commission on CR 106

GOSHEN â€" An agreement has been reached between Orange County government and the Palisades Interstate Park Commission that will allow the county to move forward with repairs to County Route 106 in the Southfields-Harriman State Park area. It was closed last year due to safety concerns.

The agreement with the PIPC involves the replacement of two culverts and approximately four miles of road improvements that will be funded through the Transportation Improvement Program. The two culverts will be scheduled for this construction season and the work to be performed by county forces at a cost of approximately $300,000. The road will then be opened on or about December 1.

The county is currently working with the NYSDOT to advance the road improvement project using $2.6 million in TIP; 80 percent would be federal money and 20 percent non-federal.

That portion of the project would consist of selecting a consultant, design, bidding and the construction of the general road improvements.

I hope its ready by next season.  Municipal projects like this rarely finish on time.  That road is great.  It's nice to hear that something is finally happening.

i was there just yesterday. i rode my bike past the "road closed" sign and parked just before the cement barrier. me and my girl climbed over the barriers and we walked over to the rocks at the water and just chilled a little while. it's so beautiful there and i miss stopping there for a quick smoke then continue on my merry way to 17a.

it's not the same having to detour to 17 to get to 17a... :(
