Post by: ridingrabbit on May 10, 2010, 11:13:53 AM
Hello all,

I'm looking for a good (and fair priced) motorcycle mechanic in Dallas,tx. anyone have any good recommendations??  nothing against the dealerships but i'm not rich by any-means, and I cant afford the shop prices :-[ . nothing is wrong with my bike and I am somewhat mechanically inclined, however there are just some things I would rather not "toy with" on my bike !!

Rabbit,

Are you aware of dfwducati.com? It is another board made up of a lot of the same people you'll find in here. There are several folks getting together this weekend for a "do it yourself with help" "Tech Day" at a members house. I wish like hell I could go but I will be out of town. Look into the other board and go to the "TECH" section.

You will get this same advice from anyone on this board:

Stuart Rust (Mansfield, TX) 817-899-6261. Used to be the head tech for Advanced Motorsports for years. Probably one of the top Ducati mechanics in the country. He semi-retired from AMS and is now doing work out of his home shop. If I had a complicated Ducati related issue I would see no one else. Nothing wrong with AMS but as you said you wanted to avoid shop prices and Stuart does charge less than AMS. There is no one better.

Randy McCarter (Keller, TX) 817-706-8870. Randy will be the first to say he is no Stuart Rust when it comes to Ducatis  but he is an AWESOME mechanic. I bet he has worked on over half of the bikes owned by members of this board. He has moved around some and now (like Stuart) works out of his home shop. He has worked on just about all of my bikes, Ducati and Jap Superbikes. He is a perfectionist... in a good way! He has always charged me far less than he should for the work he has done. And the work he performed was flawless! [thumbsup] For tire changes he's the best and for general bike work I'd go with Randy. He will be up front with you and tell you what he is not comfortable doing on Ducatis. But he is easily up to snuff on 80% of the work you'd need done on your Duc. Just my two cents.
