Title: Hello from Vancouver :-)
Post by: shortyonamonster on November 25, 2009, 10:51:19 PM
[moto] Just introducing myself :-) Hi! [beer]

I live in beautiful (rainy) Vancouver and pass the winter shopping for motorcycle outfits and new bikes! (typical woman, right?)

I've been riding for about 8,000 km. Learned to ride on a cbr125R, (I thought it was the only bike I could tippy-toe around stock!) Now I'm trading it in for a "real bike." Ducati monster 696.  Beautiful. A hell of a lot more power than my previous ride. Best of all: a low seat height and handlebars I can reach! Can't wait! But.... I'm worried about air cooling... Can any of you experts PLEASE tell me if I'm going to be stuck in leathers all summer??? Are there any mods that can prevent my thigh from being scorched in stop-and-go down-town traffic??? HELP! Your opinions are valued as I'll be trading in my little toy this weekend! PS I also have an ancient RM100- two stoke! (Sorry ozone layer!). That's all you want to know right?

Cheers!  [wine]

Welcome, happy to see another canuk riding around on a duc.  As for being toasty you shouldn't have to worry too much I drive my S2R here in South Ontario and haven't had any issues with it at all.  Come the 'rain season' in Vancouver you might even want some of that excess heat to keep your hands warm.  Get a good rain suit it makes driving in the wet so much easier, and most of them are wind proof so they add a layer of warmth in the cool months to extend the riding season.

Good luck and have fun.

Welcome and congrats on the 696! [beer]

I see you already found the women's forum. [thumbsup]

I've been riding around my air-cooled bike in the SF bay area with no issues, I'm sure you'll be fine in Vancouver.

Looking forward to your updates and seeing pictures of your bikes. ;D

Welcome to the forum fellow Vancouverite! I have an S2R1000 (air cooled) that I commute with and have had no issues with the bike overheating. Yes, you'll be hot in the summer in leathers in stop-and-go traffic especially if next summer is as hot as this last one. If you're lucky enough to have a flexible schedule, try riding downtown in off-peak times to avoid the traffic. Other than that you'll find that regardless of how hot it is, as long as you're moving, you won't be too hot. Where in the lower mainland are you located?
