...but will a taillight with integrated turn signals pass NY State Inspection? ???
I'm wondering what is "legal" now that everyone is having such a tough time with tickets and stuff.
I think integrated is illegal because the lights need to stick out from the bike a certain distance.
+1
Not legal. Whether they pass inspection depends on how well you know the person doing the inspection. ;)
Though not legal, I've never had any problem with passing. I'm not a fan of the CA lights, but the ViziTec light is ballin'! Of course I don't own the Monster anymore, but Bernard is humoring me and developing one for the Daytona 675... ;D
my CA light passed...... [evil]
Recent reviews have stated the CA lights to be absolute crap, their quality has gone down hill. I'm going to be running an LP (lockhart phillips) integrated tail on my bike. If inspection is a problem just hold on to your stock signals and put them back on for it. Or go to another place ;)
are those for a monster or just your stupid bike that i cant afford. [roll] [laugh] sorry im a poor bastard.
Yea those CA lights suck man stock bulb is 10x better. i wish i could get my hands on one of those vizitech boards.

Fixed ;) and i can't seem to find them for the monster.
stupid fast would be a GSXR600.
shit my pants fast is what your looking for. Aisle 10 by the diapers. ;)
I've never heard of anyone with integrated tail/turn lights being failed on inspection.
Here is the "official" requirements from NYS DMV:
http://www.nysdmv.com/mcmanual/mclicenses.htm (http://www.nysdmv.com/mcmanual/mclicenses.htm)
QuoteA MOTORCYCLE MUST HAVE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT IN GOOD WORKING ORDER:
* Approved lights, including headlight, taillight, stop lamp and license plate lamp, at least one red reflector on the rear and directional signals if the motorcycle was originally equipped with directionals or is a 1985 or newer model.
* Brakes, on 1971 and newer motorcycles brakes are required on both wheels.
* A horn or other warning device.
* At least one rearview mirror mounted on a handle bar, although mirrors on both handlebars are strongly recommended.
* A suitable muffler, "cutouts" or mufflers with removable baffles are prohibited.
* Handlebars no more than 15 inches higher than the seat.
* A seat for the operator and a passenger seat in the rear if a passenger is carried (no more than one passenger is permitted).
Well according to that the integrated lights are not a problem. We are in the clear it must be a California thing [roll]
well, the question is whether the station is looking at the phrase "approved lights...etc" as meaning something. if i dig up the statute, it will probably say "US DOT APPROVED" which I can guarantee you the integrated setup is not.
if I was trying to pull one, I might just claim it was on the bike when you got it... but i would not recommend that.. at the end of the day, it might be a good idea to kluge some DOT lights back on for inspections.

got one of those for the monster??
little update...
went to get my bike inspected today, i failed before it even started.
Went to 2 places, both said, since i have intergrated LED tail lights, and front led turn signals that dont stick out far enough. they wont pass me.
i would like to see what they are relying on for the distance requirement. that is news to me.
their eyes. :P

gou pi!
i mean what is the actual distance requirement in statute?
waht you just call my mama?? >:( [laugh]
i dont know what they are citing. Because the law as pointed out earlier makes no indication of what the minimum distance is. or, I just cant find it. im trying to source out some stock equipment...
Go to Chronic in Deer park. They'll pass you. And do it wile you wait if you call ahead. 631 254 6363
Where did you go?
+1 to chronic
Another place that wont give 2 shits about pretty much anything and will pass you is http://www.kingcycles.com/ (http://www.kingcycles.com/) on Utica in Bklyn.
chronic is too far for a safety inspection. ill try king cycles, do you pay then they do it, or vice versa? I dont want someone to look at my bike and go heh, let me rob his $6 cause i aint gonna pass it. Thats food money right there!
Don't remember, but if kings fails you I'd be surprised. Just call them first, their inspections aren't all hours they operate. If you really think you might fail go here:
queens county cycles
37-37 58th St, Queens, NY‎ - (718) 205-8902‎
they are an HD mc shop but gave me an inspection 2 years ago with a broken horn, broken signal, and worn tires (they never checked the tires). they also sold me the replacement bulb (after passing me and saying, "that broke after the inspection ok?") and they lent me a screwdriver to do the change in front of the shop.
:D I special forces monkey <3 you guys.
went to king cycles today and i passed!
the dude honestly didnt care, and was probably going through the motions. he told a younger tech to stick his finger in my clutch too. lol
anyway, yea king cycles will pass anyone. they do the inspection then u pay.
;) [thumbsup]
