I've kept mine indoors, but will now use a garage.
Red mentioned Cobra cables or some such device.
I've heard of screaming disc locks.
Recommendations? I do have a heavy duty lock with
adecco key (circular)
To be correct, CobraLink has gone out of bidness. There are better more security options out there as this:
http://www.lockitt.com/CablesArmored.htm (http://www.lockitt.com/CablesArmored.htm)
This has the rubber encasement around the cable which is necessary not to make scratchy on wheels.
You should dig up my old post about the attempted theft of several of my bikes from a rented storage unit that was broken into. It was last January. They even stole a large U-Haul box van and drove it through the security gate of my storage unit complex to haul off all my bikes! They couldn't even move the first one an inch! They either gave up out of frustration or were scared off... I'll never know. I keep all my bikes secured the exact same way in my home garage. I sleep like a baby.
PM me and I will bore you with the details.
edit... I posted it Jan 13th 2009 "Lock it or Lose it" thread
I thought you might chime in. I'll check out the thread
thanks! [thumbsup]
My 848 is locked into my baxley chock and I carry full insurance for it.
12ga and no pants works well for me in my garage.
10 acres, gate, great dane, lab, locked up shop, bike alarm, two 12 gauges, 20 gauge, 9mm, .223 with a long range scope, two compound bows, some good ole USMC training, two fists and two feet. get past all that and you can have the bike.
i would consider a thick gauge cable and an alarm. cable and locks, like chains can be cut. they did a demo at work where the installed the club on a car. guy shows up with a slim jim and a little bag. pops lock in about 10 secs, jumps in car pulls out battery operated hand held saw, cuts the club in half and it all took less than one minute. you can never have enough security.

Does it get any better? [thumbsup] Screw the locks and chains! Nakedness and 00 buck work fine! [clap] [laugh]
Thanks for all the info. Flex cable/chain on order from
Lockitt. Alarm should be next. Lead projectiles are
covered. [thumbsup]
If you can drill into the floor, the Kryptonite Anchor works VERY well. Make sure to use JB Weld or some similar 2-part epoxy for the mollys when you sink them.
Add a Kryptonite chain and you're good. If you can, chain it in a couple of places :wheels + frame.
The cable are good for slowing ppl down, but if you have it chained down the cables help a lot.
The screaming disk locks are great, I have a Xena and it works very well. In an enclosed area, they will go deaf. Flat out.
+1 on the Xena disc lock. Got some after the storage unit break in. They touch/move a bike they will never hear the same again! [laugh] Imagine that thing going off in a metal 10x30 storage unit. Think that would attract some attention? They would never know where it was coming from. ;D

and if you're really crafty, you could rig up a sound-sensitive strobe light. anything loud sets it off. they would be shitting in their pants.
i'd probably wake up from my garage lounge-chair slumber to the sound of that alarm and the flashing lights might disorient me enough to make me spill my beer.
but with all that confusion, when the ne'er-do-well sees a strobe illuminated nekkid dude with ol' mossy500, he'll regret his decisions.

He'll wonder when Bigfoot got a gun...lol

Yes, jokingly, but yes
i still have my scorpio alarm in my bedroom closet in a box if you want an alarm. the 2-way pager works really well... and gives you the element of surprise (if you want it to alert you without alarm sounding), which can be fun [thumbsup]
shouldn't you keep it for the wife-to-be and her new moto? [beer]

More vibrator content. Who would have thunk it [roll]
I recommend a pit bull and an alarm. Nothing better [thumbsup]
Agreed. Pit Bull cable locks rock! And Xena screaming disc locks rock x 2!!
bryna picked up one of those thick braided steel cable locks for her new ride... is that as much of a pain to cut as a heavy moto chain? she paid like $60 for it... i'm thinking spend 80 or 90 and get a really crazy moto chain that's impossible to cut except with a torch and some time on your hands.
See my post from Jan. 19, 2009 "lock it or lose it". The defense rests.

Xena has about a thousand disc alarm models on their website [bang]. Which is the best bang for buck (not overkill)?

you are kidding me!
i have one that is like 6 years old and works great. i bought it off ebay. it takes 6 of those "pill" sized batteries, which is the only downside. i have no idea what the model # is, but it clamps on.. chirps with one motion and then all hells breaks loose.
the only downside is that if it gets wet, it acts possessed. i think they have waterproof/resistant models, get one of those.
how long do your batteries last with regular use?

CA1050-170 ABUS 1050/170 Armored Steel O Flex Cable Lock 1 $179.95
I got this from Lockitt online and use it to tie two
bikes together. It's thick though, so running it through
a frame is tight.
Sounds good Dan. [thumbsup] $180 well spent if it saves a bike. I'm a huge fan of locking bikes together. Kind of a take off on the Lays potato chip ad: Bet you can't eat just one. My version: Bet you can't steal just one. [laugh]
yeah...i may just break down and grab a 5016L onguard chain... 14mm titanium enforced hexagonal hardened steel chain links sounds pretty formidable to me.

Thanks but keep in mind I don't research much.
I see what I like and buy. That's how I got into Ducs ;D

It's obvious when your looking at a Duc and a Jap bike side by side. I just need more cash to experiment with both...and a BMW 1000RR etc. [laugh]

So, do you have some photographic proof we could view? I think it bares looking in to.
BTW, I sleep better with the cable as they are not in the next room anymore [roll]
you mean they didn't give you a garage?
Got a garage, holds bikes and VW too. [thumbsup]
Me too but I'm running out o space
i picked up the onguard beast 5016L... the biggest mofo they carried. should be here in a couple days... if the weather settles the F down.
They make good stuff. Hope it does it's job. [thumbsup]
omgod.... i just got my chain a few minutes ago here at work; it's freaking crazy.... i mean, wow, just wow.
don't show it to Bryna before you put it on the bike or she'll BOLT right outta there.
