As many of you know, I just had yet another shoulder surgery. This was my 4th in 10 years, 2nd within the past year.
This surgery was to remove bercitis, arthritis off my rotator cuff, and some tendenitis. The reason for this surgery was I have had continuous pain since my last surgery.
I have torn labrum issues which have since been repaired.
Anyway, I am almost a month post op and I am still on pain meds and am sick of taking them and constantly hurting.
I start PT tomorrow, but it has never worked very well in the past.
So my question..........anyone tried acupuncture?
I am not sure I buy into it, but I am willing to give it a shot. I am not sure if it works or it is a placebo effect, but whatever. I'll try it.
Anyone here had it done? Results?
I am willing to try anything to stop taking loratabs like make the beast with two backsing candy.
It's as old as breast feeding...
probably pretty barbaric... ;D

I hope you're looking in the mirror right now.
I tried it twice a few yrs back for neck and upper back spasms that I get chronically (occupational hazard). I found it a little painful and not very effective, but I've since been told by other practitioners that the guy who did it on me didn't do it right. I'd definitely try to find someone with a good reputation. Good luck, that shoulder issue sounds miserable.
I did a few times a number of years ago....the expensive guy didn't help my stomach at all but the acupuncture school made the pain in my wrist disappear.
That was really cool.
FWIW.... I think it's worth a try.
(and yeah, it shouldn't be painful. If it is, they aren't doing it right)
i had 6 sessions a few years ago for upper back issues that were giving me horrible headaches. after the accupuncture, i havent had the pain since. try to find an accupuncturist who was trained in china. they are considered doctors in china and go to 5 yrs of college before practicing.
A buddy of mine tore a bunch of stuff in his knee and had pain for a while. He said some old Chinese lady in San Francisco worked magic for him. $15 for a half an hour and apparently it helped. He used to go every other week or so.
His father was also a chiropractor that just started offering acupuncture, said he was cleaning up.

The s/o is going this week. She went a few years ago and it did wonders for her upper back pain.

Not really a related conversation at all.
An ancient form of medicine verse breast feeding.
I don't see any correlation.

Of course you don't.
It's still there though. ;)
Not sure about the acupuncture but I find breasts very stress relieving.
Never tried acupuncture, my body doesn't seem to like needles much so it might not work as intended.

Coming from the far east, acupuncture is pretty common here. Well, it works if the acupuncturist knows his or her stuff. There are a couple variants where a low current is ran through the needles. It is no miracle cure, and here people usually medicate as well as go under the needles.
I reckon that it is best to merge acupuncture with physiotherapy and exercise to get the muscle back on the mend.
Hope that you recover soon.
Just put some Tussin on it!!
the only person i would get acupunture from is an older chinese guy that barely speaks english my dad had hurt his back (sciatic) was in a wheelchair for 3 months before we started taking him to this guy. within a month he was on his feet. not covered by insurance $100 a visit this is 1996-97 ish

First visit last week after a month of sciatica-like pain and had instant results!
Has anyone else had this done for lower back?
Really? Just start a new thread.

Could've but then old man DP or Derby would remind me that there was already a thread.
Anyway, going for second treatment today. Crazy feeling the first time. It felt like blowing bubbles in water with a straw when the needle was poked into L4-L5. Hard to describe but no more pain/aching or knotted muscle.
I thought you disliked sharp things.
Like pins, needles, nails, pictures.
And bees.

I had it done to my back when I was a teen. Chronic lower back pain (not terrible or crippling, but constant) and since my dad is kinda spiritual/new age-y he was happy to pay for the treatment. I think I went twice. At the time, I really believed it worked---I mean my back felt better so I assumed it was the needles. However, I no longer believe in "chi" and so I wouldn't go back if I had a problem nowadays.
That said, I'm a firm believer of exhausting all possibilities with regards to medical treatment. If your first visit helped, then by all means keep it up!

I have done it for my lower back. I had a slipped disc or bulging disc (cant remember) when I was younger. not sure if it was young age, or if it was the acupuncture, but eventually the relief I had from it allowed it to heal. I still get it from time to time now, but stretching and some visits to the DO on the regular has been enough. Ive also done acupuncture like injection's of a dissolvable string. the intent was that white blood cells would go in to attack the foregin object and it rushes in regenerative cells into the area. worked, but the needle was freaking HUGE!

My lower back pain was cured by a combination of regularly stretching my hamstrings and increasing my core strength. No needles required. ;D

Yes, that helps. ^ My current back problems have been a combination of age, stress, lack of sleep/stretching and acting like a gymnast on the weekends.
Second visit today. It felt like waves were traveling from my ankle up to my knee. Strange feeling.
Agreed Lethe! [evil]
What's that all about HeMan?!
1.21GW. [thumbsup] helping so far! Last thing I want is back surgery.
Gramps.. You are correct. No bees!
