Title: Hello From SoCal
Post by: LowThudd on October 10, 2009, 09:53:42 PM
I am not an owner but I am looking at a 03 Monster M800 tommorow that I hope to buy. It needs some work. Broken left rearset(found used cheap), bent handle bar(found for $20) and a dented tank with a small leak from a crease in the dent. I am thinking of using JB Weld or an epoxy fuel tank repair for the time being, until I can afford to fix the tank right. Any sugestions and advice would be most appreciated.

Good luck in your pursuit of a monster; as far as this bike goes, it sounds like it was laid over, which comes with it a lot of possibilites. Everything from frame, forks, or rims being bent. I guess if the price is right, then it could be worth it, just be sure to look at more than the obvious things that have broken off.

Welcome to the DMF! :)

Good luck with your decision and purchase.

You might want to check in with your local board, SoCal monsters (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=21.0), and see if someone there can help you take a look at the bike.

Personally, I'd recommend taking your time and looking around.  If you're getting a great deal on the bike then it might be worth the hassle, but if not, there are quite a few Ducs out there for sale.

Thanks for the replies. I took a look at it and it is deffinately in good condition. The tank leaks very slightly, but it should be an easy temporary fix with JB Weld until I can afford to get it fixed right(Any recomendations on Epoxy type tank repair kits). Everything else looks good. There is a dent on one muffler, but it isn't visible when looking at the bike. It has 15k on it and the belts have been changed and valve adjustments have been done. Also, he does have the infamous red key, so one less worry.

Sounds good.

You might want to post up in the Tech (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=541.0) forum about the tank repair, there's a few threads in there about tanks and we have some experts here.

Good luck and keep us updated!

My budget is tight. The 03 I was looking at was $1500. And that+Regs+Ins+parts is absolutely all I can afford. I looked, but nothing around in that price range.

Wow dude that's an insane price...  Someone posted an '04 620 yesterday on craigslist for $2k and looked like all it needed was a full service. Needless to say it disappeared before I even got an email reply.  [bang]

Good luck in your quest!
