Title: 696 - official tail-chop kit!
Post by: Snips on May 24, 2008, 06:26:19 AM
I can't believe I missed this, but I was browsing the 696 accessory catalog today, and finally noticed it features a kit to lose the hotdog tray and give a tail chop (no hack-sawing required on the 696).

The P/N is 96768109B

It includes a replacement underseat/over-wheel plastic panel, aluminium license plate holder, and an LED license plate light.

I then realised that the white 696 shown in various places in the catalog has this fitted, i.e. no hot dog tray.

As I said, I can't believe I didn't notice this before!

I'm ordering one  [thumbsup]

'bout time Ducati clued in... I mean, really, how long did it take them to figure out that every single Monster sold has had a tail chop, & maybe they could make a few bucks instead of a 3rd party  :P

I looked at 696 yesterday and noticed that it will need some special part for a tailchop.
It's one big molded plastic piece that also incorporates the seat lock
Definitely not a simple Dremel job anymore

I don't think its a real tail chop. It still sticks out a little if I recall correctly.

Let us know if it is the same as the photos... that part number looks like it has a bracket for euro plates, not our dinky US plates  :-\

Ah, right, it was the Euro catalog, we have to put up with ridiculously large license plates in the UK - probably knocks 10 mph off top end   >:(

I thought the interesting part was that there was no metal to cut.

Short tail guard in ABS with number plate holder
A more streamlined rear end that sets off the exhausts, swingarm and rear wheel, and enhances the lines of the new Monster. The bike seems even more compact and spirited, a pure "café racer", yet with enough room for the passenger. The new tail guard is made in ABS and comes with aluminium number plate holder and a new LED number plate light.
SKU code #96768109B

That's cool, I'm happy to see all you 696'ers out there have an option in this department!!  [thumbsup]

I always wondered why virtually EVERY sport bike out there comes with an ugly tail that they know is going to be replaced + thrown out anyway....I bet lawyers had something to do with it.... :P

I really shouldn't talk... ;)
