Title: 1 piece suit revisted.
Post by: He Man on March 24, 2010, 07:40:58 AM
Alright, i spoke to you guys last time about some suits nad i actually got a chance to look at some of them first hand.

Im getting rid of my Kobe Misano Suit simply because my ball sack cant handle it. i wear a cup and i need more space down there and i need to go up a size.

So my options right now is to go with either the Kobe Dragon 1 piece seen here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kobe-Dragon-leather-motorcycle-suit-38US-KB2400_W0QQitemZ170169847471QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApparel_Merchandise?hash=item279ee9ceaf (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Kobe-Dragon-leather-motorcycle-suit-38US-KB2400_W0QQitemZ170169847471QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApparel_Merchandise?hash=item279ee9ceaf)

It looks super high quality ( and they have some good leather, and this suit is a few steps up in terms of seem construction and leather panels) BUT is black and man i bet this thing is HOT in the summer time.

another option is the teknic violator
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2092, (http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=2092,) i put on a teknic before the legs are such a perfect fit, the only thing is, my friend who owns the suit said that it fits really well but it really hurts behind the knees for some reason...

and lastly is the speed and strength one. it looks pretty much like leather slapped together with insane seems. dont know how good it is. but hte leahter is a bit shiny, and its priced point makes me feel like im getting ripped off when compared to these other 2 suits.

any recommendations? i want to stay under 600ish....and it would be great if i could find a suit with soft armor....

Check the back of the knee to see if it is leather or fabric.  My Vansons (10 years old) have leather backs and they do pinch after a bit. The newer designs have fabric on the back of the knee so they don't bunch (as much) when your knee is bent.

Why are you wearing a cup? Are you using the suit for some other sport?

I have come up w, a much better IMO way to protect my junk from the tank.

I have mentioned this before but will again .

I take the rubber back pad protector from one of my older riding Jackets and put it pulled up on my seat between my seat, tank and me.

Protects the junk and gives my butt a little more padding.

Just remember, each time you dismount to grab the mini seat so you can put it back in place the next time you get on.

im wearing it because of 2 reasons.

im just a bit taller than a size 38 so the suit cuts into my balls, so i wear a cup, i can go without it, but then my junk hangs on one side and everytime i brake, it gets pressed up against the tank.

the 2nd reason is simply because i have a fear of going over the handle bars and maybe the bike is on its side already and i fall on the sliders and handle bars....with my crotch and then you know what. its not that big of a deal, im use to wearing it for a few hours whenever i do any sort of contact sport.

No FHE but this suit got good marks in the RiDE tests (abrasion, seam strength, etc)

i REALLY like hte hein gerike. but i cannto find a size 38 in the US and im trying my best to avoid buying from over seas. you know what if it comes with a small rip etc. I wonder why Sportbiketrackgear.com no longer imports them.

friend has one of the celtic suits. i think its a really nice suit and really well made especially for the price

Are you dead set on the one-piece?  The Hein Gericke Tricky two-piece also got good marks, and I know there are a lot of domestic sources (for the jacket, at least).

Another brand I was shopping was Spyke - not a lot of dealers in N America, but there are a few on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPYKE-BLASTER-DIV-MEN-2-PIECE-LEATHER-SUIT-BLACK-48-38_W0QQitemZ350331818698QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApparel_Merchandise?hash=item51916752ca (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPYKE-BLASTER-DIV-MEN-2-PIECE-LEATHER-SUIT-BLACK-48-38_W0QQitemZ350331818698QQcmdZViewItemQQptZApparel_Merchandise?hash=item51916752ca)

... in Germany, so probably a no-go for you.

That's too bad about the Kobe - it seemed like a good choice of suit for that price range.  Do you think a different, or more spacious crotch helmet would help?

Did you check out any of the custom suits. Maybe just save up a little more and you can get your CUP custom fit in there.  Maybe they`ll put a pocket for it in there. I don`t remember all of them but heres two, http://www.spartanleathers.com/ (http://www.spartanleathers.com/) (Custom starting at $550) , http://www.heroicracing.com/index.html (http://www.heroicracing.com/index.html) ( These guys are in Queens and I think will come to your house to measure you), There are more, there is one in CA that does them inexpensive too but I can`t think of the guy.

I noticed the higher up a product line you go, the more comfort features they have, (more / better stretch panels in the crotch, knees, and waist, etc..) I suggest saving up a little bit more money, there are a lot of choices nearer the $1000 price.

At a minimum, I may get this one in black and white, notice the stretch material in the crotch  :D http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=DAI_1513267-I97-48_G (http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=DAI_1513267-I97-48_G)
The new version of this suit, http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=DAI_1513308-L00-48_G (http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=DAI_1513308-L00-48_G) has the softer leather, and updated armor and liner, which is what I have my eyes on.

http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72619 (http://www.1000rr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=72619)

not sure im an all black guy though. Its got to be hot as balls in the summer.

On eBay there is a brand new Laguna Seca 1 piece in white for $650
and also a member selling his for $600 used (in comparision id pay the extra $50 for the new one, unelss i can get the used on for around 500 or so) the Dainese retails over $1200 but is it actually worth that much? Or am i pyaing for the name?

What's your height and weight?  I've got a used red & white Vanson 1 piece to sell (an older verson, so it's their good leather before they went to the cheaper stuff).  It's either a 40 or a 38.  I was gonna eBay it.

an acquaintance of mine wears an Arlen Ness suit and he says it's the most comfortable suit he's ever worn.

/shrug seems weird considering the name but hey..

5'6" 30inch inseam, if i go for the kobe, im defintely going up to a 40.
but i wear a 38 in teknic suits, hows the legs on them? i lost some weight in my theighs and theres too much room in my kobe calf now.

im looking at dainese's sizing chart, 34US/44EU on paper is a PERFECT match to my specs, but the chest is way to small. (38"chest, vs 34")
