Title: Go Pro Camera
Post by: He Man on September 06, 2009, 02:07:31 PM
WHos got one?

Does anyone notice the amazingly shitty battery life this thing has? I got about 30mins of video and 30 pictures before it took a crap on me with BRAND new rechargeable batteries.

I think there are a couple of threads on this in Gear.
Try the "search" function, it's [bacon]

The guys at gopro told us to use lithium's, the alkaline and especially rechargeables would discharge quickly & record at a slower speed.  Mine still doesn't want to record for more than 45min, but the speed is a bit more accurate. Before I could be taking a corner with my knee bolted to the ground and it looked like i was goin' for a cruise.

they say nimh last 2 hours and lithiums, 3 hours. but in reality, i think its the vibration that causes the nimh to prematurely drain. the only problem is, lithiums are really expensive.  5.99 for 2 batts? eh. I dont know why they didnt make a rechargeable pack. I wonder how the Contour HD holds up to vibration.

i recorded that on nimh. it died after another 20 mins later. that was the first video of the day too.

The quality is not as bad as I expected to be. Colors and contrast are fine. How much would you say youtube distorts it? Is original cleaner?

This is a sweet rig:

Why would you need more then 30min of continues shooting, by the way?

Youtube "fuzzes" it up for sure, the originals are incredible quality (with the new batteries).

As far as need more time goes, when you're on a trip 30min isn't much time (not that 2 hrs even is)
but it does start becoming a pain.

I was able to find Energizer Ultimate Lithium's 4.99 for 4.  It's still pricey, but the speed & the lifetime (in a dig. camera) are longer. I do believe the Contour is what Ducducgooseme went to after two failed attempts with Gopro.  Red has his Gopro now and loves it.
Can anyone say user error  [roll]  ;D .

This one I dig because it is the first time I have ridden through a waterfall on a (sort of) paved road.

30mins is such a short amount of time, considering your on the road for 6-7 hours at a time. especially when you have 1 camera and several bikes that want to share it with.

When i compare Youtube videos to my orignal files, they are about 25% blurrier on youtube.

Im not sure what im going to do with the gopro, but its not something im interested in keeping. I think the Vholdr ContourHD is the way to go.  Especially since they have their own battery packs that are designed to withhold motorcycle use.

Battery life leaves a lot to be desired.  Rechargeable ones I used last time did not even last 15 min.

I was looking at a GOPRO on a website today but I think I'll forget it now that I read your experiences.

Best part about gopro, was the fact that you call, explain your issue, they tell you how to fix it...or the send you a new one & don't ask for the old one back. Like I said, DDGMS first one was a pile, mine ended up working fine after some fine tuning(we got them the same day).

Heres one of those, ya' get what ya' pay for deals.
