Title: Hey DDan - Fakie Dainese?
Post by: Slide Panda on April 30, 2010, 04:50:04 AM
Though this is directed at Dianese Dan, I figured that the general population would benefit from the answer - so:

In scouring the interwebs - I came across these ebay items. Both are from the same seller... in Hong Kong (hullo red flag). So I'm figuring they are fakies, but good enough that I'm not 100% sure. So Dan, what say you?

Said listings:

It's pretty obvious from the pictures to someone who works with the product every day, but I have also seen these in person as a poor individual who couldn't pass up a deal brought them in to the store.  Absolute garbage.

The first link was an obvious Chinese knock-off.  The second one looks like they took pics of a legit Flanker suit and armor... my guess is what you'd get in the mail is not what's pictured.

My father-in-law does business in China on a regular basis.  Based on the stories he's told, I'd avoid ordering anything out of China, especially on eBay.

The kicker is... if you actually go to Beijing in person, you can get some great stuff on the cheap in the markets there.  My wife has some stuff she bought in China that's actually pretty nice.  But the knockoffs and the stuff they make specifically to ship over here are complete garbage.

If you are familar with the real product then the differences stick out like the collar , the cuffs, the stretch panels, and the price should be the 1st indication that it's NOT Dainese.

Go to the Dainese .com site , click on the picture of a sport bike and a short jacket , then search and you will see especially how Dainese makes their Jackets .

For the most part , the collars have the same style , the cuffs have the same closure style, the non leather fabric is shown in such a way that it is pretty consistently the same for Jackets to Suits.

Also look at how they do their Titanium shoulder protectors. Once again they are pretty much the same for Jackets and Suits.

Just familiarize yourself w, what Dainese leather and Textile gear looks like and then if you go looking on Ebay you'll be more able to spot the rip offs.

Older Dainese gear will be more of a challenge.

another option would be to hit up Dainese Dan and skip eBay altogether.  Dan is kind enough to give us a crack at closeouts, and I can't imagine anyone being able to undercut his regular prices on current stuff, so there's really no point in taking a chance, unless you are looking for something used, in which case, you should go to the SPAM sections on the boards so you could at least gauge if you want to trust the seller.

I've bought fake Dainese pants by mistake once. They lasted about 2 months and started ripping at every stitch. Looked pretty good but materials and stitching  were terrible.

Cheers.

i also got a pair of fake dainese pants and they are so poorly made i cant even sit on my bike with them on.

My real D jacket is supple and flexes in the right places and i forget im wearing a riding jacket sometimes
(perf so double nice in the summer, although those perforations really take a beating with use)
