Title: help for a dumb move
Post by: yamifixer on January 23, 2010, 05:20:28 AM
I throw my Teknic gloves in my helmet and set them on top of the freezer.have for years. but the last time I did the combination of moisture, temperature from the freezer and the leather gloves has formed green mildew to form on the gloves and stink up my helmet. anybody got a trick for cleaning them? I can con my wife into a new helmet (5+ years old) but the gloves are new. thanks

Ive never tried this on moto gear, but if you can find a place that does sports equipment cleaning, they use ozone to remove the smell.

Dishwasher, let the helmet airdry. Wear the gloves until they dry...

saddle soap

it worked for me!  then use the gloves regularly so they can breathe fresh air!

puttin my gloves in the diswasher scares the poop outa me.

The wife said I should just buy a new helmet. I didn't even have to grovel. (love that woman)

Thanks laura I'll try saddle soup and more riding.

Heard of any deals on Shoei's?

Last I saw there were some big deals on the last few RF-1000s because of the new model (RF-1100) replacing them. Not sure you'd want to get those since they're likely to be old stock and at least a year or 2 into their life before you've even put it on. Other than those, no.

how/where do you guys dispose of an old helmet so that unsafe/old lids aren't scavenged and sold on ebay/cl?

[clap]  never would have thought of a planter!!

the insurance adjuster who paid me for my helmet said they cut off the chin strap.  That way no one can use them.

put the gloves on and scrub / rinse with warm soapy water. rinse well - air dry. Leather conditioner.
