Title: New from New York
Post by: marcuserroneous on May 12, 2010, 10:31:57 AM
Hello all,

I'm Mark from Long Island, New York

I just picked up a 2010 Monster 696 Dark.  No buyers remorse here.  Absolutely love the bike.

I am 36.  I recently got my NYS MC License.  I have been riding off-road for most of my life and still have a 1994 Kawasaki KDX-200 that I bought in 2000.  My street experience is limited to riding brothers/friends bikes on short jaunts over the years.  I have five brothers and a sister and many bikes have been owned in my family.

The day I took my bike home, I chopped the OEM rear fender with a skillsaw (I am not shy)  and it looks great.  I added the pazzo short levers this week.  (I'll add some posts with pics later)

I find that the stock throttle tube is worse than the one on my dirtbike and I intend to purchase the G2 Ergonomics Tamer Throttle Tube.  I'd like to smooth out the low end throttle since I find myself stuck in 25-30 MPH traffic often here on long island.

This seems like a nice Monster dedicated website.  Hopefully I can learn some new things here.

ETA: CF Termi's are on order!

Welcome Mark and congrats on the 696! [thumbsup]

Looking forward to those pictures. ;D

As herm says, make sure you check in with your local board, NYMMC (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=28.0).

As far as the low end and riding in traffic is concerned, have you looked into making any gearing changes?  Might make things more pleasant for you.

Have fun, ride safe. [moto]

Gearing is another option.  I may change a sprocket.  Thanks.

Hello Mark-

Where did you buy the bike from?  Was the pricing flexible at all (from a dealer i assume)?

Thanks
