Good morning DMF! I've been lurking here for the past month. According to the "Total time logged in" I have done 22 hours and 32 minutes of research, learning all I can about these beautiful Italian machines or should I say works of art. I am completely new to motorcycles, but have always been interested and can now afford to turn this interest into a reality. I have recently taken my permit test and will be taking a MSF class very soon.
The Ducati Monster has always caught my eye and I hope to join the ranks of Ducatisti in the very near future. So if anyone in Nor Cal is contemplating selling their 05 or 06 S2R800 this year I may be contacting you ;)
Welcome to the DMF! :)
Make sure you check in with the MOB (Monsters of the Bay Area) (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=19.0)...we might be a bit rough around the edges but we're a good group. ;D
Glad to hear that you're planning on taking MSF. [thumbsup] I'd like to suggest a cheap, used, little Japanese bike of some flavor (Ninja 250/500 or GS500 are typical) as your very first bike. Confidence-building, far cheaper to fix when you drop it as most newbs do at least once (plus less heart-breaking), far cheaper to insure, and you can often sell for the same price you bought it for. Do a few thousand miles on that, and then look for a 620, 695, or S2R800 as a great 2nd bike.
There's a great post on BARF about beginning bikes (http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5380523&postcount=8), I'd recommend giving it a read.
Anyway, whatever you decide, have fun! [moto]
