I am in the market for a new pair of boots (that can actually fit over my A-star riding pants and huge A$$ calves) and was curious if anybody has experience with Puma's 1000V2. I have been riding Sidi boots for quite some time and they fit great, but like the ankle protection that the V2s seem to give. Plus, they are a good bit cheaper than the Vortice as well. Thoughts?
the pumas look like total sex
but they also look like its rocket science to get them on and off. im a HUGE fan of the sidi zipper that goes all the way to the sole. the vertigo corsas are very competitively priced right now, and have what id call good ankle protection.
what sidis do you ride right now? i do love the pumas, i just think i wouldnt wear them much if they are a hassle to get on and off
They do look a little complicated, but have you seen the Sidi Vortice? You almost have to have a master's degree to pull those things on and off. ;) I am currently riding with a pair of Strada Airs, and that is one of the reasons that I want something a bit nicer, or should I say burlier... Plus, I finally got some nice leather/tex riding pants to wear instead of my draggin' jeans and the Strada's full length zipper has an incredibly difficult time making it over trouser leg. I did try on a pair of regular Vertigos last week and seemed to have the same problem with the full length zipper. Maybe I did not have the tension relaxed enough on the calf armor, but these were a size 45 and I usually wear a 44. This led me to trying on the Vortice, which were also a size too large (the curse of the average), and they did the job quite nicely as far as calf fit goes. But the complicated way in which they go on and off turned me off a bit. Four line closure buckles to lock down, then tighten? So that led me back down the road to the Puma. They seem to offer even better ankle protection than the Vortice, don't look quite as flashy if you pick the right color combo, and can be found for less than the regular Vertigo at the moment.
By the way, I have only seen the Vertigo Corsa available in white (in a 44). Any idea where any more exist?
mm i know newenough had some corsas, but they wouldnt show up unless you specifically searched for them in the search bar. I googled corsa closeout or something.
they are more rare than the other sidis atm but there should be some left still.
i agree with you that the puma is easily the classiest boot in the right color combo (i die for black and copper)

dare i call it the gentleman racers boot? if you can get them for less than vertigo regular, just get them!! post up your impressions and convince me to buy a pair too!!! i just hate anything with laces!
Well, I pulled the trigger on a set of black/white/shadow boots this morning. Now all I have to do is wait for them to get here and hope I ordered the right size.
I've got the Puma 1000s. They fit with the alpinestars track pants for me (I have skinny calves though). I like them. They are not easy to get in and out of. Got them on egay for a very very very low price.

Will do. I first saw the discounted prices over the weekend and was like :o! Called them up Monday morning, had a chat with Ed and got some on their way to me.
Love my Desmos... :)
Marv, how did they fit on you? Were they true to size?
Actually was fortunate enough to find them at CycleGear and try on first because the size says US: 11 EU: 44... I'm a size 44 EU but size 10 US... *shrugs* So yes and no... that help? lol I'd go with your EU size and should be GTG...
Good luck my friend! [moto]
Cool. I had always heard that these boots ran a bit tight, but have never tried them on. I do have a couple pair of Puma shoes though and their 45 fits me pretty well. Sidi's 44 fits me spot on as well.
I'd go with the 45's then... my Puma tennis shoes are 43's...
Boots came in last night. The test fit was pretty good. They don't fit my feet quite as well as my 44 Sidis, but felt nice. About to see how they do over the riding trousers. One thing about these boots though; I can tell already that they are going to be quite warm. So maybe not the best of boots for those living in warmer climates like say Hawaii. [roll]
Good thing I live in Central Oregon then, huh? :P

what size did you end up getting? i wear 11 US but only 44 EU (which according to sidi is like a us 10)
and are they a bit too tight or a bit too loose?
is this boot offered in a perf version? i should have got my corsas in perf so i could get these in standard. ug, hindsight!
you put any miles on them yet?

I ended up with the 45s. They fit pretty good actually. They were a touch loose when first put on, but seemed to conform to (break in) to foot pretty well on the first ride. I am usually a ten/ten and a half in regular street shoes, and my old Sidi Strada Air fit me like a glove!
I haven't seen them in a perf version, and I will be a bit upset if I seem them in perf now as that is what I would have wanted. What part of the country are you in?
