Title: Can you recommend a perforated jacket?
Post by: jsd2 on March 15, 2010, 05:35:48 PM
Hi all. I am looking to upgrade my summer jacket from textile to leather. Does anyone have an recommendations?  I would like the jacket to be somewhat visible so I would like to avoid jackets that are all black. I would like it to be somewhat reasonably priced (between $300-$500). Since it will be my summer jacket I would like it to have good ventilation, ce shoulder, elbow pads and at least a spot for a ce back pad.  Any input would be great. I don't need it right away because I have a non perforated jacket that should get me through the next couple months.

Thanks,

Jim  :D

Have a look at this jacket.  About $350 or so.  If you get the black ones, the price is quite a bit cheaper.

If you scroll down a bit there's a 10 minute video review on the jacket.  Been hearing good things about it and will likely grab one in the next few weeks for myself.

If you want a more retro look - look at Tourmasters Coaster II air. The sir is the perforated version. I've got the non perfed version, and it's a pretty good jacket. Also, it's only around $200.

In the 'not all black' camp, though higher than your budget theres Ducati jackets of sevral descriptions or their Dianese counterparts

They offer a 10% discount on this jacket if you ride a bike with a chromed, stretched swingarm.

I have been looking for jackets as well, check out the Alpinestar Helius(http://www.revzilla.com/product_images/0014/8868/Alpinestars_Helius_Leather_Jacket_zoom.jpg), or the Dainese Laguna Seca,(http://www.motorcycleobsession.com/leathers/dainese/laguna-seca-white-large.jpg) or Dainese Air pelle (http://www.dainese.com/media/catalog/product/cache/209/front_image/450x560/8a02aedcaf38ad3a98187ab0a1dede95/1/5/1533611_622_F.png)

on the dainese site, make sure you look through the colors, the air pelle is lame in black, but with white stripes its ok

Hunt around for the Legua Seca too - it's not part of the current line, so a lot of places have close out prices on it.

Being a cheap mofo, I avoided the Italian skins.  I first bought a Cortech, but the zipper broke after the 5th ride.  I ended up buying a Fieldsheer Razor for $160 from Motorcycle Closeouts.  CE armor all around, very good ventilation (has a removable liner).

I love my Vanson Mark 2 Perforated jacket. Worth every penny:

Flows an unbelievable amount of air. Under 60F and it is downright cold.

Do you have a rough idea of what size you are looking for?  I currently have the Laguna Seca on clearance for $314.00.

I'm afraid all I have left in 54 is the white/black.

Thanks for the help everyone.  I got a good deal on a Alpinestars Stage Perforated Jacket.  I will use that for now.  Seems like a decent jacket and it was only $229.  That is cheaper than my textile jacket that I got when I bought my Monster.  I also got a CE back protector for the jacket.

Jim :)

Johnsons Leather in San Francisco makes a really good perf'd jacket with t-pro 100 joule armor and an optional level 2 back protector. He can customize pretty much anything about the jacket as well. I love mine, and have also had 2 vansons (cut too large for me) and 2 alpinestars (quality wasnt awesome).
