Title: Back in town!
Post by: AndreRA3 on March 05, 2010, 07:31:13 AM
Hey guys and gals,

This announcement is a bit late in coming, but I'm back in town.  Those of you who have joined the group in the last 18 months or so may be asking yourselves "Who the hell is this guy?".  Worry not, I ask myself that same question every now and then.

Anywho, I got back from Belgium just before Christmas, and have been keeping busy looking for a job.  So busy, in fact, that I forgot to let you good people know I'm around.  A thousand apologies for that!  While the job hunt has failed spectacularly, I've decided that I might as well enjoy life a bit.  So, if anyone wants to grab a beer one of these days, catch up, shoot the shit, let me know!
[beer]

A word of warning: I've been living in Belgium for a year and a half.  I've become somewhat of a beer snob.  None of this watered down "drinkability" bull crap.  Beer needs color and flavour! [drink]

But anyway, who's still around that would remember me?

cheers!

André

Welcome back!!  [thumbsup] Don't know you but have looked at lots of posts of yours and your website. Certainly agree about the beer.  I fear you're way too creative though for this bunch.  [laugh]  [beer]  [drink]

Andre, very cool to see you back in town.  Kind of surprised in fact  [laugh]  I can't remember exactly but did you sell your motorbike before you went to Belgium or do you still have it?

Might need to plan a lunch at Margeux's some time soon  [beer]

Hey Lisa (right? New screen name is throwing me off  :)),

Yeah, I sold my bike before I left.  I'm back on 2 wheels, but it's a bicyle this time [laugh]

I wasn't planning on coming back this soon, but that's life! Plus, those academics are a weird bunch.  I was already getting more insane by the minute, so if I stayed any longer I'd risk growing a goatee, wearing a "Cliché Guevara" tee-shirt, and speaking with a pompous faux-brittish accent.   [cheeky]

Margeux's sounds good!  Maybe sometime toward the end of next week?

And Hey Red,

Your screen name seems familiar, but I think you're right.  Haven't had the pleasure of making your acquaintance yet.  Still, if a beer with a wannabe Euro-trash sounds like your cup of tea, I say come along to whatever get together we manage to, uh, put together.

Cheers! (see, pompous fake-brit mannerism cropping back up!)

Getting old is really strange sometimes: I can remember YOU... but I can't remember who I am.   :o

and you're worried that might set you apart from most of this group how, exactly?

good to see you back in town; i'm always up for a pint at the monk or the dub...

Hey George, and McKraut!

Well, I was hoping the snobbery level would be high amongst this crowd, but thought that a preemptive apology couldn't hurt  ;D

Old Monk and Dubliner sound cool, and if you folks feel like coming north a bit, there's a couple of potentially worthy places near me.  Trinity Hall seems to have a decent selection (75 & McDermott), and I think there's a micro-brewery in McKinney with it's own pub as well (is it Franconia? Anyone know?)

Food for thought, anyway!

Did you say, micro brewery?  [evil]

Just saw this!! Very cool, glad your back! [thumbsup] Yes, job hunting sucks! [bang] We'll discuss this over several dark beers. [beer] Hey, where the hell is your brother?? If memory serves me right he posted months ago about selling the PU999 bike and never saw anything else. He's still alive right? [laugh]

Hope to see you soon!

Yeah, Gus is alive, though still pulling those 80 hour weeks at his soul-sucking job.  I'll try to get him to join us wherever we meet up  [thumbsup]

And Blackfriars?  Whatever that is, it sounds interesting!

Just googled Blackfriars.  Seems like an Old Monk type place.  Very interesting!

Also, the micro brewery in McKinney only has 3 brews at the moment.  I thought they had more, but if I was thinking of another place I can't find it at the moment. http://www.franconiabrewing.com/ (http://www.franconiabrewing.com/).

Blackfriars and Old Monk share ownership, I believe, and are right across the trolley tracks from each other.  Good selection of beers, good food, lousy parking. [cheeky]

John, you're partially correct about the Friar and The Monk. The Black Friar is across the street from The Idle Rich on McKinney Ave. The Monk, The Black Friar and The Idle Rich are all owned by the same group. They each have excellent sellections of import and hard to find beers from all over the world. I do frequent all of them since they are close to downtown (where I work). I will tell you though that all 3 are gearing up for the annual St. Patrick's Day celebration which fyi is something to behold. Last year the spousal unit and I went to The Idle Rich and were very surprised at just how fast in afternoon crowd descends. The Friar has a very Bohemian feel, The Idle is decidedly an Irish Pub and The Monk, well most here know what The Monk is. They all 3 will have bands and specials with party favors next week.

Any takers?

Little Missy, - a sweet, innocent young thing like you might not be familiar with "micro breweries".  Them's the places that make them teeny, tiny little beers.

Andre,

Good to hear that you are back in Texas and that you are doing well.  I will keep an eye out for a gathering that I can make and swing by to say "hello".

Tell Gus "hello" for me as well.

Take Care,

Swanny

So maybe I understated the beer selection and was wrong about the pseudo-Mick bar across the tracks.... :-[
Maybe I was right about the lousy parking, at least? [cheeky]
Just be careful around those rails when you've got a couple of Hoegaardens on board [evil] ... you wouldn't want to spill any! ;D
