Title: Thoughts?: Shoei X-11 vs. RF-1000
Post by: CDawg on June 03, 2008, 01:23:06 PM
I've narrow down the field to 2 helmets I really like as my next replacement: X-11 and RF-1000

I like the additional vents on the X-11, but like the graphics better on the RF-1000.  The RF-1000 is cheaper.  I know the X-11 fits my head well, but have not had a chance to try on the RF-1000.  What are people's thoughts on the pro's and cons between these 2 helmets?

It's been a while since I've tried on an RF-1000 but I seem to remember them running a bit tighter than the X-11. One + for the RF over the X is that it actually has ear pockets. The X-11 has notoriously shallow ear pockets which makes most helmet speakers impossible to use. I've got an X-11 right now and since its time is almost up I'm looking to RF-1000s now since I want to run speakers in my helmet.

Not much help in deciding but you've nailed the difference between the two essentially.  extra vents of the x-11 and the rf-1000 graphics are better and it's cheaper.

I've  been riding in the x-11 because I think it fits my head just a tad better (could just be the new pads v my worn rf-1000) and it's hot here in Carolina and the venting is nice (not that the rf-1000 is hot -- i wore it as my summer helmet last year).  The RF is now my backup helmet.

I got a scratch on mine (gloss black) so I'm considering getting it painted -- I'd love to have Troy Lee Designs put the Yellow Zemke graphics on it to match my RF-1000 but that's probably cost prohibitive.

I bought a RF-1000 as my first helmet about 3 weeks ago, I have to say I highly recommend it.

First the vents on the RF works really freaking well; you can really tell the differences with them closed or open.
The wind nosie isn't to bad, on highway speeds for me is bearable.
The RF is pretty light, most of the time I dont really notice the weight of it on my head.

I can never justify the price of the X-11 compared to the RF-1000, so I ended up buying the RF.
I have tried on the X-11, I didn't felt any real differences in the fit, but that's probably because I got a funky head shape.

I hope this would help you in your decision process!

I just went and tried on an RF1000 at a local store yesterday, and ordered one online tonight. It fit me well and I liked the feel of it.

I gave up an Arai RX7rr for my RF1000 and absolutely love it.  The X-11 (like the RX7rr) is designed as a race helmet= flows more air= louder.  The RF1000 on the other hand is relatively quiet.  Some say very quiet. /shrug  Go try them on of course but I agree with Razgriz on the price analysis.  For the money you are much better served with the RF.

I went with the RF-1000... Fit right, looked right... Price was right... In Tampa this hot spot, the RF-1000 seems to flow air well... What more could I ask for?

I got a scratch on the top of one of my solid color helmets from the door way- I'm 6' 5", and I put a Dainese decal over it. I like Decals on my helmets , especially the solids.

ive run a rf-1000 for almost 3 years now here in central coastal florida,
fits me good and plenty cool, vents work great for defogging, etc....
her x-11 seemed to fit her smaller head better and have no complaints about the heat or noise....
seems maybe the x-11 for smaller/ narrower heads, rf-1000 for larger/ "normal" heads....

Road with the RF-1000 for about 12k miles with no complaints. All the miles were in Texas and it had plenty of ventilation. I now have the X-11 with about 1500 miles on it.  The only difference I have noticed is the ventilation. The X-11 vents a bit more and is a little louder. I also think the vents are easier to operate on the X-11. The top vents on the RF were hard to operate with gloves on.
The fit was the same on both for me. The X-11 does come with a "raised" chin deflector if that matters.

Thanks everyone for the great inputs!  I ended up ordering a solid X-11 from www.motodepot.com (discount code: motodepot) because they had a great price that eased the sting of the price difference.  It should be here on Wednesday!

good choice.

i tried on the rf1000 for a coupel of days the tighter bottom opening was kilin gme with taking it off and on even with pullin ghte helmet apart when removing it, it was bad for me.

so i got the x-11 has a slightly larger bottom openign making taking on and off easier, also flows air a lot nicer. the only thing with the x-11 that i dont' like is that it has a high pitched whistling sound when on, even with earplugs in you can hear this.. but others said this does not happen, but i can live with it great for summer weather.
