supposed to be sunny and in the 80s this weekend in jerez
The Spanish turd will need to figure out the Ohlins quickly. I think Lorenzo might surprise some people.
Is Lorenzo really a surprise at this point? He's an established top 3 world talent.

He's still "hurt" and people had written him off until mid season. I kinda though he was playing opposum (SP?). Granted, compared to some other tracks Qatar might not be the worst physically, but you can tell that he's strong enough to be at least close to his 2009 season.
judging by his performance at the end of the last race, i'd say he's just fine

I'm holding my breath (not literally) for a coupla more races, but it really seems like Nicky is back. God, I'd love to see two Ducs on the podium. When was the last time that happened?
Spies is going to find at least a second as the weekend goes on (not counting qualifying when he's on soft tires).
Its nice to see Nicky doing well. I'd love to see him consistantly fight for podiums this season.

that much (other than his rookie year on that Honda. Yoikes. :o ) It's just been a bad run--as you said--over the last two races. I still say that Rossi is all up in his wheelhouse.

Yeah Stoner has never been slow by any stretch of the imagination, and truthfully he's been extremely consistant barring his rookie year. While I think dumping a bike 3 times when holding a comfortable lead is a bit of a head scratcher, its pretty good considering just about every top rider crashes a couple times a season at some point. I think the dude's only fault is not knowing when to back off. Despite his claims of crashing because he slowed down, I've only seen him dump it while trying to set the world on fire by posting stupid fast laps.... eh well if you don't count the warmup debacle at Valencia.
Just watched FP2. Lorenzo is blazing fast and dropped a bunch of consistant 39's with a 39 flat thrown in. He's got to be the early favorite to take the victory. Stoner/Pedro/Rossi all were running consistant low 40's. Dovi dropped in a good quick lap, but wasn't running quite fast enough consistantly to hang with the "podium 4." I think we'll be in for a hell of a race.
Rossi seems to be struggling on the back half with the linked rights. Probably the shoulder giving him some trouble there?
Bring on Qualy!
Incredible qualifying. Should be a good race tomorrow.

spies out w/ a bad front tire was a downer, though.
Great race. It was nice to see Hayden finally finished in front of a still racing Stoner. Lorenzo definitely isn't afraid to take a chance and shove his bike into some really tight spots either.
Lorenzo has a career in NASCAR [roll]
Can't blame Dani for staying wide, else he was going down the next time Whoregay hit him...
I've seen aggressive racing, but I think this was a bit over the top - maybe one bump/close call, but after the second time they hit it was obvious (to me, fwiw) that Lorenzo was passing too dangerously, imo.

if you think that's over the top, stay far away from watching british superbike.
fwiw, i have no problem with the racing today, especially at the front.

This is the kind of racing we look for imo. I found myself really rooting for pedro on the last few laps. I think he showed some mettle by sticking to his lines and forcing his will on Lorenzo. Ultimately Lorenzo had too much pace, but Dani didn't just lay down like we've seen him do in the past. Another solid result for Nicky, I think he's officially back. I was waiting for Lorenzo to drown in the lake after he found getting out wasn't going to happen [laugh]. That was epic.

Uh... the second time Dani lifted up Jorge on purpose. Neither we're giving and inch and Dani was using racecraft to force Jorge wide... It was nothing untoward as evidenced by them shaking hands afterwards.
Fwiw, 15 finishers is pretty weak imo, they need at least 4 more bikes on the grid.
Trying not to look at the race results as I post!!

In the post race press conferance, the three riders were asked about the overtaking, and all three pretty much gave the same answer. Its just part of motorcycle racing and you have to attempt those maneuvers if you're in the fight on the last few laps. They are out there to do what it takes to win.
As far as more bikes in the field, I don't really know if putting more backmarkers on the grid just to fill it out does much good, but obviously the 2012 rule changes will most likely be taking care of that.

Speed had the race on live this morning, and they are also replaying it again today at some point along with the support classes.
I watched it on motogp.com, but also have the races recorded too.

Awesome race by Lorenzo. [bow_down] The battle between him and Pedrosa was super!
Great to see Hayden back! [thumbsup] [thumbsup]
the two top spaniards battling for the win, in jerez. are you kidding me? i'm surprised they weren't out there with swords.
incredible racing. bravo to pedro for holding him off that long. and george.. wow. this new race strategy is make the beast with two backsin impressive.
spies issue was not a bad tire. some "front end" issue, but not a bad tire.

Who's Kenny Hoye? He was great to watch for most of the race. Why was Elias hitting the tail of his bike? Did he want Hoye to tuck in behind him so they could try to gap everyone?

Kenny Noyes? He's an American racer who's been running in the Spanish Superbike races for a while.

Wow...Yeah! That Moto2 race was unbelievable. Kenny Noyes was awesome. I really thought he had a chance to win. I dont know what happened towards the end but I think his tires must have been shot...
I actually thought the Moto2 race was a little better than the wsbk assen race...

You know I watched the Speed telecast live in the morning and thought the mid-race was pretty boring til I watch the Eurosport edition. The Gresini twin Marcos were having a knock down drag out with de Puniet & Kallio mostly watching from a safe distance. a damn good day to be a spaniard in Spain.

Finally watched the race last night. The GP race was great. The Moto2 race was phenomenal. I was worried when we lost the 250's but the racing is speaking for itself.
So Bridgestone has confirmed no problems with Spies front tire and Tech-3 has said no issues with the front end on Ben's bike. I wonder what really happened? Did Ben lose his cojones with a bit of slide on the front? I was under the impression one of his gifts is that he handles front/rear slides very well and has no problem with the bike when it gets a bit out of shape. I understand it was early in the race, but he wasn't the only rider with complaints of the front end trying to fold. Mystery!

huh. and the data showed the bike was going all wonky. weird.
A guy on the Wera forum noted that Bridgestone complained loudly that the tire was good, but Ohlins said nothing.

Hmmm.
Stoner lost the front end in Qatar.
Ben has some funny business going on with the front end on his bike at Jerez.
Didn't Capirossi lose the front as well?
Rossi suffering with a lack of rear grip, perhaps meaning he's biased his setup to get front grip?
From the linked article:
However, Tohru Ubukata, manager of tire development for Bridgestone, is certain that the front tire on Spies' bike was not the problem.
"We have checked the construction and rubber of the front tire and cannot find any difference," Ubukata said.
"The tire has been sent to Japan for further checks but we will not find any difference; we did all the fundamental checks at the track."
I'm not buying that level of certainty from a track inspection.

Casey and Ducati both said that they had less front grip because the new long bang motor gives them more rear grip, which pushes the front more.
Casey lost the front going into the corner, no throttle involved, IIRC.
Pretty sure for Capi as well.
