So I was headed to Notte last night and I went down a four block long hill. My bike was still a little cold. At the end of the hill, the oil warning light came on and the bike cut out. After about five minutes I was able to start up again. The bike then ran pretty rough over to Saint Paul.
So I am coming home, downshifting into the southward turn of 35W and the bike cuts out with oil warning light blazing. This is probably the worst spot to cut out, so I am a little worried. After pulling in the clutch, saying a few hail marys, the bike turns over as I am coasting around the curve. I finally make it to City streets.
I took the bike out this morning and it still is running rough.
My question is what to do now,(aside from the obvious plugs and oil change)? Any suggestions master mechanics? Perhaps I need to reconsider your offer to buy it Ulf!
Hopefully it's the oil pressure switch. You could check your wires near it. It's one of the plugs that has wires coming from it on the side of the engine case. I forget which side but it's very easy to see and get to. I think it's the one on the right near the oil fill plug...anyone confirm this?
Yeah the pressure switch is on the right side next to the oil fill. If you need some help checking everything over let me know, I'm free tonight.
Midwest has an interesting idea about the problem. My battery is about three years old and I have not been riding the Duc as much as usual, this last July. Their idea is that a low battery can cause the onboard computer to act erratic. This would then affect the warning and operation systems.
Thanks for the offer of checking things out.
I am going to change the oil, plugs and throm the battery on a trickle charge. Let you know.....
I'm very skeptical about that theory. Once the bike is running, the battery is not really used. Was there any issue when starting it up? A low battery will have a hard time cranking the motor over to start.
That makes no sense at all. Why would a battery problem have an effect when the bike is running? if this low battery therory is correct then why only the oil light why not the other 4 lights on the dash? Run away from midwest while pushing your bike if you have too. They started to give me the same jive along with the it's your kickstand relay business last fall. As I replied no the bike just seems like it isn't getting fuel, turns out fuel filter. One name; silverback. [bacon]
Luckily I was just buying oil and plugs, and just talking. So no damage done!
The bike did start just fine, (no hesitation).
Well, with new plugs and oil the bike is running great again. The plugs I pulled were pretty black so I am testing using a hotter plug, (going from an 8 to a 9 on the NGK line-up).
Thanks for all the advice and offers for help [thumbsup]!
