Title: Gotta ride!
Post by: TresGatos on April 04, 2010, 06:33:57 PM
When I was down South I could ride solo on 917 for
some fun. Up North now so it's fun slaloming Lbj to 75
North and back. Just sayin....

I rode 455 yesterday evening, from Pilot Point to 75.......What a blast!

How's the road surface on 455?  Last time I rode through there (Pilot Point east to 75), the straights were good but every corner seemed to be chunking up.  Major buzz kill cos' that's a great stretch of road  [bang]

I agree. They have purposely left the turns on 455 from Celina to 75 bumpy as hell to keep faster bikes off the road. The turns are like rumble strips! [bang] Heck, they even banned bicycle riders off of 455!! Assholes. >:( You see the occasional cruiser but all the good sport bike traffic left years ago. I used to ride the hell out of that road in the late 70s and early 80's and it was smooth as glass and there was nothing out there. Nothing. Celina and Anna had like 100 people each and zero Highway Patrol or Sheriff cars. All you'd see was a coyote, maybe a farmer pulling a hay wagon and a few era appropriate sport bikes. [moto]

Isn't that shitty part of 455 where Andre crashed several years ago? Andre????

455 isn't too bad.  they re-paved it and it started really bad but now it's semi ok.  if you find the right track you're good though

[beer] East Tx has some great stuff ! I'll be doing a burger run soon as schedule permits - we'll have to time it with a day you are off.  It takes 6 hours & 4 are twists [moto]

Guess I need to check out 455 again. I just got so tired of the whoop-de-doos in all the turns, the increase in Collin County "country" traffic and all the damn leo patrols I bailed long ago. Like I said, the general scooter riding concensus was they left the turns buggered up because the cage traffic didn't care and they didn't have to pregnant dog about all the crazy racers on their roads.

Maybe I should meet some of you Okies along 75 some where and slab it to 455 and cruise west to Pilot Point then up 377 for some yummy BBQ at Clark's Outpost. Not exactly the Talmena Scenic Drive but the BBQ is worth the ride! [clap] [bow_down]

bee cave road to 428 and double back to 455.  you don't need to slab it on 377 old man.  you need more time out.

I think 428 runs from Denton over to Celina doesn't it? Sorry the only Bee Cave Road I know is in Austin, TX. ;D How else do you get from Pilot Point to Tioga other than 377?

the long way around from 455 to 121 there's a connector past Preston and then double-back.  Or you can go West via 922, 3002, 455 and a short sprint on 35 or further west to avoid 35 altogether.  in summary, there are ways.

Guess you need to drag me along next time you go that route. [thumbsup] As long as there's Clark's BBQ involved of course!! [clap]

don't know yet but I'm taking that day off.  I should have my parts back from the powder coater and installed so the S4 is going for a spin, otherwise I'll steal the wife's bike.

Weather should be nice on Friday. I need to check my kitchen point account. Should be full after the outside/inside cleaning I did for the in-law Easter invasion. [thumbsup] [moto]

I had some time today so I ran 455 east out of the Forestburg area all the way to 75.  The road surface east of Preston Road all the way into Weston (the section with all the twisty bits) is A+.  But it's a good news/bad news kind of situation; the good news is the road surface is recently repaved with freshly painted center and shoulder lines.  The bad news is the speed limit is 55!  (And I don't remember this road being so narrow  [bang]  [laugh] )

Once 455 tee'd into Weston, I turned south through town and then on towards 75 on whatever road that is... Sucks is all I know.  Really crappy section of road there.

455, though, is in the best condition I've seen in years  [thumbsup]

Thanks for the update. Next time you're up that way, try FM 697 between Sherman & Whitewright if you haven't already.

we did that road towards Sherman a couple of weeks ago and it was FUN FUN FUN.  I haven't been on it in years.  Watch out for some turns though as the surface has buckled.  I should have warned Dan but he didn't much give a shit trying to catch the Squids.

If I remember correctly that road is part of Swanny's Casino Run ride. You're right, it is a very nice twisty road indeed... for North Texas that is.

I remember one time we were all eating at a local hamburger shack in Sherman on a Swanny ride. It looked good with lots of local cars around it so we stopped. And it was good by the way! [thumbsup] As I was talking to the spousal unit outside on the cell a Sherman PD squad car slowly drove by checking out the bikes, then stopped and backed up. I'd finished my call so I approached the officer and asked him if everything was OK and if he needed something. He said he was just admiring the bikes and mentioned we didn't look local. Which I interpreted as he realized he hadn't ticketed/arrested us before. [laugh] The last thing he said before he drove off was that we really should hit 697 (he also had a local slang name for it which I have forgotten) on the way out of town and that it was a really nice bike road. Which I also interpreted as "yeah, you guys go right ahead and check it out while me and three other cops set up radar traps on all the straight aways"!!!! [laugh]

He was right, it is a really nice road and actually, no he wasn't waiting for us! [clap] But there was a crashed ZX6 Ninja parked on the oustide of a turn. I assume the rider was seeking medical attention in Sherman. :P

Thanks for the road update Lisa. That's good to hear that some County Commissioner finally got his brother in law to re-pave that road. It has sucked for a really long time. Even made the awful roads in Dallas look decent. :P

That's also the section of road where I got my only bike speeding ticket in 1988 on my then new GSXR750. 88 in a 55 coming out of a turn. I was lucky. I was running 120-130 on the straight leading into that turn. I'm glad they nailed me where they did. [moto]
