Title: New from KY (pics)
Post by: Ursoboostd on April 19, 2010, 03:57:35 AM
Just bought a 2000 Monster Dark 750. I'm a new rider and having a blast riding it!  I would like to do a couple mods and some direction from people with experience would be greatly appriciated.  I would like a tach.  Any suggestions on a gauge cluster?  Think I want to chop the rear.  Is Competition Werks the best kit?  Do they make kits for different headlights for my model?  I also need a riding jacket.  Any suggestions?  Thanks a ton for any help.  Here's some pics.         -Wade-

Go intro post with pix!

Well there's plenty of info and knowledgeable folks here that can address your questions.

There's a gear  section (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=6.0) for your jacket question. The tail chop question is probable an Accessory and Mods (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=5.0) sort of question, though the Tutorials (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=54.0) might have something too. For the tach question, that's a bit of Tech (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=4.0) and acc & mods. People have added tachs to older monster before, and even 100% replaced the gauge clusters, so you should be able to get some help there.

And last, welcome

Welcome, that's a great looking 750! [thumbsup]

I agree, search or post up in Accessories & Mods (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=5.0) for suggestions on the tach, tail chop, and lights.

Besides the Gear (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=6.0) section, I suggest checking out WebBikeWorld (http://www.webbikeworld.com/Reviewed-motorcycle-products/Products.htm) for all sorts of gear reviews.

Good luck with the mods and we're looking forward to seeing your updates. [beer]

I have an '01 750, great bike!!    [thumbsup]
The "chop" is a good start. It really changes the look. If you plan on doing it yourself look in the tutorials section, I believe there is a step by step with pics. After doing that you're gonna want new turn signals. Ebay is a good place for those, or you can support our sponsors. I think both Monsterparts and Motowheels have aftermarket signals. You can probably get rid of those reflectors on the forks. Easy enough to do, a hair drier and some elbow grease work best.

When it comes to the headlight, there isn't a "kit" per se. It's more about fitment. There are some folks here that have headlights from other bikes like KTM, just do a search on headlights and I'm sure you'll come up with some results. Here is a set from Monsterparts, if you wanna go the dual route....

Otherwise you can paint the bucket and ring. Check that here...http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35615.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35615.0)

There are quite a few people here that have 750s, including myself. Ask around for more input and by all means, feel free to PM me. I'm not the most tech savy but I will try to help as much as I can.

Oh yeah, and welcome!!

Duc750 thanks for the warm welcome and the info!  I love your painted headlight mod.  I've also found my exhaust seems out of place to me.  There's all this matte black and then POW there is a shiny exhaust.  I've been lookin around and fell in love with the look of the ex-box exhaust, but damn they are pricey!

Yeah, I love the Ex-box as well. Just outta my price rage at the moment.

If you're not that in to the stainless you could always paint those as well, for now anyway. You'll have to remove the D&D badge or mask the hell out of it. Here is a thread for color matching the "dark" paint job for ducati as it's almost impossible to find an exact match.

I thought about painting them.  I'm just afraid when I move on to another exhaust my painted exhaust wont be worth crap.    -Wade-

That might be the case.

My $.02, keep the stock exhaust even if you get an aftermarket setup. At some point you might wanna get a different/bigger bike and might need to sell the 750 to do so. Put the stock exhaust back on the bike, sell it, use the money to buy a new bike. You'll still have the aftermarket exhaust from the 750 you can sell to fund mods on the new bike!!

Remember, not everyone is in the market for a 2000 750. But, if they have a stock 600, 750, or 900 they will at some point be on the hunt for an aftermarket exhaust. The point is, if you ever want a new bike you'll probably get more money for the aftermarket setup by itself than trying to sell it with a bike.

Bike looks great! This site is a great place to spend hours drooling over everyones mods and upgrades. I know that I have spent plenty of time searching trying to find the next thing to change on my bike.
