Title: Progression of your Monster
Post by: psycledelic on December 09, 2009, 10:28:16 PM
Well, I am bored at work and was weeding through my tinypics account and got to looking at pictures of my bike at different stages.  Kind of cool to look back at it I guess.

No pics of when I bought it.  But It pretty much looked like all of the other Black&Tang 800s

About 3 months in
(http://i27.tinypic.com/34pcox0.jpg)
Shortly after joining the old board I decided to go at it with my dremel tool and spray paint
(http://i25.tinypic.com/i53w4l.jpg)
Discovered that monsterparts.com sold carbon fiber (Looking back, not sure what I was thinking with the gold grips)
Pretty much how it is now
(http://i28.tinypic.com/2d29n5l.jpg)

Nothing special.  As I said earlier, just killing time at work (most productive 20 minutes I have had all night).

Thx for the compliment.
Clone all you want, just please don't pass the crazy voodoo magic curse from your current bike to mine.  Your recent string of luck is unbelievable.

Those are the same DP/Termi headers that came with my original Termignonis.  I always liked the way they seem to "flatten out" the bottom of the bike from a profile view.  When I decided to drop the Termi cans, I sent the headers to Mark @ MotoCreations.  He made the extensions, added the spring attachments, and then coated the entire system flat black.  He has serious skill.  The extensions fit together perfectly.  Amazed me since I shipped my headers from NC to the west coast and he never actually matted them to my bike.  I know he has to use some sort of jig for the 800's, but damn, they go together like freakin puzzle pcs.  There pretty loud, but thats what I asked for.

Nice bike !
Here is my contribution :
My bike when I just bought it.

And this is it begin last summer.

Nothing extreme. Clear indicator lenses, black headlampring, Rizoma mirrors, Termi's and a shortened "beertray" .
Just the most common mods but they really make a big difference.
And I'm not done jet... (will one ever be ?)

I still have a couple of things left to do, most notably shorten the hose to the Ohlins remote reservoir and relocate it under the seat where the charcoal canister was.  While the shock is back at Ohlins, I'm having them re-do the SBK forks as well.

Before: Ducati 900CR is the 3rd one down the line. Yes -- I had two CBR900RR's. No -- my neighbors in the condo complex didn't like me.

After: someone wrecked the Ducati on a purchase "test ride" and it then become bitsa that sat for four years in a box before the engine was used in the below.  And my DesmoDevil (aka "Monster Chopper" for awhile) was the 1st bike with BoomTubes on it!  It's hard to imagine at times this was almost five years ago already...

Problem I had was with vibration.  At night, my headlight bounce was bad enough to trigger a seizure to oncoming traffic.  Once I made braces for it, all was well.

i dont have a before picture, sadly, but here is my monster that was a 2001 600 dark with yellow wheels (ewwww), morphed to a 900. lots of custom work done, including front brake and master upgrade, swingarm, motor obviously, bodywork and paint, reworked suspension internals, ohlins dampner not pictured, and tons of little things. sadly, its now replaced by a 749 im my garage, but someday i will have another monster, when my garage morphs into a bigger one.  ;D

Changed the mirrors (again), and lowered the gauges/headlight.

Bought it new...

...did some mods and rode it around for a while:

Eventually I decided I was going to "adjust the valves and fix a few things."  One thing lead to another and I ended up taking the whole bike apart.

Dude, my bike wants to be your bike.

Actually, I want to be your bike.

You've done pretty much exactly the mods I've got lined up.  Like the look of the BoomTubes a lot.  And the rest is just stark and simple.  Very nice.

Why you selling?

Yeah I dig it. I love "built" motorcycles. Maybe come up with some type of housing for that dash, but I guess your fairing takes care of that? And if you do that 900 swap keep an eye out for a good deal on a 5.5" wheel...very easy bolt on mod and really looks the business.

Check again, added view from rear, remember I needed to get the tires of my 3 spoke wheels that's why no rotors installed and will take the opportunity to replace chain/sprockets

Actually I removed the U-Bracket to lower my gauges and just have it mounted with the OEM side mounting brackets a longer bolt than what shipped with it and black spacers that the bolts go through on each side.

They were DnD pipes. OK to get me home but they fell apart soon after that and the sound was  HORRIBLE....

Damn fine outcome Novelo. How's the "true dual" exhaust working out? I read Duc engines like a crossover better.

if you look closely you will see that the pipes merge just before the cans.

[thumbsup] Well worth the money for the Arrows, I wasn't sold as I wanted something unique but IMO you can't beat the fit, finish, and hassle free install. I have a set of GPR Deep Tones in addition to the Boom Tubes but the fit for both was not up to par. The GPR was really spaced out compared to the Arrows and my expectations, the Boom Tubes were sent back because the O2 bung was welded on crooked. I also had to cut the horizontal cylinder pipe to get them to mount them correctly. I waited the longest for the Boom Tubes 3-5 months and a month for the GPR's, and four days for the Arrows. I should have just went Arrow from the beginning  [bang].

The GPR looked like this, eventually I'll get around to making some decent mid pipes for these and cut down the bottom can but for now they sit on the shelf.
