Title: Initial impressions: Arai Corsair V
Post by: 1313 on August 19, 2009, 03:44:43 PM
I finally got my Corsair V helmet after months of wanting. I managed to score a standard gloss black V brand new for under $500 shipped. There are still plenty available from this particular dealer.  [beer]

I did a few quick blasts down a long road by my house..

1. The helmet flows pretty well even at low speeds.
2. It is loud. Not high pitched loud so far as I've only gone up to 80 mph for the quick assessment. You can hear air rushing in. It's that kind of sound..
3. Super stable (compared to my Shoei RF-1000). I can turn my head which ever way and don't feel any noticeable drag. My RF felt like a brick wall when I would turn my head during cruising.
4. Visor removal is super easy. Re-installation is a pregnant dog. I need to get it down.

So far so good. This is my first experience with a premium helmet. I guess I'm one of the few that can fit both Arai and Shoei helmets without a problem. I actually downsized to a medium on the Arai due to the taper at the bottom being a bit larger. No more hurt ears.

Pics later tonight. Time to ride.

Sounds almost exactly like my story, only I got a matte black Corsair.   [thumbsup]

I've been looking for this helmet at a decent price. Would you mind sending me the details of this particular dealer? Via PM of course.

Sending PM.

I logged 92 miles tonight with the helmet. Good stuff.  [drink]

Arai makes good stuff. Oh and just for kicks don't forget to try out your chin spoiler, I have friends that say they don't notice any difference when its deployed but I feel a significant difference at freeway speeds.

+1

I switched from a large RF1000 to a medium Corsair V also.

Definitely agree w/ your assessment- great air flow, noticeable air-flow noise at speed, not as much drag, and very stable. Good work.  [thumbsup]

Sportbiketrackgear is where I got mine.  Decent price, plus it came with a free tinted visor.

I am not sold on the Corsair V vs the last generation Corsair RX7.

I ordered the same size in the Corsair V but it seems much more snug.

Also it doesn't seem to fit down on my head like the RX7 does.

I always wear a Helmet liner so I never feel the air moving over my head.

I can only surmise that it flows as good as the RX7.

I haven't noticed a great difference with the rear Spoiler settings like I had hoped.

So far the jury is still out on this one !

the new one might be more snug because it's new... the liner breaks in a bit.

I noticed that trying on the same size V, there seemed to be a bit more room up top, and the helmet shell provided more coverage past the chin than the RX-7
