Okay all yee Sydney people.
If we are going to do this each 2nd Month for 2010 plus whatever else gets thrown in between.
First ride would be 6th-7th Feb.
As I have my brother's wedding on the 6th and Marty asked if we can do a Sunday.
Will the 7th Feb work for people.
I'd be thinking we might head West to re-do the previous freezing ride some people had last year.
Meeting at Macca's Richmond, head up Kurrajong across Mt Vic to Jenolan Caves.
i live just down the road from Richmond Macca's you are all welcome to stop at my place... tea, coffee, cold drinks...
At this point in time im free most days...
NOTE: Coffee NOT available to Jukie
well then Betty, Andy55 and Jukie wont be going

Sounds good Matty ,
maybe we can dedicate the ride to
Big T leaving the building,
went up to see him last night OMG I can feel his pain :'( giving the Ti Monster away at that price , whoever buys that will be blessed what a machine.
We sure can make it a dedication ride.
Big T this one's for you. [thumbsup]
Wow, is it going to take until February for you Sydney lot to get together for a ride? What's taking you so long?
;D Us Melbourne mob have already had one ride this year. ;D
OK, yes, it did take us 3 or 4 months to arrange ... [roll]
Hope you all enjoy scraping a peg for Big T. [thumbsup]
Cheers.
Yeah we're like a fine wine, time to age and get together [cheeky]

Can do the following weekend (13th or 14th Feb...) [moto]
I'd say consider it moved then. [thumbsup]

Would have preferred the weekend prior myself (30/31 Jan), but anyway ... have fun peoples.
Contraversy already.
So do we go the weekend before which is the last weekend of the month.
7th Feb Big T can't make
13th-14th Heart Day [roll] (thanks for pointing that out Craigo) but I guess it matters
30th-31st Jan is up for the offering
I wasn't meaning to stir the pot, just that we are unavailable for the first three weekends of Feb.
You have managed without us in the past [cheeky] ;D

Not wanting to be controversial in any way, I will do all three!!!! [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
But for those who can't do the designated day, but can do before or after, let me know. Any excuse for a ride.
All dates are good for me at this time .
But the weather could be a tad hot for a ride out west for us senior dudes. ;D
How about a a bit more coastal may be K,V or old road /wisey's and do Oberon in march /april a bit milder then, plus we will have Betty and Jukie,Andy back.
Unless they turn feral in Tazzy. ;D
Cool direction can be wherever we want to go.
If Coastal is preferred then let's do that.
So the list might be
Rob S
Signora
Big T
Craigo ?
Matty
Dez
Monstar_100
Goldfish
Betty (depending on weekend)
Jukie (depending on weekend)

Thanks for that. Maybe this will be the subtle hint he needs to get himself a Monster. Mind you, the thought was there the whole time. He has kindly told me that if I ever decide to give up riding, he gets first dibs on the Monster.

There's a nice S4R up for sale, quite local ... only ridden by a little old man on Sundays (and the occasional Sat Ozmo run) ... never seen the rain ;D

Firstly, Rob, there is nothing wrong with being a hooligan, bling addicted DOM. It just makes you more interesting. I am sure that Jukie would agree that the naughty ones are always more appealing.
Secondly, I have forced my Nick to frequent the DMF Trading Post and brought a particular S4R to his attention. We can work on him. I am sure when we all get together in a symphony of bling and exhaust music, he will lose all composure and buy one of his own. He is only human afterall [roll].

i will be keen for a ride if we can decide on a date
Yeah the dates are a little all over the place.
I might not have a bike for 30th/31st Jan
And maybe not even until the first week of Feb.
So 7th is fine for me or the weekend after.
I will try to make any date you set, but, still waiting for 'bumblebee' to come home, insurance company rang me a couple of days ago and said that they are waiting for a couple of parts to arrive - end of thread jack - so post up when a date is set.

yes, as per Nick's post, you guys can have a ride, plus Vince can bring all the picnic gear ! [coffee] [drink] [beer] [wine] [popcorn] [bacon] [thumbsup]
Yeah a picnic in Kangaroo Valley down by the river how very romantic.

At this rate, I might have to bring the fourby and the fridge instead of the Monster. Need the fridge to keep the Chinotto cold! [drink]
The Sherpa can carry anything and everything. Chinotto too. [thumbsup]

Quik question gang! what time do you think the pack will be back by, ruffly?? before 6pmish?
yup i'd say b4 6
Hay Matty
not familiar with the destination's layout.
Is this a BYO tea sandwiches and scones in the back pack
or is there a cafe for refreshments and [coffee]
Somewhere for a swim so I can pack the budgie smuglers and chamois towel ?
Dez, usually eat at the pub in Kangaroo Valley, but there's other options as well - bakery / pie shop etc...
And I'm sure we can at least find a puddle somewhere to warrant packing said budgie smugglers. :o
Your options would be at the coast, not at KV I would think - Kiama / Geringong, or one of the beaches within the RNP.
So I thought I would post up some more details for those not familar with the Illawarra loop:
Typical running sheet for a day with lots of people:
8.00am: Meet at Shell Kirrawee - Cnr of the Boulevard and Princess Hwy, Kirrawee. Fuel up.
8.30am: Depart, via the Royal National Park.
Stop briefly at Bald Hill (Stanwell Tops) to regroup, collect any others meeting here
Fuel Stop at Albion Park Rail (for the S4Rs) and regroup - there's no easy fuel at KV from memory.
MQ Pass, past the Pie Shop, through Robertson and onto Pearsons Lane to Kangaroo Valley
12.00pm: Lunch @ Kangaroo Valley
1.30pm: Continue South via Camberrawarra Mountain.
At then end, back up to Albion Park via "Kiama International Speedway"
Fuel up and then back north via Mt Keira and the RNP again.
4.30pm Back into Sutherland, to go our own ways..

Hmn glad I seem to be able to function without sleep just so long as I have [coffee] [laugh]
Heather, it is a matter of balance.
At least this way you get good company on the Saturday night but still get to ride with the riff-raff on Sunday [evil]
Thought you weren't coming on this ride Betty [roll] :-*
Nah that would require me to step up to riff-raff status ... unfortunatley I am a long way short of reaching those heights.

Suzy, it's a group ride, it's inherently slow!
Saying that, some may choose to go fast, just means they get to wait for the others at each turn off / stop point.
Exactly as Goldfish said Suzyj.
A group ride is usually a slower pace overall. And from what I am told lately we Oz Monster folk
are very very tame compared to most group rides. There is no wheelie or stoppie action from us lot.
We are (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IwFwq6E0k8Q/RpQ-R8wr4FI/AAAAAAAAACc/BJZMrTcAZXc/s320/Angel%2Bsmiley.bmp) really.
Don't forget me ;D
And Dez ;D
Just to confirm the meet time Kirawee 8.00am ish.
Us age challenged northerners will need a pit stop half way.

Hey Rob,
We aren't coming down the botton of Ousley, the route takes us off at Piton Road
heading down Mount Keira. So you can head up Ousley and take the Piton Road and pick us up
there. Or you can head to Bald Hill and pick us up at 9a, and a bit.
Up to you. [thumbsup]
Hay Matty
weather prediction is for chance of showers [puke]
what say all for this ride?

looking forward to meeting new and old faces
plus the symphony of sound from such a large group.
How about a review the night before?
Is Jukie coming?
hope so.

So is this the final list?
Im still in, quick Q though. Kirrawe petrol station, what/where is it exactly? (tried looking, but this is a BIG thread) ;D
Chris, it's the Miranda turn off , cnr the boulevard and the highway - just follow the highway down and it's the shell on the left going south. From memory it's the second servo on the left after crossing tom uglys bridge.
Yep just head down the Princes Highway over Tom Ugly's Bridge round the sweaper.
Head up the hill past Macca's, the Caltex Woolworths servo then it's just a few hundred metres up on the left
at the next set of lights.
If you want to count the lights it's the 5th set of lights from the bridge. [thumbsup]
Where is the Princess Highway and what bridge Matty ??? ;D
not near pennant hills [cheeky] hope you've got your visa packed ;D
From the Hills this is the easiest way to go.
If you don't have e-tags for the bike you can head down Beecroft Road to Blaxland Road then down past
Homebush and follow along down King Georges Road till you meet Princes Highway and up to Kirrawee.
or use this Map here (http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Pennant+Hills+Rd,+Pennant+Hills+NSW+2120&daddr=The+Boulevarde&geocode=Fe0s_f0dchsBCSnTS9D5uqYSazFRQXX-_5LH4g%3BFWLK-P0dLGABCQ&hl=en&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=14&sll=-34.041636,151.086559&sspn=0.037624,0.077162&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.882387,151.169815&spn=0.301553,0.617294&z=11)

I'm glad you got home and didn't have any problems but I'm/we're just a bit confused as to why it took so long for you to call us to say where you were and that you were okay.
We did spend quite sometime waiting_wondering_calling to see if we could find you guys. It would have saved the rest of us
waiting on the road and hoping that you were both on the bike somewhere.
But maybe that's just me ???

I'm glad you got home and didn't have any problems but I'm/we're just a bit confused as to why it took so long for you to call us to say where you were and that you were okay.
We did spend quite sometime waiting_wondering_calling to see if we could find you guys. It would have saved the rest of us
waiting on the road and hoping that you were both on the bike somewhere.
But maybe that's just me ???
Nope mate its not just you, its all of us and it means you care [thumbsup] [thumbsup] so Thank you!
; as Jukie wrote, we thought we were behind. When we didn't see any one at P/Nest we thought you were all back in Sydney. Hope we didn't cause too much stress; trying to answer the phone on a packed h/way wasn't exactly going to be easy either.
Thanks to every one for a great ride day!

Sorry about all the confusion, we just honestly thought we were behind you guys and that will would catch up on the freeway somewhere

Thanks to every one for a great ride day!
Being one of the people waiting and wondering what to do from there, I can say that it was out of care and concern. It's not that we doubted you guys, but here's me recounting my train of thought:
- Jules was obviously very tired throughout the day, due to a severe lack of sleep
- her phone and stuff was in the backpack that Mark was wearing = no means to contact her
- Sydmonster's phone was ringing and not answering (so it was not like you weren't in mobile coverage)
- no-one had a call / txt saying you guys were OK
- we were waiting there for quite a while, multiple calls were made, no answer..
I don't know about you others there, but my mind started to wonder if something had gone wrong, and the longer it was the more worried I got.
So here's the lessons learned for me:
- everyone on the ride should have at least two other riders' numbers with them - we used to do this religiously, but it was plainly obvious that this was not the case this time.
- group rides need better organisation - groups of that size need leaders / people waiting at corners / someone to hang at the back. We had this by default for most of the ride, but it needs to be better formalised.
- if you get detached from the group, then stop and phone / txt others on the ride. Better to take 5 mins to stop and txt than radio silence..
The good things
- we tried to let people know about known warning items on differing sections - the moss in the RNP, the scout camp right hander in Mt Keira etc
- it was an awesome day - good group with lots of new faces, great weather, good conditions (except for the wind)
- we all came out of it in 1 piece (with the exception of Pauls points and wallet)
We'll need to be better organised next time, with perhaps some better planning and better organisaiton on the day. I think we need to be able to split into 2-3 groups of pace, and we should encourage everyone to have a safety check prior to leaving and a reminder / discussion about traveling in larger groups...
Glad that everyone returned home safely [thumbsup]
That's why I snapped it.
Had to get Signora beside one of you guys!
I'd say the atmospheric difference would be 3-5.C [cheeky] [cheeky]

Umm, just a little.
Honestly I think we had it pretty much right ... we all kinda know the drill. There was almost always somebody waiting at a change of direction and always someone (me) at the back. There seems to have just been one corner where there was a temporary hiccup and the default is to continue straight ahead until someone indicates to turn.
But maybe after an hour or so a phone call would have been good [cheeky]
Yeah but all ended well, we didn't mind waiting due to our concern but communication could have saved a lot of time.
Alls good and ends well.
Glad that there was no more Crash Test Jukie's......
I agree that we got it mostly right, it's just the "mostly" bit I want to change to "always"
Seriously, I noticed that Chris's hiviz was absent during 2nd regroup after lunch, but didn't put it all together, I was up front leading and "just figured" that others had it covered. I guess its better not to assume next time.
Thanks everyone for a great day.
Wonderful to meet so many more OzMos in the flesh [roll]
Hope to catch up with you again on the return trip (see Bar Italia thread).
[moto] [thumbsup] [beer] [moto] [thumbsup]
The key is to know who is in front of you and who is behind ... and if need be some of you guys just might need to slow down a bit to get a visual every now and then.
It doesn't need to be constant, but if there is a long stretch between turn-offs its just nice to now they are still there. It also doesn't mean everybody has to trundle along at 10km/h under the limit.
There are a few compromises with such large groups ... I think it is worth it, but some don't.
Agree with everything said and I guess that's why I put it out there first.
I didn't mind the waiting so much, it was the wandering mind of what might/could of happened.
Yes all day there was some-one waiting at a major change in direction to mark where we were heading.
I have to say that is probably the 2nd largest OzMo's ride I've been on, so keeping count of helmets was not always easy.
It may well have been me who screwed up loosing Syd & Jukie but I'm not sure if they even got up to where we did turn off
after leaving the lunch stop.
I did set off early from the turn only to find Betty and Signora not with the group, so a hasty u-turn and I caught them.
This is when I might have lost them ???
Very true Betty the group did get pretty strung out over the day and there will always be faster and slower riders.
We have just learned what has been pointed out by Goldfish, that we must exchange more numbers and if ever you get lost
in such a long Monster train or loose site of riders for more than 15-30 mins stopping and contacting someone regardless of your position would be a good idea.
I don't want to tread on anyone's toes and no-one is talking fault, it's just leasons for us to learn as the size of the group
grows and people are comfortable at different paces.
Can I just say now that I hate you all. I was quite content until the weekend with my nice little stock 695. Sure, the seat really wanted to come up a little, and the front end's a tad soft.
But now I've spent all my spare time over the last two days looking at frigging bling on the intertubes. Oooh, some Pazzo levers like Kaz has would be nice, and Heather's bar end mirrors are the duck's guts. And that Sargent seat... How about some new bars, after all mine have some little rust spots, and I can convince myself they're a tad high? Rizoma or Suburban Machinery? Gee, monsters look nice wit a tail chop...
Aaargh! You're all evil, I tell yas. Evil!
Yes. Those of us who vow to "Never Bling" should know better and eat our words. [roll]
Like I say, "There is always something"! ;D
And....nothing like a group ride to get lots of ideas. [moto]
Ha ha. [evil]
I remember a time when I was adamant that I would not bling my bike and I was very happy with it until I met up with other Monsters and their bling. [bang]
Welcome to the club Suzyj. [thumbsup]
Ohhhhh Suzyj,
Bling begins with your first OzMo's ride!
I remember mine fondly, it was a wee little ride out to Bathurst.
I pedaled my stock little 620 pretty hard that day, I was Signora always playing catch up.
That day the bling bug bit and look at me now.........
The board sponsors are your friends!
Sorry gang, lessons learnt...
...as previous, apologies for all the concern caused. It wasn't till in Sydney peak traffic that we first heard the phone and we weren't in a safe position to answer when we heard it. By that stage we were close to our destination (petrol station) so that is when we made our first call. At first I thought no one had my number nor did I have any one elses, but little did I realise, Matty did.
Being part of the old DML crew means that this was my first group ride with any of you (i know hard to beleive!!)...
Again sorry for the concern caused, and likewise I would have started thinking the worst. Its easy to say now, but I now it wouldn't have been an easy position to be in for all of you.
How we separated so easily I'm not sure?? We were following a part of the pack, but got caught in cage traffic back up the mountain. Bikes just kept passing us & with a pillion I simply wont push past cars, (think about the other person on).
So then we slowed at every intersection looking for others, didn't find anyone and eventually had to join into the high-way once Jukie knew were we where.
Again the only spot we knew people would eventually be at was Pheasants nest, no one there, but again we guessed wrong and thought we were still behind. No excuse for not checking my phone, just trying to bring clarity to it all.
Chris, don't stress too much over it. The main thing is that you guys are OK. You have got to expect that with so many people on a group ride that things like this can happen. You did not see a corner marker and you kept going. Not really your fault. You were trying to keep you and your pillion safe. All is good. [thumbsup]
I am sure that I speak for everyone in saying that it was a fantastic day.

So, is there dirt on that circuit?
There was one little dirt hill but I think there is a way to do it without that little little bit.
And there was a small amount of road works finishing one section but I'd say this would be gone by June.
Route looks good, Putty *and* Bells in a single trip, + Big Iain' Secret Road of Joy. I'm in.
10 ish hours riding though, not for the feint hearted.. We'll have to make sure we don't dawdle and manage our stops well. Or lose Jukie. ;D
I'm not sure it's the right ride for a large group.
Part of it perhaps, or an o/note trip for a large group, but a day trip would be stretching it.
And the dirt is very short but would be a little hair raising for those not liking dirt - its a steep downhill with some heavy rutting and some deepish gravel at times.
yeah very true, we would be needing to move pretty smartly or cut it a bit short to take in the best parts.
Today I did the North West Loop Matty posted last week (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=33712.msg657882#msg657882)
I reckon it's an absolutely frikkin awesome loop. The road from Denman to Rylstone (http://bit.ly/cNX7uX) is outstanding. Plus you get Putty and Bells Line; the connecting roads are reasonable as well. [moto]
As well as sweet roads, it is also scenic. Photosynthy picture thing

It is a longish day, even LoneWolf stylez. I went past the Caltex on Old Windsor at about 7:00am, went past it on the way back at around 3:30pm. So ~600Kms and 8.5 hours. I was speed limit +GST for most of it because it's double demerits [leo] . Short breaks for fuel and coffee was about it. No real lunch to speak of, but there are awesome cafes and pubs at Rylstone, which you go past about 12:30.
I reckon it could be done if you stick to smallish groups of riders with similar pace and ensure that everyone knows where they need to go (and if Jukie doesn't get lost [evil])
The dirt part is short (say ~1km) but if you don't like riding in rutted gravel up and down big hills, then this route is probably not for you. I've got every servo on the route in GPS now, the longest single stretch without gas is around ~150kms so S4*'s can make this even though the halfway house is destroyed. (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4044/4545638820_b76c1c345e_m.jpg)
I would seriously consider doing it again next weekend or the weekend after. It's that good.
Awesome! Did you get detoured around the bridge works just out of denman?
I agree that it rocks, but not for everyone as you've said...
Add a couple of hours to get there and back, and a lunch stop, and it's a 12 hour day on the bike - big day, but still very doable in small groups.
I might just have to join you on that ride!
oh, and well done keeping it to limits + gst, there are parts of that loop which scream for a lot more than that....

A friend and I are going on Tuesday the 20th everyone is welcome to come if your are free...
oooh spooky time traveling ride..
* Are you trying to do this clockwise or anti clockwise? From a fuel management perspective, its sorta easier to go
anti clockwise.
* You do know that the road from St Albans to Bucketty is unsealed dirt yeah? :-\ (This bit is dirt: http://bit.ly/bbFDmU (http://bit.ly/bbFDmU)) You need to take the Wisemans Ferry, not the St Albans ferry if you want Tarmac all the way. If you take Wisemans (http://bit.ly/9sK8Be (http://bit.ly/9sK8Be)), you can get fuel at Kulnura (That should get you through to Broke).
* You might be better of cutting across Milbrodale Road and getting fuel at Broke than going all the way into Singleton. http://bit.ly/biHPsw (http://bit.ly/biHPsw) It's about 100 times nicer.
You go past Llama farms and wineries instead of the gaping wounds that are the open cut coalmines around Singleton. Try this on for size: http://bit.ly/bHgNDy (http://bit.ly/bHgNDy) This is pretty much the route we have taken in the past, except we finish off on the Old Pac instead of going via Wisemans.
A) Fuel up at Wilberforce Caltex
B) Stop for a stretch and a smoke at the burnt down halfway house, you will need the rest for the next 10 Miles of Goodness.
C) Fuel up at Broke.
D) Get lunch at Wollembi
E) Get Fuel again at Kulurnu
F) Cattai Ridge road kicks ass on Sackville road. There is no cell phone reception for most of Putty Road. Be careful on the 10 Mile stretch from Milbrodale to Garland Valley (There are a few tricky closing radius corners, there are some "OMG When they say 35KMs an hour they fekkin mean it" corners). There are also lots of nice long flat bits where police enjoy sitting and waiting.
It's an awesome bit of road, but it demands respect. There are lots of little memorials on the side of the road that stand testament to that.
Craigo thank you very much for that mate, its exactly what i was looking for! my mate is one that needs a plan put in front of him...
He is already upset that we are not going down the main drag at bondi where everyone can see him...

This had slipped away onto page 2.
So is there a plan for the next 'official' Ozmo ride? We must be getting near due.
Date? Time? Destination?
Just a thought on the big west ride discussed earlier: may this be better left for when the days are not so short?
Yep a big day out west might be best for when the days are longer.
So who's pitching the next direction/date. Usually first/second Saturday of the month.
Note: Second weekend in June is a long weekend ... generally meaning double demerits, etc.
So does that mean Sat. 5th June?
Then the 5th it is I'd say.
So who's gonna suggest the route then?

ps I will have to grovel to go as it is the cooks birthday 5th june [bow_down]
The chances of getting sub zero temperatures =
HIGHIt will be very cold, I do recall a run up that way in about august or september and got light snow. If anyone is adverse to the cold this ride would not suit.
yeah I do remember folks going out up that way last year and there was sleet and freezing conditions!!
not a very pleasant day from all reports, I think you were on the ride Rob.

No i bailed out last minute. [laugh]
The weather on the mountains can be very changable.
Early june might still ok.
Right now would be perfect.
We only seem to only have 3-4 basic options for group rides.
South, K,V
north, old road
north west, putty rd
west, Bells line.
So put them up an a board and throw a dart blind folded [laugh]
Putty road would be just the same more or less weather wise like Bells line weather / temperature conditions as you are heading over the ranges in the cooler months.
One Bathurst via Bells Line run I swear it *snowed* going over the mountains, that was in April last year:
There is an awesome little pizza shop on the Great Western Hwy just out of Lithgow that Mostro found.
There are also a lot of [leo] [leo] around there.
That looks like a standard day here in Victoria. :'(

yeah, it's likely to be cold, but we could get a warm snap! fingers crossed. At least we would be prepared for the cold this time around. that prior occasion, it was quite warm in Sydney if I recall, so we all got a nippy surprise. :o
At least the pizza(Little Hartley) was good. [thumbsup]
Hang on a minute ... I thought I was the one that was meant to be confused around here.
The photo above was not the snowy, pizza ride. As Craig said it was much earlier than that and it was a beautiful day out at Bathurst ... we just encountered a little low lying cloud on the way home (yes the photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon ... and yes it was a little chilly about then).
The snowy ride was later as Tri mentioned. The intention was to go further west but a few of the less hardy souls decided Lithgow was far enough. I believe this may have been the ride that started with the dust storm.
Guess what?
We would be falling right between the two season-wise.

Seriously though, I think I might go buy some winter gloves.

Regarding the cold, you just gotta be prepared for it over winter... granted the "snowy" ride was in April, hence being caught by surprised.
Here's my check list:
- winter gloves - something with gortex / thinsulate etc...
- skiers inner gloves
- woolen unders - top and especially the bottoms - I use "icebreakers", and they have thumb holes in these sleeves to stop them riding up
- neck warmer
- silk balaclava
- woolen ski socks
- jacket with a liner
With all that on, I'm cosy but do take on board that I have more inherent insulation than others ;)
Seriously, if you're really adverse to the cold, day long riding in winter may not be for you.

way to go Eddie! Hope others take your lead
Well, way to go ... until ... aforementioned persons with political sway and lots of public money at their disposal get the shits with hoon motorcyclists disturbing their peace and quiet with their loud exhausts.
Then the political pressures will move to law enforcement in the vicinity including a crack down on speeding and modified bikes (load pipes, tail chops and tube rego holders), varying speed limits and a string of fixed speed cameras to ensure that the public is not at risk ... and of course for your own safety.
Ha and people think I am cynical [cheeky]

Let's hope dear Eddie doesn't get to spend much time there.

Believe it or not I don't think I have ever been down that road through St Albans to Wisemans ... but ... isn't there a fair bit of dirt ??
Dunno, maybe Big can help us on that one. Without that art in the loop it's just 120k's even the S4Rs will do that in less than a tank!
Big, is part or all of that road dirt?
I hope this is planned for a Sunday so I can come along
If not I will need a couple of weeks to request a Saturday

Wiseman's ferry isn't terribly long - I make the short loop 170km and the longer one (St Albans) 200.

Your map modified to go through Banjo Country (Spencer) gives 162km ... that may be an option.
Also coming out of Wiseman's apparently there is another road/detour which is bike friendly ... that may help too if someone knows the way.
Or if you want we could turn around at Wisemans and head back from whence we came ... that'd pick up some distance if thats what you are worried about.
EDIT: Suzy kinda beat me to it.
The road between Bucketty and St Albans is about 35km of dirt.

Whichever day works really but If Dez is requesting a Saturday off and you're not sure Rob as it's a B'day weekend then we have to go with thee masses.
Dock pedals his dinky pretty well for a no roader now, last spin on the Smart was even in the rain on dodgey tyres, so I think you'll be fine there Ecster.
Sorry Betty Jukie only got a not dirt comment because I know she'll be out for the spin.
I know the loop including Spencer is sealed we have done it before and yes there are sections infact a lot of it that have no centre line marking.

... and unfortunately like pretty much all roads in this state (of disrepair) there were a few bumpy bits last time we were out that way.
I could be out for this one, esp if it's on Sunday - just got the call to go to Singapore for work, probably leaving Sun...

Rob have you weaved your magic for next weekend's ride?

everything's crossed in the hope that we have a day much like today.
Cool and cloudy but no wet roads to speak of, well that's how the day looked in the Southern Highlands.

As long as it is Dry. :'(
Been out today shopping for thermal gear but no wet weather stuff.
Rains for Ducks not Ducs
The weather forcast still looks crap. :'(
Looks like we will have to enlist Heather's legendry status to bring up the roll call, [bow_down]:-*
As us two DOM appear not to be a draw card we thought we were. [laugh] :'(
Sorry, have a date in Melbourne with some West Oz musos and some NT friends. Feel free to join me riding down here but it will take thermals and the wet riding gear as well as a bag of cement.
Sturday is looking more and more like a non event :'(
So NFI sale here we come. [laugh] [laugh]
Very true.
So may I say if by chance the clouds parts and blue-ish sky appears
there area a few of us who are planning on going at 8am anyways.
Turn up at as soon as you wish I will be there from 8am just to have a look ;) no $$ will change hands I promise.
Then if the by chance we can ride.
Turning up at the servo or NFI at 8.00 Matty?
I am wishing for blue too but
with the bom.gov.au map having 990 Low off our coast
on Saturday won't likely deliver a happy [moto] ending.
Might go surfing instead ;D
yep we will be there for the ride or the NFI sale just depend on weather [thumbsup]
Sorry rambling....
8am NFI sale
afterward ride depending on blue sky and puffy white clouds.
Boys and Girls me thinks it's not looking pleasant for a ride tomorrow.
Showers/rain to start the day and few sunny breaks followed by rain and showers to end the afternoon.
So I will be at NFI sale at 8am window shopping join me if you wish.
yes i thinks so the same, we have had a shite load of rain here and even if it fines up the road up here will still be wet and full of pot holes. we might be down at NFI a bit later than that. [thumbsup]
Lets take a rain check. :'(
As jukie said the roads will be Doggy and a lot of debrie's (crap) over the road.
Had 100mm+ of rain here today pathetic :o
Seeya At NFI 8 ish.
Matty if you see any xxxxl Ducati Leathers for 90% of putem under your arm for me. [thumbsup]

Hey good to see you're still Alive Jukie
bugger, im not going to be around for when you guys come my way...
at the moment there is blue sky so I will be out and about riding today. This will be the first trip out for jukie since I got him back [thumbsup] [moto]
so went for a nice, but cold ride down the old road. The road was ok and only a bit of water on it. Saw a very nice imported moster with a chrome tank.hmmmm [thumbsup] [moto]
We went New Line rd, [coffee] at Glenorie Bakery then left onto Wisemans Ferry Rd (Road works and some dirt and gravel to my disgust), Halcrows rd, Cattai Ridge Rd and back home via Pitt Town Rd.
Losts of gravel, dirt debri every where out there, had one sideways moment when I hit a gravel patch mid corner. Lovely day for it.
Sorry we didn't catch up Jukie.
Saturday 19th. [moto]

Unless.... Any idea on timing? (meet and estimated wrap up?)
There's the SLIGHTEST of chances I could make a quick morning run.
Wherever we go Bells Line or Wisemans I can say it won't be a quick morning run.
Whenever we get together it's an all day affair, lots'a Ducati stuff to talk about.
And then there's the Ducati Fashion show for our next outing, that could take all afternoon. [cheeky]
Well I am looking forward to this ride next week but a word of caution
I went out to Lithgow today on the Bells line to have a run on some of the downhill mountain bike trails
out in the Blue Mountains
at 8.00 a.m. it was 2 frigin degres in the sun with frost everywhere.
So rug up she is going to be a frigid Monster ride
I am going to be wearing lots of warm stuff.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.................bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
We did this ride today with several stop including Glenorie Bakery ( I must buy share there it's a great stop) Spencer, Road Warriors and it took us about 6 hours, lots of green roads with moss.
Lots of wet roads even though the sun was out (Very shaded) some road works and cops but a enjoyable ride.
You will enjoy this loop.
I'll have to wear my Collingwood scarf then.
ok guys i dont know where you are going for your ride, but i will probably be out. Betty will be ok for it, and i know i have said this before [roll], and before you ask it is not a night shift thing, im actually on holidays at the moment.
Ok the list is growing slowly.

Gino?
The weather is looking good for Saturday
Me and Dez are still up for Bells line. but wisey would be fine, some one toss a coin.
And i know Matty has some new winter gloves to try and Betty has a new set of leathers try out.
and i will have my heated grips [thumbsup]
But not real early say leave maccas rouse hill 9.30am/ 10.00 ish
When the frost and ice melts :'(
It's 100k's to Lithgow from Macca's at Windsor Road where we usually meet.
Google quotes 1hr-48 mins which is pretty close really.
IMO I'd say leaving at 9am from the meeting points gives us more options for the return which leads me too.
After getting to Lithgow and lunching what is the plan from there, turn around and come back the same way? or head back another direction other than using a lot of the GW Highway.
Hey I don't have girlie stuff. I wish I did. Family commitments

Cool
I'd still be leaving the morning meet at 9am to leave the Jenolan option open.
Leaving at 10am would see us at lunch in Mt Vic 1pm+
I'm out as well for this one....
Been OS last week for work, and about to go do a ski weekend. All of this equals no leave pass credits left...

they are super thin for $30 ,so do not restrict and make a huge difference .
But I will be asking Rob for a ride on his bike with the hot love handles ;D
Which ski shop ?
Any ski sells them, you can also look at Rebel they sell ski gear and other sporting gear.
You might find the thin gloves that the soccer players wear.
There are 5 ski shops on Clarence street between King and Market.

Rob S was on fire grips included, he went past me like I was going backward heading up the first part of Bells.
He says it was the new front tyre fitted yesterday! Did have a bit of a job keeping up after he passed.
I think it was the new pants!
He was telling me the knee sliders were no good though as they ripped straight off the first corner he touched down on (with his new tyre) ;)
ah yes I forgot the Ducati fashion show on display today.
Yeah a great day the weather held out a tad cold at Bell and Mt Vic.
But i didn't notice ;D
We had Matt,Dez Suzy, Paul, Me, Nickati, Gino.
And Betty,Hambo who mysteriously disappeared :-\

Nothing mysterious about it ... I said I wouldn't be joining you on the ride. But got sucked along up the hill.
Apologies if there was any confusion but some knew and by the time we reached our turn around point you were all on your merry way ... too far down the road for us to catch. It would have taken until Lithgow by which time I probably would have been out of fuel.

Thanks Betty. [thumbsup]
Fine by me.
So 8th August Sunday, lets see if we can get 20 bikes out.......... and make some noise.
8th of August is City 2 Surf.
People having to cross the city may have troubles...
Certain Ozmo's running it will miss out on the ride.
Why run when you can ride!
See this is why we need to find a date early.
You can cross the city still using the ED.
So there are two options so far.
1st August
8th August
One person has highlighted problems with each date so far.
So how about a Saturday?
There are a few people who asked if we can go out Sunday due to kids sports on Saturday.
This one was a Saturday and not as many were able to turn out for it.
Lets see when people pipe up to say who when they can come out.

Nah I'm out - that's my retirement party. [wine] [beer]
(that's if I ever start working again of course. [laugh] )
Yeah I know it's difficult to get everyone together especially that there is 70+ Sydneysiders.
The more notice people have of a date the more chance they have to make it.
But then I'm always up for more frequent rides.
That is usually why we do a bigger group ride every 2nd month to try to entice more folks to come on out.
I think the problem with too much notice is that people commit to the date then something else crops up that (rightly or wrongly) becomes more important so it looks like people are piking out.
More frequent rides, where people grab the opportunity if their little black books are empty may be the answer.
2c worth from someone who can't commit to Nov 2020 ;D
Oh and smaller groups meeting more often may mean more riding and less chatting due to less catching up to do. (not that chatting is a bad thing [roll]).
Now do you see why I ride alone so much!!
Thanks Heather, that's where I was going with the suggestion.
More rides, more often.

Does this BI monthly mammoth marathon have anything to do with bikes ?
Yeah the last little weekend run was just a short sprint really.
We usually try to rack up 300-400+ in a day, but then with a bigger group higher k's are always harder.
So here's a thought -
For the large group - (over 5 or 6 people) sedate rides:
Go back to the longer range - 1 day per month, alternate saturday and sunday, and lock it in for 6 months in advance.
Dates dont change, if you can make it you can make it.
People interested in a more impromptu ride can post up the details in seperate threads, people who want to come can reply to them. In the thread, state the date, start time, intended group size and type of ride (spirited, suitable for beginners etc). That way people know the intent and can chose to come or not. If you have a limit on the size (for practical reasons, larger groups don't ted to work on spirited rides as well) then state them, and it will tend to work itself out.
Wow thats seriously organized !Even if it ends up on a ride 2 or 10 bikes, thats the date and it aint changing ?!Love it [clap]

Yep. But in the past we have actually set out the 'once-every-two-month "official" ride' for the whole year.
I also think we need to go back to setting up a separate thread for each 'big/official' ride as the date approaches to collect names, etc ... I think a few people are missing things buried in a 30+ page thread.

Oh and I know I am not as popular as Dez but I could be doing some time on the Old Road this weekend.
i would love to join you all on a ride, however because of my work its a bit difficult to get away for weekends. If anyone does any mid week rides id be more then keen!
Well I mentioned the next ride in the thread about yesterday's ride but thought this would be a more appropriate place. This one (as usual) will need a bit of input. My take on things at the moment:
. The next ride would/should be a Saturday (per rotation policy)
. First weekend of October (two months) is the long weekend (double demerit)
. Long weekend is the middle weekend of school holidays so weekends each side are also within school holiday period
. Weekend following school holidays is MotoGP weekend
. So how about before the school holidays? This means that it won't be as long before the next big group ride ;D
How does Saturday 18th September sound?
Sounds great to me.
Do we need a direction for this gathering.
We've been South to Kangaroo Valley
West out Bells Line
North Putty.
Where to next?
I'll have a look at my new Bike book but if anyone has a suggestion pitch it up.
How about East [laugh]
to Eastern creek [evil]
You're saying that we have been North, South & West. My vote is to NOT go East.

Would people be interested in a weekend trip to do the Oxley highway loop?
Over nighter in Armidale or something?
or that Bylong loop??
Has anyone done the 5 ferries ride..??? Just a thought.......stole the following info........
A quick stop at Spencer. Then on our way to Wiseman’s, OH NO!!! The road was blocked by police taking measurements after fatal car MVA. A 10 minute delay and on our way again.
Morning tea at Wiseman Ferry, then on past St Albans Ferry, riding along the beautiful River Rd to Pit Town Ferry, where we couldn’t fit the 22 bikes on the empty ferry (!!!).
Across the Sackville Ferry, then the Berowra Ferry to lunch at PITS (Pie In The Sky).
Up the full length of the now open Old Pacific Hwy to Somersby and finished with ice creams at West Gosford Maccas.
We all had a wonderful day.
So many roads, so little time.
That sounds alright.
I think DOC-NSW do that ride.
I have been on the 5 ferries ride with the DOCNSW , it was a good day out.

Do you know the way?
We have done a few group rides out that way ... some involved some dirt excursions, others involved too much boring straight stuff.
As for an overnighter I think attendances may be effected too much by the approaching 'festive season' to do it justice ... perhaps an 'extension' for those interested. I thought the overnighter to Bylong might be an option but probabaly the wrong time of year as I mentioned ... might need a bit more planning too.

oberon , get fuel at the servo , mobil? end of town and pick up some ammunition there ;)
out to oconnell pub for a bite to eat
conitinue to tarana , maybe have lunch there ?
back past lake lyall ? which amazing is full of water again
into lithgow at the shell on gt western,
then back down bells and home
