Well I decided to take the afternoon off to go take some test rides over at BMW of Ft. Worth. I tried both the K1300S and the S1000R. The K bike was a lot more refined than mine and had some of the niggling issues of the earlier models ironed out. That being said, it was almost too refined and lacked a lot of the visceral excitement I get from the '05. It's still an awesome bike, but it didn't make me want to trade mine for it.
The S1000R on the other hand is an amazing machine that had me trying to justify a way to own it. "This could totally work as a commuter bike. I could endure long distances with this. if I do it just right, I could strap a tent and bag on the back for touring trips. Maybe if I work out more, my body could handle the stiff suspension and race-swept ergos." Seriously, I rode it for about 30 minutes and the whole time I was fighting with my logical brain trying to shut it up just long enough to get that bike into my garage. I won't bore you with any sort of tired cliches or adjectives... I don't have the language skills to do it justice. I can definitely say that this is the most "off-the-hook" speed I've ever experienced matched with the brakes and traction control to help keep things sane.
You have just discovered the #1 reason I don't do test rides or demo days. It's like drug dealers handing out free crack! [laugh] "Here take this rocket powered bike for a test ride. Go ahead, we won't mind. Ride as long as you'd like. No rev or speed limit and no ride along staffer. Just you, the bike, the open road and the throttle. Come on, it can't hurt." [evil]
Bastards! [bang]
Good point Fastwin. AMS Alv twice let me take a demo
hyper home for 695 service. Last time I looked I got
the S version, full Termi and cams. I love the dang
thing though ;D

Yeah, now that you mention it, the sales guy was all too happy for me to spend a lot of time on them.
I can't imagine having that bike as a daily rider and not just for comfort reasons. It just begs to be throttled and I could see myself with a pocketful of speeding tickets in no time flat. I was amazed to have made it back to the dealership without incident. [moto] ;D
The coolest thing though was when I got back on my K-bike and it felt awesome; like that's what I was looking for the whole time. I came home and washed her. Apologies were made, tears were shed and vows were renewed. [thumbsup]
Tears? Vows? Just buy it [evil]
(And then let me ride it)
Nothing like a good bike wash and detail to renew bonds with your favorite scooter. [thumbsup]
