Yea, that's what I've heard also.  Like I said...just throwing it out there to see what happens.  If anything, it made the wife happy to see that!  "If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy!"   [bang]  Not that she hates the bikes, because she doesn't, just that "Family Fun" with the boat is better than a one person motorcycle.

There's a guy in my neighborhood that wants to unload his 2001 Larson 180 SEI (18') pretty quickly because he found some land he wants to snag.  He said he'd sell it to me for $4500 and throw in all the crap he has for it (skis, jackets, covers, wakeboard, etc) if I'd just take it off his hands.  I've been doing research on it and it doesn't seem like a bad deal.  He's taken spectacular care of it (like he does his truck, 4-wheelers and their 5th wheel) and the lowest price I've seen anybody asking for the same boat is $7k.  If anything, I can pick that up...enjoy it with the family over the summer and unload it next season and make a few bucks.  It's worked quite well for me so far on the motorcycles...why not this?

The saga continues....I'll keep everyone posted.   Any opinions on the subject are greatly appreciated also.  I'm curious to hear others stories about similar situtations.

+1

Not quite a large boat, but I had a polaris waverunner for a long time.  After that first summer, it just never got the use to justify the purchase.  Yearly maintenance for a few times on the water each year.  Ended up sellin it + trailer + kneeboard + pull raft + jackets for next to nothing.  Boats rock, but you really need to commit to using them to get anything out of it.  My dad had a  ski boat growing up.  It got a few years service then sat in his driveway for the next 15 years.   [laugh]

On the bike side, someone buy it!  That is a great bike, and a ton of fun for the price.  It would make a perfect urban machine and track toy.  [moto]

$4500 for a boat sounds cheap(?)
Oh wait...forgot to add in $100 in gas every weekend, $100-$250 a month for storage or slip. A big ass truck to haul the the thing in and out of the lake if you don't have a slip. Maintenance costs, parts and repair that would make even the most jaded Ducatista flinch. The four hours of loading, unloading and cleaning associated with going out on the lake alone is enough to deter most people from owning one. The only difference between people who have owned a boat and those who have not are the size of there bank accounts.

I do agree with alot of that said below.

Here's the thing though...I already have a truck (F150) to pull the boat.  I live 1/4 mile from the boat ramp at Hidden Cove park on Lake Lewisville, and I live on an acre of land so storing isn't an issue for me.  It has a foldable trailer tongue, so I can even put it in the garage during the winter time if I want.  My kids absolutely love being on the water/boats, my wife has been bugging me for years to get a boat (mainly because we live so close to the lake), and most of our neighbors are out all weekend on the lake with their families.  It's kind of tough to pass this up....I'm trying REALLY hard to justify keeping the bike, but it's becoming a losing battle.  If I were rolling in the dough...I'd get the boat and keep the Duc, unfortunately, that's not the case.  I've gotta sell one toy to pay for another toy.

Wives and families have a funny way of eventually getting what they want. Face it... you're getting the boat. Put your energy into finding a way to keep the bike too. If papa ain't happy nobody is happy! That works both ways! [thumbsup]

Rule of thumb: If you're going to buy a boat. Buy the biggest one you can afford. You will never regret it on Texas lakes. No matter what time of the year you go out there will be wind. Take for instance if you take the boat to let's say Lake Texoma, I have seen 5ft. white caps on that lake. I have never seen anything less than 2' swells. The coves for skiing there are very prone to wave action from the main body.

With an 18' on Lake Travis, it's suicidal to even launch the boat. Cedar Creek is ok but lots of wind too. Low profile boats don't like large waves. Therefore you're faced with the options of going early, very early on holiday weekends or in the middle of the night. Lake Lewisville...? F*kn ferget it my friend. Stump city!

Guess I'll sleep on it for a few nights and go from there.   [bang] Thanks for everyone's input.  Much appreciated!
