Anyone planning on registering their bike? Attending?
Anyone been to the event previously?
I'm thinking about going...
Been previously. Pretty cool event. A few of us will probably be getting together to check it out. Maybe a ride before or after the event as well. I wouldn't bother entering a bike as you drop it off early and leave it late, unless you are already planning on hanging out all day.
We went last year and it was sort of disappointing. It's mostly car dealers bringing in their cars and trying to get you to buy one. There were a handful of nice privately owned cars, but it was hardly worth the price of admission. :-\
For $5 I'll go and bring my kids for free.
My son loves Italian cars. He has very good taste in such things.

Last year we paid something like $15 each and it wasn't worth it - the price drop says something though about the state of things!!!

Exploited? Famous? By the Tucson Ducati club? Exploited how? I don't get it. What does that mean?
Isn't it Jeff?

Oh OK, looks that way, thanks Michael. I had no idea the AzDuc site was functional, last I heard it was taken down without any notice to Dave and Dietrich at the time they were trying to build credibility for the Ducati club.
I was told by Dave and Dietrich they where both stepping down. Jeff Devine was the club Treasurer and has decided to step-up and take over as Club President in an effort to re-start the local club.
Not to go into detail, but the only reason "Possession Studios" HAD to take the site down was a "cease-and-desist notification" from Ducati. The club loss it's DOC certification because the legal paperwork wasn't completed...

Last I remember, after the site went down, and someone tried to access it, the message said something to the effect of "do to lack of interest... blah blah blah... the site is being taken down". I defenitely don't remember a mention of a cease and desist notice. Good luck with you club minus another member.
You are right pennyrobber, it didn't say anything about any "cease and desist" order from Ducati ???
Ducatisti,
It's with deep regret that as of April 7th, 2009 "Possession Studios" is withdrawing it's sponsorship of the Desert Ducatisti club. This decision has not been made lightly. As the only sponsor of the club that pays recurring fee's for the club, the recent events and overall lack of interest in the club makes continued sponsorship seem inappropriate.
As an individual member for over six years, and President of the club of four of those years, I hope the club will turn around and continue on.
Best Regards,
Bill Johnson

This club topic needs its own thread.
Going back to the other thing, I still plan on going to the Concorso show in November. Despite Dave's nay-saying. ;)
From the looks of the photos, it's well worth $5 to take my 4-year-old and walk around for a while. In fact, if the event was too big, I probably wouldn't go. It seems just the right size for two guys with a short attention span.

He learned that it isn't a good idea to show me beautiful fast Italian machines. There was a new Bugatti Veyron there for sale that I fell in love with and want really bad. I put it on my Christmas list. He had to admit it was a little out of his budget :(

Italian?
Bugatti is a German company headquartered in France.

Either way, it's an awesome car.

Hey hey hey! Be nice or you'll reap the wrath of Monster Dave!!!
If you get a chance to watch the BBC show "Top Gear" you'd be very familiar with the Bugatti Veyron as these guy's absolutely drool over it.
They also have some great race advendures across France against a plane, etc....
In a recent episode they mentioned that it was in fact made as a "test" car by VW engineering group at a cost of 5M per car ( I think there are only 6 made) but sell it at 800K (go figure that one).
Bottom line I think we all agree it has to be currently the most "amazing" production car to me made to date. [thumbsup]
Let the debate begin...................
From reading the previous posts, I feel that I need to do the right thing and introduce myself and answer that nagging question.
My name's Jeff Devine. Yes, I am the clubs new president. Yes, the club was down for a while, but we've managed to resurrect what was once gone so I would prefer to leave the past where it is...in the past. The future's much brighter anyway gents. Ok, now that this is out of the way, let's get down to business.
For everyones info, I spoke with the promoter of the Concorso Arizona yesterday afternoon (Tuesday October 20th) and have secured a space for the Desert Ducatisti booth and our bikes, meaning that they've given us the opportunity to display our bikes alongside other Italian finery. Now I don't know who of you are members, no longer wish to be members, or are considering joining, but if you would like to come down and join us at the show, you are more than welcome. Now for the caveat.
Because the promotors have been gracious enough in providing us a "merchants" space at no cost to the club (a $400.00 value), and because the event supports the local chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation, the promotors are requesting that each bike that enters the show register on-line and pay the $30.00 registration fee. The fee gets both you and your bike into the show for the entire day. IF they follow the same format they did last time, your bike (not you) will be judged at the end of the day and small trophy awarded to the winning entrant. They've requested that all participants arrive no later 8:00 AM the morning of the show and leave once the show has concluded which is expected to be at 2:00 PM that afternoon. The club and several of it's members attended the show a couple of years back when it was held at Diablo Stadium which was a fantastic time. And of course the bikes raised a lot of interest as well. We currently have a total of 5 bikes which are scheduled to attend and would like more, so if you're interested in registering your bike and would like to show it off for all to see, start waxing now and let me know who wants to go. I'll have a chase truck following the rest of us to the show carrying a cooler and chairs, so if you would like, we can pack a chair and a couple of drinks for you if you would like to join in on the fun. Thanks guys!
I'm excited for this.
Although, I won't be bringing my Ducati. Instead, I'll be showing up in my minivan. [thumbsup]

I used to think that, too ... before I became a minivan convert.
And when we bought our minivan, our other car was a BMW 7 series. I say that so you give me some credit before disregarding my minivan preference.
Now, before we got a minivan, my wife and I had the SUV versus minivan debate many times over. And ultimately I said to myself, I'll keep my wife happy and get what she wants. And I gotta tell you, I'm glad I did.
Aside from the inability to go off-road like an SUV can, the minivan is awesome. Not just for the millions of mom-friendly features throughout the entire car and how easy it is to get kids in and out, but also for performance.
Also, my wife and kids were in a very serious accident about a year ago where our first minivan was totaled, and they all walked out of there without a scratch. The minivan is an amazing vehicle.
I challenge anyone to go down to a Honda dealership, drive the new 2010 Honda Odyssey, and say they're not impressed.
There's a video floating around somewhere where a guy races a Honda Odyssey with some gilrs in the back vs. a guy driving an old muscle car around and autocross course. The Honda totaly won, better handling, better brakes, etc. The girls looked a little shook up though. :D
Now I have heard it all. Someone used the words performance and amazing when describing a minivan. [laugh] [clap]
Yeah it is amazing that anyone would drive a minivan considering the lackluster performance. [laugh]
Since Michael came clean, I guess it's time for me to own up.
I'm seriously considering one of these

Anyone have any experience with this type of vehicle?
Advice? or just want blowe of steam, feel free......
Minivans are awesome when you have 2 small children, such as I do.
Anyway, DucMS4, if it were me, I'd just buy an old Chevy Blazer and put a good lift kit and new suspension on it. They're easy to work on and you can find parts everywhere. You can even have the seat upholstery and floors replaced for cheap.

When and were is it again?
I went to the one a few years back at Diablo Stadium. The cars were pretty cool. It was nice to get up that close to them.

That was fun. Thanks Sponge for letting us know. [thumbsup]
My son fell asleep in the minivan on the way there, but when we got there and he woke up and realized where we were he was so excited he could hardly contain himself.
His favorites were the older Ferraris, like the Magnum PI era Ferraris. I'm not sure why, though, who knows with 3-year-olds. And then, of course, there was the toy booth. I thought it would be cool to look at them, but he had a real hard time with the fact that he couldn't play with any of them (and they were dang expensive). I should have known better than to have shown him cool toys that he couldn't play with. [roll]
LQQKR, from inside the thing we saw you driving by in the parking lot. I couldn't tell if you were coming or going, though. And we left shortly after that.
Anyway, seeing the Ferraris was fun. There were only 3 Lamborginis, and none with the doors open. :-\
I think we got there just as the owners had left for lunch. In fact, when we were driving there we saw (coming the other way) a Bugatti Veyron being followed by a Lamborghini. I assumed they were coming from the show, or ... I guess that could also be just the normal traffic for that part of town.
Too bad there weren't more Ducatis there. I would have entered mine, but I don't own a stand, and I worry too much about people dropping my bike because of my stupid suicide kick stand. Man I need to get that replaced.

ok, at 254mph and an empty tank, if you coasted to the gas pumps how fast would you be going when the tires did explode?
