This weekend is going to rock. Ben needs the double and Haga has Fabrizio to lend a helping hand. As much as I believe in Ben, I think Haga finally eeks out a much deserved championship. Either way, I can't wait for this weekend's racing!!! Unfortunately then we have to deal with the sadness of no racing until next year. >:(
yes....it will be an exciting end to a great racing season and a sad beginning to a long winter of withdrawal...

Maybe Sykes can torpedo Haga to offset Fabrizio's 'favor'. [laugh]
it's not like tom needs to worry about keeping his ride ;D

That's Rea's job.

My money is on Fabrizio taking out Haga under the Repsol teamwork philosophy.

that excuse only works when you still have a mathematical chance at the championship.

Last time I checked a 10 point lead with two races to go constitutes a mathematical chance. unless you're a Spies fan ;D

fabrizio's 346 vs haga's 436 with only 50pts left on the table.
fabrizio is very much mathematically out of the championship.

If Spies and Haga take each other out in Race 1
and neither grids up for Race 2
and Fabrizio wins both races
and he gets double word score for being a douchebag, then he wins the championship.

That cracks me up! Good one. [laugh] Too bad the reality of that statement isn't as funny. [bang] If Rossi hadn't tossed it in that last race Nicky would have never won that championship and we'd all hate Pedro-bot even more... if that's possible. [laugh]
Still, it's going to be a killer race weekend in Portugal! It's going to drive me nuts as I will be driving back into town when it's broadcast and will have to watch it all later on Sunday evening. For once I won't look at the results on the internet first, it'll be a surprise. I'll be happy for either rider who wins it. I can't loose! [clap]

I think the single biggest thing I like about Spies is the fact that he and Nori actually have fun racing against each other. And the kid honestly would be happy if Nitro Nori ended up with the championship.
While it would be nice to see Ben pull it off in his only year in WSBK competition, I think Nori deserves it more from shear consistency. Well that and I have a sick twisted love affair with remembering Nori on the R7...

a green hornet casting call?
Ben better quit f-ing around and get his head in the game. They can spoon all they want on monday but he's got a championship to win.
As a spectator, nothing would be better than Race 1 being between Ben and Nori, with Ben finishing first and Nori second. Cuz then it ALL comes down to Race 2.

Here's where douchebrizio gets to try to be a good teammate. Use those awesome Ducati starts to get into T1 first and slow the whole race down for two laps. That's all Haga needs to get through.
Haga's got some work to do. Byrne and Rea and Biaggi (among others) are hard to pass, even if you're goin' a bunch faster. Haga could snatch a coupla spots off the line, but at least two of those guys are gonna be ahead of him for part of lap 1.

exactly... ben
has to do the double. there are other permutations where he can still gain the 10pts on haga, but the only way he can guarantee is is by winning both races.

If it was anyone other than Haga (including Spies), I'd agree. But Haga moves through the field in the first coupla laps like everyone is standing still. Add to that his great starts, and 10th isn't as bad as it sounds. He's amazing.

booo.
Great for Ben! [thumbsup]
Bummer for Haga though. :'( He rode like a madman that last race, but he essentially gave the championship to Spies by crashing in Race 1. If Haga would have been just a tad more consistent this year.
6 points separating 1st and 2nd though...what a season!! [bow_down]
[clap] [clap] [clap]
Great season, from the point in R1 that Max pushed Ben wide in the 2nd turn at Philip Island to no Ducati team orders at Imola, both of them fought back several times to have a chance in the end.

How did Haga crash?

Lost the front end, nothing dramatic.
Just finished watching the dvr'd races.
Great race, excellent win for Ben.......BUT
"thanks yamaha for giving me the "SHIT" I need" ?!?!?
Damn ben, did you really have to just throw some cussing out there on national TV? Way to rep the 'mericans! We already look like blumbering idiots to the world....

"...i love winning bets on tv."
i wonder who that bet was with...
(
totally sounds like something colin would say ;D)
I was dying to look at the results yesterday morning but didn't want to spoil the race. Watched race one. I was psyched that Ben won but bummed that Haga fell off. When Ben started going backwards in race two I had to run in during a commercial and check the WSBK site. I couldn't take the suspense! Great season. Can't wait to see Ben run the last MotoGP race and next season.

ha! i was watching it live and didn't have that option.
the best i could do was look at live timing and scoring and do the math. he was keeping a pretty consistent ~4s gap to camier in 7th and haga wasn't close enough to take first. i did get (more) nervous when he started dicing w/ biaggi, though.

How did Haga crash?
It looked like he got all out-of-sorts on braking, but then bike settled down before turn entry. He crashed after it had settled. I think what happened was that he didn't slow it down enough on braking and then was off-line a bit. He tried to hold his normal line and then just tucked the front.
14 wins (50% of the races)
11 poles (79% of the poles)
rookie WSBK year
new tracks
new bike
buncha mechanicals
---> Faaaaaaaaaaack, mang. Impressive. Just f'n impressive. [thumbsup]

You forgot one - 12th in all time wins after only 1 season...

didn't get to watch either race 'til about 10pm last night... although the wife had already watched race 1. ha! unexpected.
i was too nervous to do anything but a quick calculation: entering race 2 i thought he had to finish no worse than 5th if haga won; it was really 6th. shoulda thought harder about it.. race 2 would have been a lot less stressful. =)
i know that after racing mladin for several years this was really not the pressure cooker for him that it would seem.. but most of the world can't wrap their head around that fact. still, it's a major understatement to say that what he did this year was unprecedented. effin' amazing.
who can't wait for Valencia!? [clap] [popcorn]

Certainly gives me a new appreciation of Mladin's skill, the guy is super fast. Not sure how he'd go learning new bikes & tracks though.
Congratulations to Spies, he really is incredible.

The Biaggi dicing was rediculous. I think the comment was made, "lets hope Biaggi doesn't end Ben's season like he started it." [roll]
Biaggi over shot that same turn at least 5 times during the 2nd race among a few others. I guess he was on the ragged edge. Very different race then race 1.
max does that a lot. even on the 'zuk. but i also think they are having a hard time getting that stupid-fast rsv to turn.

don't expect a performance like Bayliss did after winning the title in '06 on the 990 GP6.
