Title: Tall Skinny dude needs a jacket!
Post by: oakley.mac on June 24, 2009, 05:57:13 PM
Ok so as my countdown to owning my first Ducati marches forward I have been researching everything I can to pass the time. My current hurdle is finding the best fitting jacket for my string bean frame. I am 6'4" and about 165 lbs. Most jackets I try on come up short on sleeve length in any size but a euro 54 (or US medium) seems to be a nice torso size. I have had luck with Dainese but am either swallowed in a 56 to get the sleeve length or fit decent with a 54 and look like an ill fitted monkey with my arms hanging out the bottom of the sleeve's.

Are there any suggestions for the best brand or style that would be better fitted? I am not against going with a Dainese, in fact I really love the look & its a bonus that I can get a Ducati branded jacket is great for me.

Any experience y'all have to offer is great!

Thanks!!

I'm 6'1" and weigh 155. I have the same problem as you. A size 48-50 dainese laguna seca fit like a glove, but I ended up going with the Scorpion Stinger jacket. It was $100 bucks cheaper, and feels about the same as far as quality of leather and workmanship. It fits my torso very well, and the sleeves are just slightly long on my arms, so may fit you better. It is a size medium which seems to equate to a slim size 40. The embroidered graphics are also pretty cool.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think I tried on the leguna seca at Cycle gear last week and I did like the fit (tied with the 80's style Ducati branded jacket). Ill look into the Scorpion next time im out & about.... :D

As far as the sleeve length goes , get a good pair of long gauntlet race gloves like some of the Held's ( Steve, Akira , Phantoms ) that will take care of the sleeves if the are a bit short.

I'm 6'4" now , used to be 6'5" but have lost an inch in my old age. I wear Dainese or Ducati Corse ( made by Dainese )  Short leather Jackets exclusively ( size EU 60 )

Dainese to my way of thinking is the slimmest fitting , best quality , short leather  (1.1-1.3mm ), cowhide , Motorcycle riding Jacket.

You may be able to have a professional tailor or someone who works with leather,  taper the Jacket so that it will fit you better in the body of the Jacket.

Be sure to wear a good Back Protector and that may tighten it up some. Especially a separate one rather than a Protector that fits inside the Jacket. Dainese has many .T-Pro has good ones , BMW has an Excellent one.

These are not inexpensive items I'm talking about but they are items of top quality that with care will last you many years and provide you with the kind of protection you deserve .

If you are going to ride the best .....wear the best .

a guy from sportbiketrackgear.com suggested to me that the RS Taichi jackets are very slim fit. it was too ugly for me.

i went with a ICON, its way too big around the middle :P

dianese is my next one to try, just after i hit the lottery  [moto]

p.s. congratulations on your first ducati (i say first because it seems to be a sickness there is no cure for!)

Revitt makes great stuff for people with your build.  I'm 5'7 175 and and where a 52 and had to have the arms shortened by a leather tailor.  Their stuff is top notch too.
