That article really puts Spies in a bad light.  I've lost some respect for the man.

I don't know what his mom's credentials are, but that's a good argument to go with a reputable agent with experience in the business rather than family.  It sounds like if he had kept the books clean, they might have found the corporation liable without extending personal liability to Spies.

the way i see it, if doug couldn't get the motogp deal done, he shouldn't be profiting from it.

the "reputable agent with experience" apparently couldn't close the motogp deal.

I meant that he got bad advice about how to run his business.  His corporation didn't shield him from liability, apparently.

Ben's not an employee of Yamaha Corp. He's a free agent, a principal of Speez whatever LLC. It's not Yamaha's place to shield him from liability...they're his customer, not his employer.

Ben should fire his Mom not the agent! This has got mommy's fingerprints all over it. I have never read anything warm and IZ_ about her... ever. :P pregnant dogy, controlling stage mom has always been the impression I have gotten.

This is what happens when you let amateurs run your business.  It's not hard to keep the liability shield for a corporation.  Just draw a salary, don't comingle funds, have a in-name Board of Directors and have a for-show annual meeting with some taking some minutes.  It's a teensy hassle for a shit-ton of protection ($1.9m in this case).
