So TOB had one...we need one too. :) I know quite a few of us have some nice ones.
I'll start. This is one I got about 2 1/2 years ago. The Octopus was done a few years before that, so it doesn't exactly match the style, but what can ya do. :P I'd love to fill out my sleeve, but my current career wouldn't be too accepting. :-\ Someday I'll hopefully have a job where it doesn't matter. Cool stuff daryl! [thumbsup] The dragon and octopus are especially bad ass. If I ever finish my sleeve part will be a dragon. I'd also like a Japanese ghost (the geisha girl one...I think that's what they're called). Not sure if I'd get it though...it's the one thing my wife isn't crazy about due to the gore.
How's the chest feel? Everyone told me the inside of my arm would be painful, and it was, but I thought near my collar bone was worse.
I've had my mind set on getting a Japanese-themed tat when I reach Dan level in Aikido. That won't be for a for awhile though so it will give me time to condense all the ideas I've had into one design. There's too many things I want to incorporate into it to make it more personal!
Anyone designing their own or are you just leaving it up to the aritst?

I have a Cherry Blossom Princess (which sounds kinda like what you're talking about) that runs from my left nipple down my ribs about 1/2way down the thigh. It's an amazing tattoo, I need to take a picture and I'll post it up.

Chest isn't that bad. Gets a little touchy near the nipple, but it's no big deal. The ribs are by far the most painful place I've ever had tattooed, but it's still not bad enough to ever say stop (and that tattoo was ~24hrs).
Also, I should note that I've had all my work done with a more traditional style - no magnums, so that means all my color/shading was done with a 4 flat. Magnums are much faster, but IMO the resulting work shows the lack of time taken.

I always leave it to the artist. I trust my artists and they're some of the best in the world, so why would I try to tell them what to do?

I just gave him my idea, then looked at the sketches to make sure it captured what I was generally thinking. Still his art though...I'm just an enginerd. The fill work around the main features was all his idea.
You just have to find someone your comfortable with and trust.

The princess sounds cool...love to see a picture.
What's a magnum or 4 flat? The number of needles in the bunch and their orientation? Not sure what my guy used...he told me but I forgot. Mine took about 7.5-8 hours total (minus the octopus).
<-------- Just have the one that brings bad luck if left uncovered.

I hear that "most" if not all, tattooist's in Japan are linked to teh Yakuza. As you may know, tattoo's are highly frowned upon in Japan society, so tattooist's are harder to find in Japan.
I'm dying to get inked again, I know I want an eastern inspiration but can't decide between a Japanese dragon, Koi fish, tiger or a phoenix. The phoenix would be the most appropriate for me, with what I've had to go through the last few years and how I've come out a better person. Well, I think I'm a better person, i ride a Ducati now. ;D
I'm not sure about most... that seems to be... a bit of a stereotype.
the youth culture is alot more westernized, and (from what I've seen) the tattoo culture reflects that sort of 'americanism'
whether or not it's legal to 'show' ink in japan, I have no idea. it used to be illegal, last I heard.

No offense to anyone here, seriously. This is just more of a personal observation. But, at least for me...I'm not a fan of tats. I mean my wife has one. She's a graphic designer / artist type so go figure. I can appreciate the artistry etc. I really just don't like the look. Seems like it's such a popular thing now and everyone just has to have it done. They use to be a sign of rebellion. Now the biggest rebels will go against the popular thing and not have any! ;)

i have two ducks, one on each ankle. the one on the left is yellow and has a halo, and the one on the right is red and has devil horns. sorry for the crappy quality of the pics, but its pretty hard to get a good pic of the outside of your ankle, and have it focused, and close enough to see, and be able to see the colors well. they are about 2 1/2 inches long from the front to back.

I'm 99% sure that it's not illegal, just very uncouth. If you have them you're not supposed to show them in public. When I was there in 97-98 the general rule was still that tats on Japenese = Yakuza. The social stigma on them is so great that the only ones with the juice to have them and not catch shit, are gangsters. At least that was the general rule 10 years ago.

Probably is, I can't see how I could have held a camera and managed to shoot it properly. AF doesn't work well with mirrors, so where it's IZ_, that's probably the case.
The characters are strength (behind the dragon) love (by the chest) and good luck (above). The accuracy depends on how well the artist was able to duplicate the characters ~

Not a whole lot of ink, but the one I like best is a simple, four point celtic knot around a 14-tooth track (bicycle) cog:
My partner has the same image on her back, though with a simple circle rather than the cog. I brought the cog to the artist so that he could design around it; the part's in pristine condition, because there's no earthly way I could turn a 14 on the track without embarrassing myself -- mostly because the other tattoo is as much aspirational as it is factual, a stylized "Mr. Horsepower" that found its way onto my right shoulder after I started putting the Clay Smith Cams (or sometimes the similar, sans-cigar Thrush Muffler) decal on my race bicycles:

No, from what little I know of Latin,
I THINK his right arm (that which appears in the left of the frame) is about the majesty of the Holy Trinity, and his left arm is the "formal" story of the crucifixion and the glory of the resurrection of Christ.
I'm sure that someone has the ability (and time) to google it 8).

It is how the font is supposed to be.
If you measure where the bottom of the R is to where the top of the T is, the spacing is identical to all the other letters

you do not kern letters with a ruler :)

i really didn't ask the question in order to give you a hard time. i wasn't sure.
regardless of measurement, DuCaTiNi is correct. that aint the same spacing.
guess its not then
However, I knew what it looked like before the needle went on my arm and I was pleased with it.

i only notice it because i'm a designer ;)

I have a question for everyone else out here who has ink
I’m thinking of getting another tattoo. All of the ones I currently have are easily covered by normal daily clothing. But I have an idea for something small that would go really well on my inner wrist. I spoke to my artist and he said he’ll do it but was very specific about telling me to think carefully about it as it is one place that can never really be hidden.
I have no problem with it, nor do I think it’ll present a problem in my field of work, but there is still some stigma to having them, especially on such a conspicuous place. I went so far as to have him stencil it for me and wore the stenciled version for about a week. I didn’t get any bad feedback from my co workers, but I wasn’t out showing it off to everyone I could find.
Is there anyone else who has ink there and what has been the general reaction to it, and have you regretted getting it there at all? What would your initial reaction to someone with one there be in general?
Thanks for the feedback and potentially helping me make my decision.
jimi
I don't have one there, but I've considered it and here's what I concluded...
I personally would put it higher up on my wrist, so as to cover it up with a long sleeve shirt if really necessary. That, or, make it small enough that it can be covered by a watch or wristband of some kind.
I'm a stay at home mom now, so I don't need to interview for jobs, but all of my tats are/will be able to to covered up at some point just in case there's that crucial job interview or someone I need to impress. That's just me though, and a lot of people are different. It's all up to you and what you are comfortable with. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the "stigma" unless it could mean your job. I rock my tats proudly otherwise, and if someone doesn't like them, they can just look away.
I would say go ahead and get your eentire upper body done....thats what i am aiming for.
one of these days, I'ma finish my shit...

I have a tattoo on the inside of my left wrist. Two lines of roman numerals. I have had no problem with it at any of my jobs, or interviews. It actually seems to be something people like to talk about. They ask what it is and then I tell them (each line is one of my brother's birth dates), and it usually makes people understand it a little more...I guess it would depend on what you are planning on getting.
I actually feel like it is pretty easily hidden though...long sleeves or a watch cover it no problem if I do worry about it. But again, that depends on how big you're going.
Honestly, I'd say go for it.

I don't have any ink, but I do have a large number of people who work for me, and for the record, your appearance is judged. This includes tattoos. I wouldn't get it anywhere visible.

Your avatar would make a nice one, 'tini. . .

The tat I’m considering is very motorcycle specific, colorful and simple, and not too large, probably about 3 inches long. Still it would be larger then could be hidden by a watch, plus it would be on my right wrist. My artist (who does have both his wrists inked) was VERY specific that he considers anything on your wrists as not something that can be hidden. He mentioned that with a long sleeve dress shirt it would still be exposed when you went to shake hands with someone. He also pointed out that quite a few HR managers are female and that they, in general, have a more “opinions†about tats.
I’m a manager in the automotive field so work shouldn’t be a problem but I still keep the stigma in the back of my mind. I really like the tat and the placement is perfect in my mind I just hate the fact that I’m waffling due to what other people might think. A big part of me says, F*2k’em if they don’t like it, but… it’s still something people have strong opinions about.
Mr. Inc, if you don’t mind me asking you, what field are you in and are you responsible for hiring? If so, are your impressions of a potential employee influenced by the tattoos in general or by what they are of? If you were to have me sitting across your desk at an interview would it be something you would bring up when you noticed it? I’m just trying to gauge the impression it would make on someone who’s impression of me mattered to me.
in a similar vein, i want a full sleeve but its not going to happen, because i may need to change jobs or do this or that in the future, and I don't need to be screwed because of it.
a friend suggested "socks" instead of sleeves. that's just ridiculous.

that's GOTTA hurt...
I went through a similar process before I started my full sleeve and this is what I ultimately decided:
If I go to someone for a job and they judge me on my ink and not on the quality of work I do, then they aren't someone I want to work for. Plain and simple, no matter how much they want to pay me or how badly I want the job. Now while this may come back to bite me some day, I'm sticking to it. To me it shows they are close minded. I'm not quite 30 and I feel that as people my age start make up a bulk of the work force tattoos are going to become an after thought. Now depending on where you live in the country opinions in general my differ. I feel that people need to get over the negative stereotypes that associated with tattoos. Why not become another person that can help do that? IMHO if you can't get by the fact someone has ink then you are living in the stone ages.
One thing to think about is, if the tattoo is rather small and things in your life change down the road you can always get rid of it. It's gonna hurt, a lot, but it won't be there any more.
I say go for it.

I work in aerospace-we build satellites. Sirius, XM, Direct TV etc-all us. I supervise the build, AKA I have a team of technicians who do work per instructions-these are guys without degrees, just a good set of computer skills, can read a drawing, and follow out a well laid procedure. They get paid a lot, and they should-the average cost is around 200 million to get one of these up there. I don't hire them, I do interview them though, and occasionally, I have them fired.
Let's run down a few issues I would see here.
We work with the customers, closely. We have a full time customer rep (sometimes two), who do nothing more than watch us build the thing. If you work for me, you WILL look professional. AKA, shave your face, cut your hair, and leave the piercings at home. We do our best to give the customers nothing to question (delays run around $4000/hr). Having the guys look clean and neat is an easy one.
Social norms-see your own post You're concerned with what other people might think, then coming to the conclusion of "make the beast with two backs 'em if they don't like it". That doesn't scream top employee to me. No, I don't like it-most people don't, this is not news. The fact that one would go and do it anyway basically screams to me "I don't want a job". It's the classic "dress for success" thing. You need to look and act professional if you want to be taken seriously.
I don't care if the quality of your work matters more-I haven't seen your work yet. I'm seeing you, and one of the first things I'm seeing is,
you don't care what people think of you're appearance. Like it or not, it's not accepted yet. If you want to be part of bringing it about, that's fine with me, but be aware you
will be judged on it.
Which doctor do you want checking your health? Appearance matters.
+1. Appearance matters for various jobs. Do you want a tatted up lawyer representing you in a divorce proceeding / child custody battle?
Mr. Inc,
First off thanks for replying to me. Your the opposite side of the fence in this for me and I'd like to bounce a few things off you if you don't mind.
Social norms-see your own post You're concerned with what other people might think, then coming to the conclusion of "make the beast with two backs 'em if they don't like it". That doesn't scream top employee to me.
Your right here but the tattoo I'm thinking of isn't large or offensive.
No, I don't like it-most people don't, this is not news. The fact that one would go and do it anyway basically screams to me "I don't want a job". It's the classic "dress for success" thing. You need to look and act professional if you want to be taken seriously.
The situation I'm talking about would be more where I was professionally dressed, in a proper corporate interview environment. My shirt and suit would cover most of the tattoo but I know that at some point in time during the interview you might, you will see it. I'm wondering if your view of an otherwise worthy Candidate would change in this case.
I don't care if the quality of your work matters more-I haven't seen your work yet. I'm seeing you, and one of the first things I'm seeing is, you don't care what people think of you're appearance. Like it or not, it's not accepted yet. If you want to be part of bringing it about, that's fine with me, but be aware you will be judged on it.
Again it's not something that I would throw in the face of an interviewer but I'm aware that they will see it. Do you think that if I presented myself in an otherwise professional manner the sight of the tattoo would change that impression?
Which doctor do you want checking your health? Appearance matters.
Agreed, but I'm not talking about that drastic a difference in my appearance.

Right there... that is all that needs to be said.
I usually don't care or give a crap on whats said in alot of these threads. But the above statement is wisdom. [clap]
Not that I agree with everything you say in other threads. :-*
I will agree that people will judge you to some extent. I find it rather sad that you all seem to associate tattoos with the negative. Just because someone has ink that's poking through doesn't mean the aren't/don't want to be successful/professional. Nothing I say is going to change that, but I'll leave a cut and paste from wiki below for everyone to think about. To each is own I guess.
A prejudice is an implicitly held belief, often about a group of people. Race, economic class, gender or sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and religion are other common subjects of prejudice. It can be used to characterize beliefs about other things as well, including "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence."
Nobody on here is judging anyone. Many people on here have tattoos, including myself. All we are trying to explain is that if you have visible tattoos, you WILL run into difficulty at some point if you try to move up the ladder in the job world. That is how the world works. You can either accept that and place your ink in places that are easily hid OR you can give the world your middle finger and place them anywhere you want.
As a side note, many of my friends have tons of visible tattoos. Very few of them are successful. Most of them work part-time, usually minimum wage and scrape by every month. They probably won't ever amount to more than that, simply because no one hire them. A few of them have tried and failed. But, they are ok with it, to each his own yes?
Quote from: Rufus120 on June 12, 2009, 05:36:36 PM
I will agree that people will judge you to some extent. I find it rather sad that you all seem to associate tattoos with the negative. Just because someone has ink that's poking through doesn't mean the aren't/don't want to be successful/professional. Nothing I say is going to change that, but I'll leave a cut and paste from wiki below for everyone to think about. To each is own I guess.
A prejudice is an implicitly held belief, often about a group of people. Race, economic class, gender or sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age and religion are other common subjects of prejudice. It can be used to characterize beliefs about other things as well, including "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence."
nobody is saying it's right or a good thing, we're just saying it happens and people should know that.. depending on what profession they enter.
I have no visible ink. I don't care if anyone does and I am more likely to talk about the tats/ask questions/bullshit, etc., but I will not hire an attorney to go into court with visible tattoos either. If it shows in business attire, I'll let a competitor hire you and risk their reputation in front of a conservative, close-minded, prejudicial Court. I would assume any business that has clients who may not like tattoos would be the same. Just smart business sense. If it's a business that has a standard look, and you want to get hired, then fit the look. I'm not going to walk into a bar for a bartending job in my best suit and power tie...the owner might be close-minded and make assumptions about me that won't help me land the job.
I just want to make sure that it's clear I'm not pointing any fingers here. I just wanted to throw that out there in the hopes that people think about their own thought processes so that one day maybe it won't be such a big deal.
I do think it's funny you called the attorney an "it" ;D
Quote from: wantingaduc on June 12, 2009, 04:39:10 PM
Your right here but the tattoo I'm thinking of isn't large or offensive.
It's all perception, really, and it might not even be conscious.
I personally have no issues with ink, but my customers might. It's not worth the risk to me. Half my techs do have ink I've seen-but I only ever see it at the cookouts/softball games. It's hidden at work.
I would just move it on up the wrist so you can hide it, but that's just me. It's your body. Just giving you the other side of the fence. ;)

hell yeah.. although most everyone that works for me is tattooed.
Mr. I has a very good point...if it's something you're very worried about...move it up a little higher. I haven't seen your tattoo (of course), but if it's something where moving the placement a few inches isn't going to hurt it, then go for it.
Like I said, mine can be easily covered by a watch or a bracelet or a sleeve, but guys don't have so many options...:(
I don't think it's right to judge people because of something like that, but like everyone else has said, that's just the way it is and (sadly) it's not going to change any time soon.
Good luck with whatever you chose to do anyway. [thumbsup]

Exactly. I have a few tattoos and can't imagine falling asleep during the process, especially if it were my face being inked up. :o
I'm guessing she is either lying, or was all drugged out and doesn't remember what she asked to have done.
Who knows though. ???
Yeah, I think she's FOS...

Sort of a broad statement, no?
Cyrus and I both have visible ink on our wrists. Whenever he has a business meeting or is in a professional environment, a long sleeve shirt takes care of that. I have seen lawyers with sleeves but you would never know when they are in the courtroom.

ok, i'll share. was gonna wait until it's done but it might not be for awhile.
here's the work in progress on my back.
chris garver started this before he was asked to be on miami ink, back when he was still doing most of his work at "new york adorned". between his and my hectic schedule, it's been a real pregnant dog to try and schedule time to finish my back. i got a couple more that i'll take a pic of once i can get a camera.
lots of shading left to do. keeping it black and grey...hopefully i can finish it this year.
sorry for the anonymous hands but it's the best pic i have ;D

So it looks like the girl with all the stars on her face is finally fessing up to what really happened. [roll]

BRUSSELS - A Belgian teenager who had 56 stars tattooed on the side of her face admitted that she had lied about knowing what happened because she was afraid of her father's reaction, British media reported.
Kimberley Vlaeminck told a Dutch TV crew that she made up the whole story because her father became angry after he saw her star-covered face, The Telegraph reported on Monday.
The 18-year-old initially claimed she had fallen asleep during the procedure, and woke up in pain when her nose was being tattooed.
Vlaeminck had told police she emerged from a tattoo parlor with 56 stars over one side of her face, rather than the three she had asked for. She even threatened to sue tattoo artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz, for the thousands she needed for laser surgery to have them removed.
She blamed the Flemish-speaking tattooist for not understanding her French and English instructions.
But she told Dutch TV this week, "I asked for 56 stars and initially adored them. But when my father saw them, he was furious."
The tattoo artist also said Vlaeminck had agreed to 56 stars.
"She agreed, but when her father saw it, the trouble started," Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws quoted the man as saying.
Vlaeminck said she wanted to keep the tattoos on her forehead but would have the rest removed.
And for Toumaniantz?
Toumaniantz, who is covered from head to toe in tattoo artistry, said the only thing he was disappointed in was having an unhappy client.
"I don't regret it. To tell you the truth, this has given me some publicity," Toumanaintz told The Telegraph.
He will now require written consent from clients before any procedure, he said.

Green & red were the ones the original lasers wouldn't remove. It would reflect off
of the color for some reason. (I spent several painfull sessions learning this). There
are newer lasers that supposedly will explode any color.

If you like your tattoo guy why not let him draw it? Just give some ideas of things you want included, and let him do the rest? Leave the artwork to the artist essentially (unless your wife is an artist ???). Sleeves are full coverage so there's going to be some of that anyway...unavoidable for the fill in spots. Besides...tattoo artists dig that over just tracing someone elses work.
Just an idea.

When I was in there, some kid came in with his own drawings and Billy was helping him out.

You should TOTALLY get cowboy boots! Yeah! The whole boot tattooed like it was on your foot! That would be cool!

^^ Awesome. Black & Grey work is my favorite.
^ aw, thanks guys! It's about the constant search for knowledge and wisdom, in many different forms... it also demonstrates the fluidity/dynamism of knowledges to change and collapse (if the girl pulls a book from the middle of the stack, they'll all fall). The girl, based on the Disney Alice, represents one of the few female characters in traditional Western literature/myth who actually demonstrates curiosity and sets off on her own adventure, instead of being captured/under a spell/sleeping/otherwise prone/incapacitated and waiting for a man to rescue her. :p
Plus, I wanted it to be anatomically interesting and look like vertebrae from afar... which it does. :)
^ hehe perhaps more in line with the original story and whimsy, yes- but the actual drawing was based on a movie cell (still frame), lol. I added the bloomers, though. :p
Nautical Stars done by Billy Hill at Envy Skin Gallery in Columbus Ohio. This guy is good. He has been featured in Tattoo magazine as well as appeared on some reality shows and recently been approached to host a show in Las Vegas, but doesn't want to leave his shop.
Tiff just got this done this afternoon. This is piece one of two. Unfortunately, Billy's Grandfather died today so he couldn't do both of them. Without getting into details, as this piece is politically motivated, look at the United States Seal and see what is on the left side and the right side. You can connect the dots.
note: picture quality on Tiff's ink isn't good. Makes some parts look like shit. Not the case at all.

Ok, here's mine! 12 hrs, 4 sessions, by Tom Berg out of SoCal Tattoo in San Pedro, CA. (If anyone saw Prison Break- the first season- he designed the torso/sleeve tats for the main character)

Going back to get it colored in with a couple shades of red as soon as today's work's all healed up. [thumbsup]
[thumbsup] to you for getting that in that area.
I'm up to 11 tattoos and I have one that size in that same place, just not as involved.
It hurt like a mother. I thought I was going to explode.
I don't know why or how but my brain doesn't release endorphins when I'm hurting. It just hurts. Then hurts more [laugh]
post pics when it's all colored in [thumbsup]

Yeah, all that work on the mane, head, and top leg and paw, everything up on my ribs, were pretty damned painful.
I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I'll definitely post pics when it's done.
I have a tat that goes from my hip bone up part of my side. That bone and the ribcage is PAINFUL!

Thought this would be fun to post here....
Three different shots of my tat and belly as it got bigger. It's interesting to see how the tat creeps below the belly, it never got stretched or distorted!

I'm going in Sunday to get mine!! ;D
Tiff and I both got our dogs paw prints on our left wrist for Valentines Day 2009.
we got out an ink pad and after several attempts, got a nice print from each of their right front paws to take to our artist to draw and ink it on.
Well, with the passing of Alex, his little paw print needs some work done around it.
Might go get that done this weekend.
I stopped by the ink shop earlier tonight.
My guy said I'd healed really quickly and he'd do the color whenever I wanted him to.
This Tuesday at 3. I can't make the beast with two backsing wait. [evil]
Got mine done today, finally.
The color in the pic is a little washed out, it's make the beast with two backsin rawkin in person. I'll try to get a better quality pic tomorrow in better lighting.

I take that as a HUGE compliment.
I absolutely swooned over the pics of yours when you posted them. ;)
Found a few cool photos from some of my old bands bigger shows. Little bit dark but it's a decent shot of the tattoo. Eventually I'll be adding on so it comes over the shoulders more and further down the spine. First started it when I was 16, my Dad has something similar with the OM wrapped around his arm.

I've posted up in TOSAT from the chair and threatened to put up pics... but have been busy. Tonight, I have a couple extra minutes, so here goes:
I have one piece on my L. shoulder. The 'AC' car insignia is for my daughter's initials and I got that one the first time I could celebrate a Fathers Day (12 years ago). I added the checker-board ring a few years later which has come to mean something different to me then when I got it done. In the past 7 years, my Mother and Father have passed away. My Mother's favorite flower was the Iris and my Father was really into birds of prey so I got the Iris and Peregrin Falcon for them. My tattoo artist (Danny Black @ Art Of Life in Chatsworth CA) had the idea of the clouds and sun-rays. I wanted the DNA mixed in. The falcon and DNA aren't finished yet, but... Here it all is:

Awesome! I love the story, also. Tattoos so often have great stories behind them.
Thanks man. In a way, I feel my parents nearer to me since I got the ink. I feel they also help keep an eye out for my daughter hence the orientation of the wings of the falcon.
I have a couple more tattoos and I'm working them into another piece on my R. shoulder. Should be posting back up w/those photos in a few years.
Yeah, my right arm is for my sister (who loved elephants) and my left arm is for my mother. (who loved frogs). I definitely feel closer to them with a daily reminder.
I was going to get something else done recently but I didn't feel like I had a real reason, so I held off. I'd rather they all resonate with me.
I really like the work you have. Look forward to more photos of the rest when you decide to post them up.
Without the backstory (or if there isn't even one), a tattoo is just ink. The story gives it life and breath. [thumbsup]
Finally after years of talk, I got my tattoo started ;D

some of my chest. one of these days i will put up pics of my back, legs and sleeves.
Love the sleeves, guys.
I am working on getting my artwork together and then will submit to my artist so he can draw it up the way he wants to.
That is how this guy works and I love it. You give him a concept and several photos of what you want and then he draws it up.
I am going to start working on a sleeve on my right arm. Already with the "strength and honor" in latin, I am going to stick with a Roman theme. I've always been a big fan of Roman history, therefore, that is what the focal point of my sleeve is going to be.
We are going this weekend to get our Taggart's paw print inked on our arms (like the rest of our dogs) and then a little memorial tattoo next to our fallen buddy Alex. We are going to have Billy draw up a replica of Alex's red fire hydrant he had on his collar. Little buddy had that his entire life, so it is very fitting to get that next to his little paw print.
Got this today. Tribute to my father. I love it! Nikki Balls from Tattoo Paradise in DC did the work. 3 hours and my back is sore!

looks awesome!
I am not much of a peddler on this forum for people, businesses, etc.
However, Envy Skin Gallery in Columbus Ohio owned by the world renowned artist Billy Hill kicks ass.
We just got home (an hour ago) from his fourth anniversary party.
You could buy raffle tickets for 5$ a piece and all proceeds go to a local charity hit works with.
We bought 60$ worth and ended up getting drawn 3 times.........so we got 300$ in tattoo coupons with him [thumbsup]
Billy has inked with the guys of Miami Ink, whatever the shop is in the Palms in Vegas, offered a job to have his own reality tattoo show, and the craziest............a former national player for Australia's Futbol (soccer for americans) flies here two times a year just to get his ink down by Billy.
Billy is a cool guy. Most people think (from my wife's and I personal experience.....so a stereotype) tattoo artists are uneducated crazy people and the customers are the same (Based on the attendees......no stereotype needed). My wife and I are both educated and intelligent and Billy has taking a huge liking to us, which is sweet. Of course we don't get any deals, but he treats us well.
He is about to start designing my sleeve to fit what I have on my inner-biceps (Strength and Honor in Latin). He has never done a complete Roman military and political theme before, so he is so excited to take my concept, photos, ideas, etc and sketch it into a reality. We are taking him out for Sushi on Thursday to discuss.
Anyway, Billy just released a fantastic hard bound book of all the sketches he has done and of course inked it.
We bought the bought the book because my wife's latest ink is included in the book.
The coolest thing is Billy actually applied, registered, and was accepted to have his sketch book stocked in the Library of Congress (I included a photo below so if anyone visits DC and goes to this amazing library, you can look up his book and see his work. All drawn by him).
His book will be available on Amazon.com in a few weeks.
I am posting the pictures of my wifes ink on her lower back.
Based on board rules...........I will not get into the meaning of it because it is against policy. It is hard to understand if you are not a history buff on our countries founding, so PM me if you want to know what it means.
Enjoy.
original drawing based off my wife's concept of what she wanted. Billy has told us several times this was the best idea and his favorite tattooing ever. Who knows if it is true, but he has told us this many times. I email with him daily and he always talks about it.
I had him autograph the drawing as he loves the concept (we share the same "xxxxxx views) and never been approached with an idea like this
(http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu82/jshoward11/P8080022.jpg)
Here is the inking on her back (she is getting the above tattoos touched up by Billy free of charge next time we come in as he wants to submit his work to a magazine. His work has already been on covers of several tattoo magazines).
The next piece of the puzzle on this tattoo is using the lettering off a one dollar USD bill saying "Sic semper tyrannis"
Again, I won't get into that, so PM me if you need clarification as IT IS NOT RELATED TO THE ASSASSINATION of LINCOLN or THE CIVIL WAR.

Got new ink tonight.
On our left arms, we decided to get our dogs paw prints walking up them.
First print is Alex (Rest in Piece little guy), next is our nearly 3yr old Doberman Greta, and the new one is our 7mon old Doberman Taggart.
Alex's print is life size and the following two are shrunk to follow the lines straight up.
Tag's print (the newest) is huge!!! We had our first two done at the shop, but Billy Hill (www.iambillyhill.com (//http://)) did the current one and we weren't happy with his fired previous artist, so he touched them up for us free of charge.
Enjoy.
All these prints are taken straight off an ink pad print of each dogs print and then traced by the artist, so they are authentic real prints. You can tell by Tag's how big his is at 7mons and it had to be shrunk down to fit the appropriate line.
Ink is done in according to age. Therefore, smallest is our little buddy Alex, then Greta, then Tag

The one that said 2 years was published about a year and a half ago.
I can't seem to find anything about a time frame though.

Can't be any worse than the ribs.
That's what I have heard.
the issue with the wrist is how well you heal and the artist that does it.
I wanted some ink by Alex's print and my artist said he would do it but he couldn't guarantee how well it would heal and look.
I guess when when you get close to your wrist, it can run and not heal so well.
When I got my ribs done it was agony for 2 hrs
if I woke up one day and that piece was magically gone there is no way I'd go back to get it redone.
Thanks guys. I got it done by Eric Doyle and Jinx Proof in DC

Not sure what your little popcorn icon means here, but whatever.
I've read the complete series of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by English historian Edward Gibbon.
If you can't read well or have no interest, read the abridged one book version.
Roman History is very intriguing topic to me and I want my sleeve to reflect several aspects of this great empire.
It will encompass architecture, military, and everything in between.
Not sure why you throw a [popcorn] icon at what I want.
Seems pretty dickhead comment to make about someones choice of inking, but whatever.
I am working with one one of the best tattoo artists in the world on this. Billy Hill is a great inker and artist.
He already has published a book (available on Amazon) of his sketches and is about to release a book on how to run a tattoo shop in terms that a commoner can interpret; maybe something you need.
I am giving him several photos, concepts, and visions and he will decision the sleeve for me.
That is how you work with a famous artist. His work has been featured on the front of Tattoo magazine and even approached to do a reality inking show based in Vegas, but turned it down to develop his business here.
Work on arm will be done as money allows it as he is not cheap to get inked by, but has taken an interest in my wife and I as we are not normal customers and have intellectual conversations with him.
It was funny, got our little dobe (not so little really) paw print done last week and I walked in from work concealed with my Kahr (he has no marking on his door about disallowing firearms) and I let him know I was armed and he goes "it's cool, I got more guns in my shop then you have on you and I got a .357 on my ankle, so when you take your dress shirt off, just set your piece under it so others don't get freaked out if they come in"
[laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
We proceeded to talk guns and politics the entire session with my wife and I. It was great.
www.iambillyhill.com (//http://) (//http://) (//http://) is the man.
He has an ex-professional futbol (soccer player) from Australia that flies in 2 times a year just to get inked by him.
You will never find a cooler guy and better artist than Billy.
If anyone is ever at the Library of Congress, I'll throw you his book number so you you can view it and the page my wife's tattoo's are on. They came up with a great concept, but I can't talk about it on here since it is political.
We bought his book and have him writing us a personal note on the front page and he autographed her sketch.
Great guy all around. He is up in Akron right now for a convention and will probably take First through Third trophies for sleeves.
His inking guns (or whatever you call them) are custom. He has number 3 of 36 on his main tool and he has a prototype that is 1 of 3 which the maker wants back, but he won't give it back because it was a gift.
Billy Hill rocks.
If anyone is in the area and wants ink...........PM me and I will hook you up with a discount. Just don't pick "flash art" he make the beast with two backsing hates that. He is an artist and loves several photos/drawings to turn into a reality.

But Judd's wife's ex-bil went to school with a guy whose cousin was married to a guy who knew a guy who grew up next to a guy who went to school with the son of the guy who made the first one, and he called it a gun, so it is a gun. And he's gonna send Judd the original drawings of the first one, signed of course, and Judd is gonna have professional copies made and sell them on Ebay and all the proceeds are gonna go to a fund to help Dobies with bad ear jobs.

Nice cheap shot with the Dobe comment. I won't fall for that baiting again.
You should be enjoying a nice weeks vacation like I did for "baiting" 2 weeks ago.
2.7 "Baiting" Some people find it fun to push and poke at members while believing they technically are within the guidelines in how it's done. Then when the subject does something in return that violates a guideline, a 'report to moderator' is done. This is childish and such 'baiting' will be cause for a permanent ban. It is at the discretion of the administrators whether someone is being a jerk and baiting.
However, it is at the discrection and they like you more than me, so carry on.

Nah, just trying to get the guy some business.
He carries a .357 on his ankle......I prefer not to catch one of those in my chest.
I just find it fascinating a world famous tattoo artist is based in Columbus, Ohio in a strip mall.
He turns down a reality show on a major network.
His story is interesting. I just wanted to share it.

He's being a little selective on what he's quoting. There's one other paragraph in the guidelines that I think is a little more pertinent to responses he gets from the mods compared to what he sees a favorable treatment to others.
"Repeated violations or serious one-time violations or a pattern of conduct that requires disproportionate amount of moderator time will result in the member's access to the board being terminated. Basically, don't make youself a pain in the butt to deal with."

Makes a difference - Would be no use if I suggest the Memphis tri-state area (MS, TN, AR), etc.

it's permanent. Find someone you like or someone whose art you've seen and like. Travelling isn't a big deal for a tat. If I didn't have someone here I'd fly for someone I liked. You should have someone who works with you for exactly what you want.

X-ray tech at work today..
F-16 on his right forearm and an F-15 on the back side of his forearm. Both were nearly the length of his forearm. Model-grey color..just like the real ones. They looked like photos on his arm. Incredible artwork but the placement was horrible! Plus, he had something else on his forearm..partially under the F-16. I have no clue what it was but it clearly didn't go with the aircraft theme.
I guess if he had one jet on each arm, it would've looked more balanced. The guy didn't look to have any ink on his left arm. To each his own.
Waiting for BP to chime in.."what do YOU know about clear?!" [cheeky]

I personally would be weary of getting inked in a foreign country, but that's just me. I am sure there are plenty of board members that have, I am just very picky of the shop I go to. I know i have a good one, so I stick to that.
He actually works with a few professors at Ohio State that are involved in Japanese and Chinese Studies that ensure what you are getting is authentic and not bullshit. I know this one girl who thought she was getting her name on the back of her neck. Well, turned out to be gibberish [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
I am meeting with my guy later this week to start mapping out and pricing my sleeve on my right arm. He has never done what I want, so he is super excited. I am bringing in my concepts and along with his, he will design me a one of a kind Roman Miitary and Architecture sleeve. Super excited. Thank god he likes me so I will get a price break as his rate is 150$ an hour + more for complexity and color.

got some new ink done yesterday for the charity "to write love on her arms" (http://www.twloha.com/ (http://www.twloha.com/))
I had "love" tattoo'ed amidst some scars that I put there myself a few years ago. I thought it was appropriate to turn a product of my own hate into love. I suffered from self-injury in high school and in my early 20's. It's something that never fully goes away and will always be a temptation for me. The artist is cool enough to be tattoo'ing love on people's arms who give a $25 or more donation to the cause. I wish I had this when I was suffering the most, so I participated. It's nice to have a daily reminder now. :)
Here's the ink:

I posted it on my facebook with this caption:
"for all the kids who have ever felt hopeless and alone. For everyone who's ever felt there is no other way. For the girls and guys afraid to go to school because they are "weird" or "different", to all the people who felt damaging their bodies will make the pain in their hearts go away. For anyone who was ever made to feel like they are sinful, wrong, or going to hell because they are gay... this is for you. You are loved."

Ive been apprenticing at my buddies shop and just got my license last week. I did this on my leg for practice. I plan on filling in everywhere I can reach so I gotta step up my yoga game. It was 2- 6 hour settings. I did my first tattoo on the back of my buddies head and this was my 2nd and 3rd I'm excited to start doing more. But I have to bring in more volunteers before I can do any walkins.

The fingers are a sting like no other! I know that pain. I got a band on my finger with my wedding date in roman numerals.

that's a pretty cool tat idea for the hands.
Got the outline done on my new one this weekend.
Was planning to get the whole thing done in one sitting, but by the time we got the design all finalized, we were running short on time. So look for a pic of the shading and color done in a couple of weeks.
It's my family crest...

I want to get my family crest on my chest...but I have to translate the family motto from english to Scottish gaelic.
Because, quite frankly, "Touch not this cat" sounds WAY cooler in Scottish Gaelic. [laugh]
Works for me if the cat is wearing a beret & sunglasses, snapping his fingers, smoking Gauloises & calling everyone "Daddy-o"

Or the more simplistic:

Yeah, that's pretty intense.
When I got the lion done on my side, I was contemplating getting Carolina's mascot done on the opposite side in a mirror image stance.
Maybe sometime in the distant future, but for now I'm good. [laugh]
Those waves look awesome. [thumbsup]

Touchy injecting ink into the whites. Nobody knows the long term effects (I don't believe that's permanent )
Gotta be numb.. I can't see how you wouldn't blink or be in a lot of pain...
yup...dat be our future.
Corneal tattooing is a perfectly safe procedure when done by a pro using the correct, non metallic, organic pigments [thumbsup]. Kudos to this guy for doing what he wishes to his own body.
