Picked up my 696 on Friday. I love it so far. Good complement to my 996S.
Here's a few pics. I tried to take some different than the typical pics:

Yesterday I removed the plastic shroud over the top of the front cylinder head. Looks much better with the front cylinder exposed. I'll add some pics of that once I have Termis on it.
Cheers,
Owen
Nice pics [thumbsup]
Quick question. I finally managed to see one in person last week at the local dealer. I noticed that there was a plastic part that drapes over the top half of the emissions cannister. Is this the "plastic shroud" you mentioned.
Removing the emissions can is very common but I think it would look strange with the shroud still there.
Just curious.
Congrats on the new bike 8)

Great photos!
Don't wait for the Termis to show us the bike without the shroud [thumbsup]

I was wondering the same thing when I saw one at the dealer.
Nice pics! Keep 'em coming
More, more, more! :D

Thanks!
Yes. That's the plastic shroud I removed. The emissions can is gone too. It was a pretty simple operation. Only tricky part was that I had to remount the horn and "voltage rectifier." I didn't spend too much time on it as I was excited to see what it would look like when done. There are some fairly exposed wiring harnesses under there that I wire tied a section of inner tube around. Kinda hackish, but seems functional. Eventually, I'd like to cut a plastic bit to shield instead.
[thumbsup]
Ah! The emissions nonsense.
I removed that from my 620 in California. Fortunately, we don't get that in the UK.
I'd thought you'd done something with the airbox shroud.
Nice, lets see some more shots [popcorn]
Nice pictures, thanks for sharing. [thumbsup]
Can you give a quick description on how to remove that canister?
Post some more pics man.
I need to see what it looks like with the aftermarket cans on there and the strange space shuttle looking stock cans removed. [beer]

Go to the DucSea site. THey've got the dark with the termi cans. Looks good.

Could you be more specific? I don't see it anywhere...
Here's some garage shots of the uncovered cylinder head:

Sweet [thumbsup]
wow, they really moved the voltage regulator forward on this one... makes sense though

Pretty much where they put it in 1993. They have been hiding it under the seat lately though, haven't they?
It was mounted to the inside of the black plastic cover. Mounting it up there was the simplest thing at the time. Though I would like to relocate it to somewhere more concealed. Get it out of sight.
[thumbsup] Sweet bike dood. I don't know why everyone is complaining about these bikes. I love the new look.
Ah! So not just the emissions gubbings. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah I'm a fan of the new styling.
There was much debate on Oz Monsters about it.
I see the potential in Mods, it already has a shorty tail.
Can that plate holder be removed or is it vital to the indicators etc....
Cheers
Matty...
haha...the cylider cover is the only part I like on the 696
I am thinking of getting something like this for my 695 to get a more straight line in the front part
But I dont know how it will affect the cooling...
Several more pics with Termis on now. The Termis are beautiful and loud as hell.

I concur. Glorious.
Wish I can take pics like you. Nice 696! [thumbsup]
I think the termis look better without the heat shields. [thumbsup] Thats how I'm gonna install mine!

Me too. I was thinking of cutting of the heat shield mount welded to pipe. Don't want to screw it up though...
Nice bike man, I'm wonderin what these would look like with an ex-box style exhaust with a header routed lower on the engine
ugh, i am not feeling so good [puke]
the ron [evil]
Ron Ron Ron. There isnt anything wrong with the 696.Just wait until someone really gets modding on one of these. Personally,,, I never really liked alot of the "Stock" monsters out of the crate. Mine included.
I like those Termi's man. Chop the Tail ;D

[laugh] [laugh] LOL, I was waiting for your comment. You are too funny. You remind me of the guy who is homophobic because he's in denial. I think you secretly want a 696 and maybe already have one but keep it in the closet. I suppose there wont be any pics huh? J/K--keep it comming the Ron. [cheeky]
Ahhhh.... the ron, the amount of time you spend on this 696 really makes me think you've had one on order for months.....
You have haven't you!!!
Me thinks you're waiting to unveil a seriously mad modded 696.......
chopped tail
chopped cans or termi kit -baffels
powder coated pipes
lots a carbon
custom paint
Hmmmmm......
Com-on Ron you know you wanna do it.
finally got to see wht is under the cylinder black box cover.
my question is how do you fit an oil cooler on the bike now?
Not a fan of the exhaust as is poses a lot of problems for maintenance. This thing could benefit a great deal from a set of boomtubes. It would clean up the bike real nice.
I removed the evap can and had off the shroud and I see there are welded on tabs on the frame that aren't being used and I wondered if they were for that purpose.
I'd bet they're for the oil cooler mount for future models..

I'm working on an oil cooler kit. should be ready in a few weeks. It will use the frame tabs at the top and retain the black shroud to cover it.

Please disregard my lack of knowledge...but what maintenance???? Still waiting on my 696 and thinking of getting the termis next year, I would appreciate the info.
Thanks!
Welcome and congrats on the new bike! It looks great and you're really good with the pics! Keep them coming!
Enjoy it & ride safe. [moto]
