Title: Suggestions for a meet
Post by: Pakhan on November 25, 2009, 06:34:09 AM
I say second Monday of every month at Matchless bar in Brooklyn.  I'm thinking a SU.com & NYMMC thing.  It's bike friendly and there will always be a bunch of other bikes there that night anyway.  Start next year in the Spring?

Any thoughts, suggestions?  Put a sock in Pakhan?  [laugh]

The reason I suggest Matchless is because it's MC friendly on Mondays, has ample parking, it typically has an MC crowd present that night.  All of these things make it a good venue.  It also means if only a few show up it won't be 3 guys standing in a parking lot discouraged about the turnout.  Or at least not as discouraged because there is already a strong MC presence.

Thursday at Matchless is not really MC night.  I realize we can start our own, but I think starting our own would work better with more people and interest.  Something achieved over time.

I do love Hiram's but again the presence is lacking.

The first thought that comes to mind is mohel training but somehow I don't think that's it.  Please enlighten me.

You got something to say He Man?

I only hang out here b/c those of us from Jersey got overlooked when they created the local board list.  The only conclusion I can fathom is the Mods think everyone from Jersey lives near NYC or philly or wants to ride in upstate.

I just might take my ball and go home....nah, you guys would miss me too much.

I'd suggest sticking to one of the already known bike nights for reasons already mentioned. We used to occasionally have people come to the Astoria beer garden. Unfortunately, if you're riding you can't/shouldn't take part in any of the beer but they have meat!

All except the ear that is, that place sucks balls. No, not in a good way.

Hey, wait a minute....I got nuttin'.

He Man, I will send out a mass email asking all NJ NOT to back into your bike anymore.  The first email must have been confusing to some, resulting in your bike getting puked on by kitchen waste and backed into.  Sorry.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!! [beer]

How about here as a NYMMC kick-off event?

My vote would be Friday night after work so it's not super crowded.

And what downward slide would that be?  It seemed the same to me the past 2 years......plenty of bikes to check out, sit on, dealers to talk to..........Lots's of vendors to selling aftermarket parts i couldn't get locally.  I enjoyed it of course i do wish Ural was back last year they missed it  :'(

I go every year as well, but I think I know what ES is talking about.  I heard some manufacturers won't show because of the cost of being at the Javits.  IIRC last year some manufactures were in other cities but not the NYC show due to cost.

Maybe last year was better, I didn't go. The year before it was all stretched busas and road warrior leathers. Not really my bag. But you know, whatever floats your goat.

Ahh ok now i understand yeah that part of the show i hated too.  But seriously what else would be in the place of stretched Busa's?  It is the scene for a lot of people.  Unfortunately our type of rider is the minority so seeing a big display of quality leathers and maybe modded up streetfighters or cafe racers might be hard to come by.  I don't go for the mods though i like seeing the latest and greatest bikes from the companies and seeing if there is an aftermarket part or two i can pick up.

It's just fun  ;D

I enjoy it more if I'm actually looking to buy a bike or something in particular but otherwise I just can't justify fighting the crowds. The couple of years I worked on vendor booths were fun but otherwise I just don't get much out of it.

Hope you guys have fun.

Anyway, back OT here maybe? :)

Howie, do you need any help with the motorcyclists rights group you're setting up? I'm not interested in the show but if I can help somehow, let me know.

Thanks.  I can't take credit for setting a group up, I'm just one small small part.  Others, including Michelle deserve much more credit.  Also, the group exists!  Keep an eye on NYMMC for news.
