Title: Fieldsheer Sport Air Leather Pants
Post by: orangelion03 on September 10, 2009, 07:23:11 AM
Anyone out there using these?  Seems like a nice pair of riding pants at a very good price.

Ha, I was just coming here to post about them.

I received a pair from Mccloseouts on tuesday and have only put about 100 miles on them so far.  If you dont expect top end quality like Rev'it, upper end Dainese, or Alpinestars then you should be very happy with them. The construction quality is solid but not impressive and the leather is slightly better then average. They fit true to size and vent really well. For $150 shipped I would say I'm very satisfied with them. I have no doubt they will hold up to their intended job should any mishaps occur.

My only gripe is that the supposedly CE approved knee armor is a rather chintzy 3/8ths inch thick memory foam material that is identical to what is used in the hip pads. I probably wouldn't have been expecting more but none of the literature I can find shows any indication of the "SP memory foam" being CE approved. So I was a bit surprised when the "removable soft CE approved knee armor" turned out to be the same stuff found in the hip. I plan on getting a different set of pads for the knees just to play it safe.

New Enough also has a pair of non perforated pants in a very similar design for the same price. They do appear to come with more substantial knee armor as well.

Thanks Mdriver!

Appreciate the tip about the knee armor...I too thought the pants come with the Fieldsheer "hard" cups, not pads.  IIRC, you can buy Fieldsheer hard armor separately (I think the knee is the same as the elbow).  The tracker pants are nice, but I want something a little cooler for riding most of the year here in SoCal.

Yes, that is exactly what I was expecting when I got them.

I'm looking around for some "d3o" type armor. If I cant get my hands on that I'm gonna go with the Fieldsheer knee/elbow armor as well.

Not sure this is what you are looking for, but it may be an alternative.

How do the pants fit?  You say true to size...what size do you wear/did you get?  I've read a few reviews that say they ride high so get a larger size to fit better.

Thanks for the link.  The d3o material is soft and flexible when worn or handled but under impact or fast movement it becomes firm.  Downhill ski jumpers have been using it for a few years and it's finally making it's way to the motorcycle market.

There is a thread about it here.

Regarding fit they do sit high, covering the belly button. So take your waist measurement from there for the most accurate fit. The pair I have are a size 36 waist which is the same size i wear in jeans. I have a bit of a belly and thought they might be uncomfortable when in full tuck on the bike, but so far they haven't been. I even ate dinner while wearing them the other night and didn't notice them at all.

Thanks for the input!

I just placed an order for a pair from Motorcyclecloseouts.  $140, and I already had a credit with them.

Cheers!!

Bad news. Last night, my third time wearing these pants, the plastic buckle that the Velcro waist strap goes through snapped in half while I was tucking in my shirt. I looked at the break and the inside of the plastic is extremely porous. Hopefully I just happened to receive a bad one and no one else will have this problem. Just beware the thing may be fragile, cause I wasn't even cinching the strap down when it broke.

Just got mine today.  I wear 38 waist Levis 550s and I ordered a size 40.  Waist/belly feels a tad snug but will likely stretch out a bit.  Legs are slightly baggy in the thighs, but are perfect in length and the knee pads fall in the right place.  All in all I'm happy with them.  Ordered a pair of the Fieldsheer hard elbow/knee armor from Motorcycle Superstore.  I took a look at the buckle and I agree that it is way too flimsy...will look around for a metal replacement.

Anybody have a pair in size 38 they want to part with?

I'm liking mine way too much to part with!  I think I've seen them recently for about $100 though.

I wore mine through our relatively mild winter, wearing a pair of Chillys thermals under the leather...comfortable enough on cold mornings.  Now that it has started to warm up, I really appreciate the perforations.
