Title: Hi from Southbay (Los Angeles)!
Post by: mendoje on August 05, 2009, 05:02:38 PM
Hello All! My name is Jeff, I live in the Los Angeles area, and I just bought a 2003 Monster 800Sie.  I've had my motorcycle license since age 14, starting with a brand new '77 Kawasaki KE100,  My longest ride was round trip from Los Angeles to Vancouver Canada on my '81 BMW R100RS (now sold) via Hwy 1.  I took a break from motorcycling around '93, but picked it up again about 3 years ago with an '04 BMW R1100S, which the Monster 800 now joins in the garage.  My latest rides are quick trips was through the foothills and mountains surrounding Los Angeles, including the reopened Angeles Crest Hwy on Memorial Day weekend.  Ride Safe!

Welcome Jeff, congrats on the new Duc. [thumbsup]

How'd you like the ride to Vancouver?  That sounds like quite the trip.

Don't forget to check in with your local group, SoCal Monsters (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=21.0).

Also, we love bike pictures if you have any to share. ;D

Hey somegirl, thanks for the warm welcome!

That Vancouver trip was quite some time ago (1989), but still plenty of memories!  Just 3 years out of college, a college buddy and I took off a couple weeks from work and just headed north.  No itinerary, the basic plan was just to meet up with his relatives in Vancouver.   In Oregon we took that "left turn" to the Lost Coast Highway, but only lasted a few miles and had to turn around.  It was far too rough for my R100RS and his R80RT, we had no idea what we really needed were GS's.  Lots of pictures from that trip and others, but that was before digital cameras, so I really need to transfer them to digital.

Currently having lots of fun in the local twisties with the R11S.  But before I head up to ACH with my new-to-me M800, I want a Duc mechanic to give it a once over, just for my own peace of mind, so I'll be searching the forums for a good local independent.

Welcome, Jeff! I know you will enjoy this forum and your bike - the trip to Vancouver sounds like it was cool. I'm from WA, some really great scenery along the west coast. Enjoy!

Thanks Somegirl!

Hopefully with my next post, I can throw up some pics from my '89 Vancouver trip.  Next in store for the M800 is a suspension upgrade: Superbike forks and Ohlins shock.  For the Beemer, it already has front & rear Ohlins [thumbsup] so next I've got cam sprockets and Boxer Cup Replika farings ready for install.

Lots to do!
Jeff

Well, it's taken awhile.  But over the last few weekends finally addressed suspension and ergonomics, with goodies collected since before December (SBK forks (resprung), Ohlins rear shock, Sil Moto Pipes, SBK fender, Ducati low seat, CRG levers and mirrors).

[beer]  Thanks to all, couldn't have done it as easily without the search function and the archives!  Jeff
