nice ride it seems. can't wait to see it in November at the cycle show.
more like look out FJR. not sure who this lines up against in Ducati-land, but if we are talking "sport-tourer" I doubt it will touch the K1300 line... unless we are talking price.
They are getting closer on styling but there are still very funky elements, like the exhaust and the front-on look. I'd tour on a CBR first...
Its ugly imo.
I saw this same article more or less over on autoblog ("auto"blog... yeah they cover bikes every now and then - go figure [laugh] ), but I do like the new VFR. There are several nice styling elements to it - I particularly like the look of the muffler/semi-swingarm. Inventive and distinctive. Pretty well kicks the whole UJM styling thing right in the head. 'Bout time I say.
That being said, though, I'm still waiting for Brian to sell me his RC51.
[evil] [laugh]
Now THAT is the way to build a motorcycle, although touring two-up is 'prolly... how should I say... problematic!

I agree. Wasn't going to say this since I am fresh off bashing the Duc Streetfighter. But still... give me an '07 VFR in the red, white and blue knock off of the 1986 VFR and I am there. Speaking of that, Al Lamb's Powersport Honda has that bike left over for super cheap!! Maybe I should sell a bike and get one. Just wished Honda hadn't f#@ked them up with the stupid (make that really stupid!!) variable valve crap! Yet another dumbass answer to a question no one asked!! What is wrong with bike engineers? Just leave shit alone and give us a motorcycle that we would actually buy!!! [bang] How hard is that?
it doesn't have the comfort creatures the K1300 has but I'm sure it will run like hell. I like this rendition better than the FJR (tired and old IMO) and the ST which is good for one-up touring. In fact, only BMW has capable two-up tourers in my book. For me the wife has her own bike so this would be my toy.........no damn passenger EVA
Ugly you guys say? look again, they copied the BMW

Yeah I really like the styling of the older VFR's, not this new one. I always thought they were very stylish looking for a sport touring bike. Take away VTEC and they had themselves a hot item. Something about the new look doesn't sit with me, but /shrug.
I'll bet it will be nice in person. we shall see but before that I need some rental space in Fastwins garage [laugh]
if the market wasn't so shitty I'd be looking for 10 acres and/or a 4 car garage and as long as it has a pool the wife would be happy. ;)
Why Ducati on the title? I dont think they have or plan to make any Sport touring bikes in the near future...
this is a competitor to FJR1300/GTR1400

because DNA may be reading and they should get the arse in gear to get us one. :-*

Not with a nicely taken care of low milage 2004 ST4s that I happen to know is for sale from a very reliable source. ...just sayin... [thumbsup]

Why?
They need to get their ass in gear and quit making bikes that can be mistaken for MV's.... And that 600 pound Honda, well....is 600 freaking pounds....
hideous exhaust. otherwise, not bad for a tourer. not my favorite, but its a honda which is one of the jap products i've owned before and was a 'content' owner.

get a unicycle, then you'll be pleased with the weight. :o sport touring isn't 400 lbs nor is it a track bike.
But you were comparing it to a Duc, and Ducati doesn't make a 2010 600lb bike....
I didn't make the comparison YET..........haven't ridden the ST or the new Honda scoot. Simply saying if it's anything like Honda puts out it will be a killer and at a killer price.

Would it sound absurd if I could compare an '04 ST4s to an '010 Honda heavy-assed sudo-touring/sport thing? I'm guessing my Duc would give it good go.
"010 Honda heavy-assed sudo-touring/sport thing?"
no such thing as an 010....................it's simply a 10. too much cool aid for you and YEAH compare away. Ducs are light as hell but bikes like the K1200 and such are in a different category. I love me some Ducs and want one of each but the ST never took off on the sport touring market like most have. Then again Ducati only sells what 30,000 bikes a year?
after riding the multi 1100S, i can't imagine a better touring bike. it was a breeze to ride. add some heated hand grips and a stereo system, and send me back to vegas (with cash please)
I'd love to know what type of heated grips it had.
no no no, it needs some.
duh [bang]
you cant compare the ST with a VFR1200.... ST is closer to VFR800 and i doubt you can do two up for 1000miles on a st4 and not feel cramped afterwards...
ST is more sports while VFR12 is more Touring that sport... Shaft drive too.. so minimal maintance for long trips...
sport touring has many classes does it not?

maintenance is for wussies.
well, lightly, every other ride.
not me, not anymore. hate cleaning it.
It will be interesting to see how Honda deals with the heat from a bigger motor - the VFR800 & ST1300 were horrible for Texas riding - they made the old style FJR seem airconditioned.
Here's my take on sport touring - if you want a long hauler you will need some weight on it for comfort but not HD tonnage - a minimum 200 mile per tank capacity (if you have to any slab riding to get to twisties it is mucho appreciated) - shaft + is low maintenence but (-) on response/feel - I'd rather have a chain. If you are doing 2-up then the 1200cc and up is nice - for one person then 1000 is perfect. The trade-offs start when you try to come up with something that handles like a sport bike (less weight) yet won't wear you out on long hauls. If someone could come up with a litre size chain driven 500-550# wet sport tourer that doesn't look like s*#t without bags, doesn't roast you and that has at least a 10K maintence schedule then I'd be interested. Just my opinion of course.
Dear Jim:
we all know you're an FJR freak so come out and say it.......we're waiting. :o
Didn't need to - you were comparing to BMW & Honda because there is no comparision to an FJR :P - actually for two up the BMW'r is nice but it takes some maintenence $$ and it's heavy - the ST feels heavier than a Gold Wibng off the kickstand - FJR is due for an update in 2011 (2010 Yammie didn't do squat because of the economy plus it's the best selling sport tourer out there).
Actually I think the perfect bike I described is a CBR1000XX Blackbird outfitted for touring - THAT's the direction Honda needs to go or bring back the RC51 in touring form.
[bang] I haven't compared YET I said. Tommy did the same thing.......read man read
anyway, Yammi will disappoint you again. how many years now with a cassette player on that Venture? the worst was the "clutchless" FJR. :-X
They had the MP3 jack for years before Honda or HD - GoldWings only offer a radio standard. Yammy euro and Canada offer the FZ1 in a tour style with FJR bags - might be coming here next year - of course you can always buy the brackets and bags across the border and put them on. 26,000 mile maintenence intervals are nice.
Besides Yamaha is doing away with Yamaha blue and going to RED (Euro version) for all their logos - you should see the new accessory packaging. It's not DUC red but then again it's half the price too. ;D
lets air it a bit. you've been wrong three years in a row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [clap]
One of these years they will kill the Roadie damn it! [bang]
