Title: 620 vs. 696 .... round one
Post by: Valor on May 22, 2008, 05:33:35 PM
No, not a riding comparison. Sorry. I need advice ... or opinions I guess. I'm *this* close to buying a black 696 ... and selling my beloved 620. I'm really torn about it. Been changing my mind for days.

So, I turn to my wise fellow riders. What the hell do I do. I love the classic look. But I test rode a 696 and kind fell in love.

Well, what would YOU do?

(a side question: Think $5000 is reasonable for the 620?)

Only you can decide this..... which gives you more satisfation?? Which brings you more joy? This is like dating two girls and realizing the time has come to make a decision. It's all on you.

Why not have both!   [thumbsup]   [beer]

It's nothing like dating two girls, because one motorcycle won't get angry or upset when you ride the other!   [evil]

When you park your 620 does it stand OUT from the rest of the Kawayahamhonda next to it? When you ride your 620 do people stop and stare at a red light? Do they point on the street while you read their lips and make out the word... "D U C A T I"

Do you think the same thing is going to happen when you're on that 696?

If you are that unsure then do this: buy the 696 but keep your 620 under a cover in the corner of your garage for a good month or so after you get the 696.

Now hear me out...

The reason I say that is because I have sold a car or two in my past to "upgrade" to the "new cool, better handling, faster" model and have ended up regretting it and realizing the reason I loved the old ones so much had little to do with the the speed or its newness, but everything to do with the look and character of them.  That and all the good times I had in them.

That way if you realize you made a mistake and start to miss your 620, you can sell the 696 and go back to the 620, if not then just sell the 620 like you were going to anyway and dump the money on the loan or checking account or whatever.

My opinion.....I think the 620 looks better, every inch of the 696s exhaust just looks wrong and messed up.  But....I'm sure the 696 does everything the 620 does only better and some people love the way they look so in the end its up to you.  [thumbsup]

Exactly! would the 696 look THAT great in a kitchen? [evil]

So, what about the 696 made you "fall in love?"

I've never been able to ride two motorcycles at once...

Do not sell that beauty [leo]
If you must, please have a 696, also. If you can afford it for a while: how about getting/keeping/riding both and sell the one you can bear to part with?

I never said they became angry or upset when I rode the other.  [evil] Only that I had to make a decision..... turns out women are more expensive than Ducatis when it comes to maintence.  [laugh]

No brainer.. Keep the 620! Looks clean and sharp. You'll like the 696 for awhile then you'll realize that the 620 can be just as much fun for less money. Its never a good idea to buy a first year model. If  I were you, I'd consider an SR 800 or the very fun and addictive 1000. You could find a good used one for what you pay to have the new 696.

If you're upgrading from a 620 go with an s2r1000 or the likes.  If you are upgrading, no reason to go entry level to entry level.  Unless of course you really love the new looks.

Tough call...you do have a sweet looking bike,at the same time you will be getting the new breed Monster.Umm...Great reviews on the 696,classic look on the 620,i would toss the coin on this one.Better yet,go for the new breed, you can always go back and start a new 620 project. ;D

stating the obvious: the 696 looks like the factory tried to copy what you've done to your 620.
just sayin'.. it's like.. the same, only.. different.

I wouldn't do it.  The 696 is basically the same as your 620, and will cost you a lot more in mods to personalize it.  620s are nice bikes.

If you like the upgrades and style of the 696, wait until fall when Ducati announces their new models.  There will probably be an 1100 Monster coming out with the new style.  Hopefully even cooler with a SSS.  That's all speculation of course, but waiting to see can't hurt.

Hey ... thanks for talking sense into me folks. I picked up my 620 from the dealer today. 6K service, new tires ... and it feels like a new bike. I know this is a personal decision for each person, heck I might wait til next year and snag the new 1100 Monster my dealer is dropping hints about. But for now, the classic look wins!

Hmmmm...... I will most likely keep my M620 and get the 696 as a second bike. But then too, my M620 is also my first bike. [moto]
