The Daytona 200 will air on SPEED on Friday, March 5 at 9:00pm ET. The AMA Superbike doubleheader will air back-to-back on Saturday March 6 starting at 10:30pm ET.
I don't think anyone noticed. Without Edmondson running the show the stands will be empty.

He didn't flip a truck. He just left it on the street after running from the cops and headed directly into the yard of an off-duty DEA agent. Oops. I assume racing AMA Supersport must be part of one of those new fangled work-release programs. ;D
Anyway, it looks like something happened and he didn't make qualifying.

This year there really is no reason a "privateer" team like RRW can't challenge for wins. They're one of the most organized and well funded ( I assume) teams on the grid. If Chris can't put it on the top of the box and challenge for wins in 2010, no excuse but "I don't have what it takes to win at this level", will do.

and MaBell split up in 1984 (no, George Orwell had nothing to do with it! ) -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_System_divestiture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_System_divestiture)
.....In 1994, Bell Atlantic became the first Regional Bell Operating Company to entirely drop the original names of its original operating companies.....
.....In a merger announced on March 5, 2006 and executed on December 29, 2006, AT&T Inc. acquired BellSouth for approximately $86 billion (1.325 shares of AT&T for each share of BellSouth)[3] The combined company retained the name AT&T. The merger consolidated ownership of Cingular Wireless and YELLOWPAGES.COM, both of which were joint ventures between BellSouth and AT&T.
With the merger completed, wireless services previously offered by Cingular Wireless are now offered under the AT&T name. In addition, BellSouth has formally become AT&T South, its Bell Operating Company doing business as AT&T Southeast, and ceased doing business under the BellSouth name on June 30, 2007....so it was within the realm of possibility that the tourney in Happy Gilmore could have been sponsored by one of the Bell entities that may have still used the old Ma Bell logo and "Bell" name still....

I find it interesting that in 1996 a golfer purportedly earned/won $17K for 18th place....[granted it's a movie]

...or greedier race management ;D
look at the total purse for golf for each round ( and there are how many in a season??? ) and then how many rounds in the AMA and the total purses available per round......and it looks extroidinarily pathetic in comparo....and it does somewhat boil down to race management and race promotion taking a huge cut( not that they should work for free OR that they don't do work to earn what they get)....but if the show ain't gettin paid, then there soon won't be a show!....promotion and race management needs to woo big name sponsors to get off their wallets and pony up some cash and they certainly ain't doin that or at least seem like they aren't! ( and I thought that was half of the promise that DMG was supposed to deliver with the Francis family connection)...all it seems like they have done most effectively is to scare away the manufacturers that were ponying up the most to support the series....
Attendance.
What happened to Hopkins? Two DNFs?
Both mechanicals. I think his engine let go in the first race. It was pretty early -- the first couple of laps. I didn't see the second, but it was another mechanical. Not a good start for him.

So for those of us not overly interested in the AMA anymore, does anyone have factory ride out there?
There is zero direct factory support in the superbike series, no? Are there any full-factory rides out there in any class?
Will Hopper have cosmetic surgery to fix those silly ears?
Please advise!

the yoshimura suzukis and josh hayes' yamaha are 'factory'. direct factory support, whatever. the yam is in-house at Graves, but it's factory.. sorta. yosh has always been factory-but-not, as in factory but run out of yosh here in CA. no honda or kawis.
but that's all sorta not relevant -- the AMA rules since last year mean all the superbikes are essentially superstockish. they aren't very super anymore. hopper
could win... just like a jordan bike, etc

it's a popular pasttime these days to give him shit, but not even close.
jt has 2 world titles, including a really hard fought and impressive 2007, and, until the bridgestone switch, was doing very well as a GP rookie.

+1. JT went from a satellite GP ride to a factory WSBK ride, the same bike that won the championship last year. And he's been pretty competitive in testing.
Hopper went from a factory GP ride to a privateer WSBK, which lasted only a couple of races, then couldn't even get back in WSBK (along with that 3banger GP weirdness). He's now in AMA on a privateer bike that blew up in each of its first two races.
