Title: Rockers vs. Mods 2010
Post by: RED on March 07, 2010, 11:54:39 AM
All schedules are up now as follows:

http://www.rockersvsmods.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=58 (http://www.rockersvsmods.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=58)

Looks like some really good bands are in place. Let's hope the weather holds up. If anyone is 'into' this sort of thing let's ride! I'm in for the weekend. I think Suart is going to have a really nice surprise to unveil by the weekend.

Post up !

I hate snobs who are posers on a bike!  No Harleys allowed?   [laugh]
I will go on my Harley and ride up and down the street just to piss everyone off......yes I'm also in a bad mood but never havv I attended a so called rally where they exclude bikes.

So if there was a Euro/Italian sports car meet, where they didn't allow American muscle cars, would you go burning up and down the street in a camaro?  I don't see why its anything to get worked up about.

I would indeed  [evil]

My problem is two-fold.  first the flight I took tonight pissed me off and secondly every rally I attend that is a "Harley" rally according to some always puts "ALL BIKES WELCOME."  There, rant off now.  I'm going to eat dinner and go to a bar for some relax time.

[coffee]  Yeah but would you go to a Harley rally on sportbike?

Maybe that's what Mods v Rockers needs to do;  "All Bikes Welcome (but don't be a goober and turn up on the wrong $#%^ing bike...)"  [evil]

Rick Miller and I went two years ago on our shiny red Ducs and were welcomed enthusiastically.  Of course, we're welcomed everywhere we go.  We had a good time, great hospitality, interesting peeps, lots of ink, VERY cool old bikes & scooters.

Ride what you have, but be there.

George

If all we know is people here on the board it limits us from knowing what's going on all around us. Scrat is into the HD crowd  [thumbsup] others here ride with other groups too so it's no biggie to go to an Itallian scooter and british bike celebration. Heck truth be known there are some BMW's and Japanese bikes there too (and actually one of the baddest assed HD cafe racers I've evah seen!) Last year I went to Lee Harvey's for the afternoon then DLS and Bryant and I rode to Amsterdam and had a hell of a good time. It's fun to meet new people I think. I really don't give a shit what kind of bike they are on. They are on two wheels!  [moto]  [thumbsup] Now, I will prolly NOT be making the Bandido's rally because....er...uh... I'm busy that weekend.  [thumbsup]

Ata-Boy George!  ;D You are such a rebel. Although rose is so last year it might go well with a mauve shade on a scooter with at least 35 mirrors on it (a real scooter, not the Duc). Of course don't forget the skinny jeans, black blazer with a black skinny tie on a baby blue shirt and last but not least the Beatle boots. If you don't have any Beatle boots (but I bet you do  [thumbsup]), ask Pin-oak-eeoh. He found some recently.  [laugh] [laugh] [clap] Then you could sneak in as a Mod. See you there?

Well, 35 miles on the Scarabeo is a bit much since I would also have to return or stay at the Belmont. It's going to RED! I'm also more a Rocker than a Mod at heart.  [laugh] See you there?

I've been turned down from entering a HOG rally in Oklahoma because I wasn't on a Harley or a member of the HOG club - don't get me started on the number of Harley snobs out there. I like to piss them off and then outrun them - get that big motor kit yet to keep up?  ;D

the way you're riding lately it wont be hard to catch you.  You look drunk out there lately.  [leo]

as for the HOG rallies, well it's a members club only, ONE which I don't belong to and that's the ONLY exclusive rally I've seen but at least they pay dues and so on (dumb in my opinion since riding is about freedom to me).  I work for a living and deal with politics daily, I don't need my hobby to have the same crap in it.  PRIVATE club Mr. Frisco.

no offense here but i don't typically think of a nice and shiny red 999 as a "rocker" bike... i mean, i guess it's possible, but just always kind of thought of rocker as dirty old cafe bikes.  i'm neither so i really don't fit into either crowd.

Rich, I know you, you're just like the rest of here.  [laugh] [clap] A middle-class homeowner who works for living and pays exhorbitant taxes. If you will, the so-called 'Ton Ups', Rockers or whatever one wishes to call them are just like us. I mean, come on, for a group to put on an event that invites Itallian SCOOTERS! for crying out loud has a tremendous since of humour I think. They go through the motions of a 'club' but in the end it's the same interest we all have about the facination of the motorcycle and what it means individually to us all. Come on come all is the message.

For instance at last years Lee Harvey party on Saturday I witnessed a hoard of BMWs, and some really nice HDs. You will see Nortons and Triumphs of years ago but there were also several nice Ducs. Surprisingly there weren't that many cafe racers. I do know that Stuart is building one hell of wicked concoction that he plans on riding over that I personally can't wait to see. I think seeing the DFWMers at this event would really be cool. JMTC  [thumbsup]

IMO who gives a crap as long as you belong to the two-wheeled dream that is freedom.  I'm not taking a stand with anyone just offering up my opinion, like it or not.  ;D

Sadly I will be out of town at an "ALL BIKES WELCOME" rally this very weekend in Louisiana.   [clap]

Try riding a japanese bike at an AMS event.  I have no problem with that.  Why would you take a child molester van to a lambo event?

nah, not me... i take the bus.  might be that black 1098 that i see many days that parks in the adolphus parking garage along commerce (next to walt garrison/rodeo bar).  i've met the guy at jason's deli before; he seemed pretty cool but didn't sound very interested in our little "group"
Title: Re: Rockers vs. Mods 2010

here's the email from the event organizer:

"Yep. Harley's have a rally every 3 days. Plus the mods/rockers thing
is specific to the Brighton Riots in the early sixties. I'm sorry if
offends but we're planning a mods and hogs event, if that's any
consolation."

It's obvious he doesn't know that there's only ONE sponsored rally for Harley's and that's the HOG group which no one belongs to anymore because of the BS and politics.  [laugh]  Anyway, just starting shit and soliciting a response; I know you're surprised right?

Before you start in on a history lesson I know what the Brighton Riots were about.  [leo]  Lastly, I told him I owned all types of bikes but I still think it's stupid to host an event at local bars and limit participation.

[bang]  ok done.  Besides, I'm out of town that weekend so you guys have fun.

This is why our club doesn't have a forum we have to say everything to each other's faces.

I hope the rest of you come and check it out, we put a lot of work into this event and it should be a blast (if it doesn't snow). If you do nothing else, head over to Big D's on Saturday around noon. HDTV/Discovery Channel will be shooting an episode of Cafe Club Racer (I think that's the name of it). Plus Keith has some crazy stuff over there and generally good people.

After that we're planning on going on a ride where the scooters will be headed from the South  while the bikes head from Downtown and we're going to meet on the bridge over the mighty Trinity River (conveniently located by Lew Sterrit). Probably going to be a logistical mess, but it'll look cool. And James Dean said that's all that matters.

Scott, if you need some help in nursing those bikes back up to speed I'll help excersize one of em for ya.

I'm registered and making plans on being at The Belmont on Friday night then riding to The Amsterdam Bar.
Saturday hopefully riding with Stuart and JWeave over to the judgeing. JWeave, make sure Stuart is signed up so he can enter the bike for judgeing. No matter what bike he enters it'll win.

oh, and guys, again, this is NOT an exclusionatory type of event. It's fun for fun's sake. That's it. That's all.  [thumbsup] Cool bikes.  [moto]Cool vintage scooters.  [moto] Cool people.  [thumbsup] Cool beers.  [beer]

Had a very interesting lunch with one of our companies vendors who supply software to our industry. He is from the UK and lives there working for this company who supplies us. I told him about the Mods and Rockers this weekend and he lit up and said "I was one of those back in the day". He had a mid-60's Lambretta that he rode around London on with the rest of his droogie friends. He said all they used to do was to ride from club to club and listen to bands such as The Who and such. He was at the now infamous Brighton Riots but did not participate in the actual fight. I got the straight skinny straight from the source.  ;D

Show this to your friend in England. A shot of 8 Lambretta's lined up in a row is a rare site anywhere. And 8 Lambretta's all running simultaneously is a certifiable miracle. Mine's the baby blue one.

Great pics! I'm happy to see such enthusiasm for their restoration. I'm a big fan of restored vintage bikes in general and these are surely a landmark piece of history in the human endeavor to get away from 4-legged beasts. Can't wait to see them all again at The Belmont on Saturday morning!

SO what classifies a moto as a "Mod" or a "Rocker"?  Or is it the rider that's classified?  I think I've got it figured that scooters are "Mods" and everything else is "Rocker."  What about my 2002 Guzzi Le Mans?  Not a vintage bike (well maybe the motor  [bang]  [laugh] ) but still... "Rocker"?

No, you have to register but if you plan on going to Lee Harvey's and Trees afterwards then you'd have to pay the regular admission price into those venues. Boobies, ( love saying that ;D ), FYI Guzzi's were well beloved for cafe racers. They are very much included. In fact if you'd like to see all sorts of bikes that are 'accepted' check out http://www.caferacermag.com/ (http://www.caferacermag.com/). Billy Joel, the musician, even gets in on the scene.

Rich is right, just be yourself. I've got a T-shirt from The Ace Cafe in London and that's about all I have in common with a cafe racer this weekend so WTF. You'll be a star anyway just showing up. Chicks on bikes are always hawt.  [moto]  [thumbsup] We need more smiley's. just sayin...

Heck of a way to start the riding season is right. With over 100 registered peeps and many many more who came out it was a great showing for cycles in the DFW area. Nice people all around. Met people from San Antonio, Chicago, Oklahoma, New York and all over Texas. Talked with the editor of Cafe Racer magazine who was with the Discovery HD crew. Tomrrow is certainly going to rock.

I had a lot of fun at this.  Good to see Scott again (looking healty), Lisa, CJ, Ron and Steph, R & B, and Red [thumbsup]

The best part was at the Belmont with beer and a cigar while milling around a parking lot full of bikes of all kinds.  You meet many more people like that than while sitting at a table with people you know. MHO.

I'll start a pic thread so iPhone users won't have to wait for pic uploads on this thread.

WOW!  Never seen so many badass bikes all in one place.  Must have been 300 at Lee Harvey's when I left at 4.  The band was just getting started so I'm sure they'll be seriously packing 'em in by tonight [moto]

Thanks to George and RED for leading the way from FW into downtown - I still have no idea where we were but, man, what a show.  Bike watching, people watching all in a variety of semi-convenient local venues   [laugh]  I'm happy to say Ducati were very well represented today; still out numbered by about a million to one vs. the Triumph folks tho... I guess it's the thought that counts, right?   [bang]  [laugh]

Anyway, good times and really standout Ducati peeps.  Andy and Amy, Dan, Ron and Steph, Charlie, George, Alex, Rich and Bryna - great to catch up and just chill for a while.

And I'd also like to personally thank whomever it was that ordered up the Typhoon winds this afternoon  :o  Holy smoke, if I were any closer to the tank I would have been underneath it  [laugh]

It was cool hanging out with the usual suspects and seeing folks (Andy, Amy) that I've not seen in a while.

What a turn out!  :o  [moto]

I'm in for this next year.  [thumbsup]

Thanks for making it out. It was great seeing all you guys. I had no clue that many people would show up. Amazing. Next year my bike is going to need a side car for my liver.

In the next few days I am going to collect all the different flickr streams and whatnot and put links at rockersvsmods.com.

Also, I've known Sheldon (the big bartender at Amsterdam) since he was 19 and I have never seen him when he wasn't a hyperactive glass breaking freak of nature. So either he's had a thousand dollar a day coke habit for 15 years or he's a high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.

Cheers!

good times at the amsterdam last night.  well, i think to be fair the best time was had by the big man bartender, who both alex and i agreed must have been on coke.  byrna thought maybe crystal meth... either way though he was having a GREAT TIME!  thanks to ron and steph for hanging out extra long and sticking around for some sofa king pizza.  you'll be happy to know the leftovers arrived home safe and sound   [thumbsup]

looking forward to lee harvey's later today

[laugh]...that is Sheldon...honestly, that is just the way he is.  I don't think I have every seen him act differently, at least in the three plus years I have known him..  He is actually one of the owners of the Amsterdam.  Ex-Navy dude also.

Sheldon is one of the nicest guys I know period. And yes, he's got the energy to spend. Like I went to the bar Saturday night to order, caught his eye, he smiles with that psycho glazed eye look, I look down to reach for my wallet, I look up and he's one stepped it onto the bar and is getting another box of mugs down from atop the cooler! Definately special ops.  [laugh] [laugh]  [thumbsup] Has an awesome bike too.

Brendan Behanna won the scoot. So now he has a Guzzi and a Vespa. He might be cooler than all of us.

That will be a fun project for him. He can swing both ways now.  [laugh]

I caught the Hangover party at the Dubliner Sunday on the S4RS, and was only one of two Ducatis there...Got kudos from other Ducatistis who didn't bring theirs, though. More scooters than bikes. We can't let that happen next year, can we?!?!?!

I estimate 200-300 bikes at Lee Harveys.
Incredible!  And maybe eight Ducs. It was fun and
I'll go again, but will wear full helment, not a partial
and goggles.  [moto]
