Title: Our Obsession
Post by: Motomarathon Association on February 23, 2010, 05:54:15 AM
Hi!

In 1986, a small group of Colorado motorcyclists tried to ride as many mountain passes as they could over a long weekend. Since then, “compressing as many passes as possible into the classic four-day motorcycle sport-touring getaway became an obsession,” said founding Routemaster John Metzger of Boulder, who has organized annual Pass Rides ever since.

Motomarathon is a new sport. It’s about riding as many twisties as possible, over four full days. Routes are kept secret until the night before each event. Through a series of self-recorded checkpoints, riders verify completion at the end of each day’s ride.

The Motomarathon Association was formed in 2009. The state-of-the-art machines for this kind of technical, mountain riding are Ducati’s Multistrada, Hypermotard and Monster. These bikes were built for Motomarathon, the state-of-the-art in sport-touring. The Association is proud to be sponsored by Ducati North America, and by apparel- and gear-makers Aerostich and Wolfman Luggage.

We're really excited to share some upcoming events with you!

2010 Motomarathon Schedule:

Southern California Motomarathon -- March 26-29
New England Motomarathon -- May 13-16
Centopassi Motomarathon -- June 25-28
Colorado Motomarathon -- September 17-20

With two Motomarathons held during our inaugural 2009 season, only six riders completed all the checkpoints out of nearly 100 participants. With four rides scheduled for 2010, it will be a real challenge to achieve all the checkpoints. We expect to crown our first National Champion at the end of the year.

Hope to ride with you soon!

Welcome to the DMF! :)

As this is the Introduction board, perhaps you could also share a little about yourself?  What you're riding, how long you've been riding, what region you're from, etc?  Pictures of your bike(s) are always appreciated too. ;)

Right, sorry! I swear I'm not a robot!

I've been riding since 1975. My first bike was a '71 Kawasaki H1 500 triple, but in 1983 I fell into the best deal of my motorcycle purchasing life when I bought the R90S from a friend in Iowa for $1,200. I think I've put about $20,000 into it since then.... I bought the VStrom for the reliability needed on the kind of rides I do - Long distance through boondocks. It's on par with the BMW GS and Ducati Multistrada, but 50% cheaper. BUT.... it's not on par with the NEW Ducati Multistrada 1200, which is now on the 'next bike to buy' list.

I live in Boulder and I ride as often as I can (average 5,000 to 10,000 miles a year), but this winter has been nasty. I'm really looking forward to kicking off this year's motomarathon season in sunny Southern California!

Here's a pic of me riding the VStrom

Welcome to the DMF :)

Damn, this sounds like the perfect thing for me [thumbsup]

I'm doing something similar in my local Ducati Owner's Club, but it's not easy to gather people.
Maybe I'll allow myself to be inspired by your type of obsession.
