Hi All,
I am Mountie from the Great White North. This is my second year riding, which I refer to as my midlife odyssey. I started on a 1992 Honda 600 Shadow. She is lovely but a real pig in corners. This year I bought a 2002 Ducati Monster 620 ie. It was love at first sight. Unfortunately, she is in the shop right now with an undiagnosed electrical problem.
The mechanic seems to think I will need a new Wiring Harness which he quoted at $1600. After I picked myself up off the floor I asked if there were any other options. He said he could check each wire and this will cost me $300-400. He couldn't promise that he would find the problem which her refers to as a ghost. I asked him to exorcise it. I don't think he got my humour. So, here I am 3 weeks without my bike and looking longingly at every bike that goes by. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Cheers, Heather
Welcome to the cult of ducati diva, there are a few of us here from Toronto, and though you might not see much written by any of us (many lurkers) we will pipe up when there is something you need or want to discuss. Which shop has your bike right now? As there are only 3 dealers here it is pretty limited but there is at least one independant that seems to get a bit of business, Z1 Cycle. Might want to check e-bay and the parts section here for your wiring harness chances are you can get one for significantly less than the shop $1600

And I promise we all obey all the rules of the road here! lmao.
Hi There,
Thanks for the quick reply. I currently have my bike at Rev Cycle located at Bathurst and Front. I have checked out ebay and I can pick up a used Wiring Harness for $99 US.
I just have to find a competent mechanic to install it. I actually live in Georgetown and had to have my bike towed into TO.
It was funny when I was talking to the mechanic I mentioned that I had done some research. He asked me what I had learned. I asked about the Solenoid, the voltage regulator, the immobilizer, safety relay, starter wire, starter antenna and water issues. He assured me he had check all the above.
I am in serious Ducati withdrawl.
I look forward to hearing from all the ladies in the area. Perhaps I can join you for a ride in the future.
Cheers,
Heather
Welcome Heather, congrats on the Duc. :)
Sorry to hear about the electrical problems, hope they get sorted out soon. You might want to post up in the Tech (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=4.0) forum if your mechanic still can't figure it out, we have a lot of very knowledgeable people there. [thumbsup]
Glad to see you found the Women's forum already, your local (sadly not very active) group is DOCTOR (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=37.0).
Hi There,
Thank-you so much for the tips. My husband is getting tired of me looking longingly every time a MC goes by me. Cheers,
Heather [leo]
Wow, sorry to hear about your electrical issues - good luck getting sorted, and +1 to

Thanks for your support. I have to say it is Great hooking up with other Ducati fanatics. My friends mostly ride Japanese bikes and love to tell me that Ducati's are a pain.
I love this bike even if she is a little tempermental. [leo]
Cheers,
Heather
Ah well, we can make fun of ourselves but we know it is all worth it. [cheeky] ;D

Yes it is. Since I picked up my S2R two years ago, I dove right in and started doing my own maintenance. Saves a ton of money. Find yourself a copy of the workshop manual for your bike, a Hayne's manual and LT Snyder's manual for Desmodues available at desmotimes.com. You'll learn a lot about your bike and you will "bond" with it while working on it. A very satisfying experience second only to riding it. ;)
Finally, welcome aboard from a B.C. rider!

+1, couldn't agree more...I never considered myself big into mechanical-things, but regular maintenance is fun, just did my first oil change. Enjoy!
