watched early this morning Hayden went out early, but Stoner finished 4th so not a complete wash for Ducati.

Which race did you watch? The one I watched didn't even show the front three that much. Lorenzo 4 secs behind Pedrosa and Dovisioso over 2 secs behind Lorenzo. Pretty exciting race for 4th though.

yup... [clap]
I guess there was a short tussle between Lorenzo & Dovi but it didn't last long. If Jorge wins the Championship this year it might make a huge difference in who races on what teams next year.
Might?
Anyone watch the Moto2 Mugello race...it was pretty good, the winner pretty much checked out, but there was a helluva battle for 2nd...
I had it set to record, but my DVR was full from the time I was gone. Next weekend, my pretty.

Just an uniformed guess, I guess. Common belief is that the teams will be set after the Laguna Seca race. I dunno. Most folks are pretty certain that Stoner will move to Honda and that Nicky will stay with Ducati. Apart from that I don't think anyone knows shit, really.

Nicky almost got there! Great Race!!
I was pulling for him all the way, too bad he couldn't hold on to third...good thing is, Spies made the podium...

I'd say that the race was pretty good overall but not quite like last weeks race. I'm going to watch the Moto2 in a few minutes and will catch WBSK later.
Moto2 was good...
We enjoyed the 1st race for WSBK. The fights between Biaggi, Corser & Cheka are great. Funny, isn't the race world just like all the recent magazine tests?? Moto2, not so much this time unless it got really good at the end but we didn't watch all the way through. I'll catch the 2nd WSBK tonight.
WBSK race 2 was fantastic. Swapping paint all over the place. Max will be tough to beat this year.
I've missed the last several WSBK races while moving about. Sure would be nice if they were set up like MotoGP with the races on their site.

TdF has been pretty rockin' indeed, first three days especially. Though today's finish was great. I never thought the breakaway was going to make it until Gutierrez broke away from the breakaway. He sucked me in, he did, and then still didn't make it. That's what I get for hoping, eh?

Yup...but I want to know what happened to Mr. Hayden, from 5th to 7th in a blink of an eye... :(
Lots of stuff happened in a blink of an eye in those races (Part 1, before big crash and Part 2, after big crash) but Nicky didn't lose 5th place that fast. Huge kudos to Hayden though to get there from 15th on the start!! Why don't they show that?
I'd have to watch again but at the restart I think it was Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Dovisioso, Stoner, Hayden and then Rossi? ? ?
Then Rossi went through Hayden, Stoner went through Dovi while Pedrosa, the punk, went around Jorge. Rossi got by Dovi which then put Dovi in 5th. Yes?/No? That put Hayden into the fight with Simoncelli and Barbera(?) and what a fight that was!
I thought the end was great. Stoner put a Rossi move on Rossi. [laugh] [clap] [laugh]

But at the end of the day, Stoner got into Rossi's head and came out on top. Bravo for that, even though he's still a little douche-bag...

My daughter, her fiance, and his sister are at Laguna Seca for the MotoGP...she called me this morning to tell me she got Vale's & Nicky's autographs on a Ducati hat...she and the sister, both in their 40s, are running around like a couple of teen moto groupies getting all the rider autographs and having their pictures taken with the riders...they even got a pic with Hayden's mother and father... ;D
There you go. Rossi's signature on a Ducati hat. That alone should tell you all need to know. [laugh] [thumbsup]
Interesting chit chat in the Silly Season thread about Rossi going to Ducati. Apparently Ducati's CEO confirmed the deal in an interview with Cycle World, just to have Ducati's PR guys come out and deny it a few hours later...

Great WSBK racing yesterday. Double great that Ducati did so well on their home track. I would have rather had Haslam hold on to second in the first race rather than run it off the track and super boo on the engine dumping in the second race. It would have made Max work harder at Magny-Cours for the title. Good on Max anyway! Checha will be riding for Ducati satellite next year and it'll be interesting who they add as they dumped Byrne. Maybe Fabrizio or Haslam? Haga is slated to run for Aprilia.
There's been rumors floating around that Haslam will be riding the other spot.

Haslam signed with BMW so it'll be Corser and him next year. Woo Hoo!!
DAMN!! Shitstorm over in the BMW pits in WSBK.
Who knows what goes on in the minds of the Motorrad people? One race day to go, this weekend, and they pull something like this. Maybe they won't even be at the track and can save themselves time & money. If, as they say, the non-Germans haven't even been at the factory for meetings like they were supposed to then this is clearly a shot to get the attention of everyone that they mean business and it is in true German fashion. Will we have some good WSBK racing this weekend?? I guess that remains to be seen. Both MotoGP and WSBK will be on.

Ducati announced that they would a while back. That's one of the reasons why everyone was getting ready to hammer Yamaha, from a PR point of view, if they refused to let Vale test the Duc.
Don't much care for him, but you've got to give Lorenzo his due after dominating again today while setting the record for MotoGp wins in a season...and hat's off to Ben Spies for his 4th place on a dislocated ankle...[thumbsup]
Amazing racing in the first half of the MotoGP. Especially Lorenzo hanging on after he drove into Simoncelli's bike. Too bad Nicky crashed out. He's been riding pretty good lately. I was kind of hoping the 4 man alien express would have stayed together all the way to the end of the race but I guess tire/engine management kicks in after a bit.

Great racing today. Both Race 1 & Race 2 but especially Race 2.
One thing I really don't like is that, apart from Biaggi's bike & Checha's bike and one other yellow Ducati, all of the bikes have really similar paint schemes and it's super hard to tell who's who. With the exception of the Factory Kawasakis and their mean green scheme.

Been watching all the practice sessions from Qatar. Damn those Hondas are flying...
They still have to finish.
Oh, I know. Stoner has been pulling some really fast laps though, and he's pulling them off consistently. I think he's going to be VERY hard to beat this year, especially when you consider how well HRC already had that chassis so well sorted.
The Hondas look really strong this year, I'll give you that. I expect Dovi to do much better this year too. Spies is looking real good too. It's the last year for the 800's so it'd only be fitting for Honda to get the Manufacturer's Title. Ducati is looking to the future and I think everything they will do this year is only groundwork for next year and beyond. Somehow they never figured out how to work the smaller engine & chassis.

Douchenozzle Mcmake the beast with two backsnugget better watch out. Honda's got a new golden boy now, and he just might find himself off the squad if he doesn't pull his shit together. Especially after he was photographed having a blast out on the town, then came on tv the next day (wearing a sling) saying how he's not fit enough to race...
A few weeks ago I had posted up in Racing & Trackdays that Dovi wasn't exactly chopped liver and someone replied that he was. Said that after this season he could be looking for a new ride. I don't know about that now. There's Daniboy and Simo, who can't race consistently. I'd take Dovi over either one of those two now.

Ben Spies has been impressive from day 1, as a rookie last year, in the MotoGp circuit. Looks like he would have taken pole position if Capirossi didn't crash ahead of him, causing yellow flags to go up. "Side show" Simoncelli is looking strong, earning pole position...hopefully he'll break his stupid habits during the race.
Here's the scoop from the Ducati press team...
QuoteNicky Hayden had some difficulty finding a good rhythm during qualifying for the Assen TT, but a change to a different shock setting helped to improve his feeling with the bike near the end of the session and to finish with the ninth-best time.
After yesterday’s very positive initial outing in the rain during free practice, Valentino Rossi had only two hours to set up his new bike on a dry track and he wasn’t able to replicate yesterday’s performance. Tomorrow he’ll have to start from the eleventh spot on the grid.
Nicky Hayden:
“This morning we were trying to learn the step 2 chassis, but with the rain, we never got to compare back-to-back with the step 1 in similar conditions so, for this afternoon, we went with what we knew. We struggled a bit at the beginning of qualifying, and then when we put in the soft tyres, we also changed to a different shock setting that helped put some temperature in the tyre. I started getting a better feel and going faster, and like always, it would have been nice to get a few more laps. It’s not why we’re on the third row, but when Capirossi crashed, they should have red-flagged the session, because he was in the run-off area of a fast place. We’ve had just about every condition this weekend, so we’ll see what we get tomorrow. It could be a wild race.â€
Valentino Rossi:
“We’re disappointed with qualifying because we had started quite well yesterday, so clearly, we expected things to go better today. We had a decent session this morning, but we weren’t able to improve, so we’ll start eleventh. The rear of the GP11.1 is better than the previous version, but we weren’t able to find a setup that allowed us to bring the tyres up to temperature, and at the moment, that’s making it difficult to find the feeling I need to ride hard and be strong on corner entry. I don’t think we’ve yet learned how to properly adjust the bike, and that’s something we knew could happen since we have so little time available. Still, this all helps us to gather experience for the future, and we have some ideas for tomorrow’s warm-up session that we hope will help us go faster in the race.â€
Ben was very impressive throughout the race and maintained his humility during the press conference. Side Show Simoncelli did it again, and continues to earn his nick name.

Repsol better stick with Stoner & Dovi. Pedrosa? ? What a make the beast with two backsing weenie. Both Crutchlow & Edwards were at it again with broken & stitched collarbones. [thumbsup] Dani? [puke]

Agreed. I think he'll be great to watch in the next season or two ... that's if he learns to match match his aggressive talent and temper it with a touch of maturity. Until then, he'll continue to alienate himself from the MotoGP fans and peers/competition.
The next MotoGP at Autodromo Mugello will be aired on SPEED channel at 2AM on Sunday...channel 1214 if you're on Oceanic. All the racers are raving about the newly re-surfaced track. Unfortunatley, Ducati team doesn't appear to feel strong about their bike set up, BUT...Rossi is considered the most successful rider at Mugello, with 9x victories under his belt (7 of which were MotoGP) . Simoncelli has been posting faster lap times over the Repsol bikes...but something tells me he'll blow it during the race. Hopefully it will be a fun and dry race :-D
Actually a good race today. Nice finish by Dovi!

WSBK and F1 this Sunday...WSBK on Speed as usual, but F1 jumps to Fox for the Silverstone race...
Speed is also showing two AMA races from Mid Ohio later today and two more tomorrow morning just before the WSBK. Often times the AMA Superbikes are more fun to watch than MotoGP and sometimes more fun than FIM.

I believe 1x is an AMA motorcycle race, the other is a AMA dirt bike/moto-cross race. I accidentally DVR's the wrong one before...really ruins the taste of your beer when you sit-down and discover you taped the wrong event.
I hate it when that happens. [beer] [cheeky] I double checked the program guide this morning when I set the recorder and it definitely listed AMA Superbike and Sportbike (Daytona class?) for both races on both days. AMA is a one race per day on Sat & Sun deal. Could be wrong.
Exciting last few laps in race 2...
The AMA Daytona Superbike race 2 on Sunday was absolutely the best race I've seen all year. [thumbsup] [thumbsup] Better than anything WSBK has shown and definitely better than anything MotoGP and Moto2 have come up with.

It's MotoGP time again! Tonight at 0200 on SPEED (1214 / 214 on Oceanic). This championship round moves to Sachsenring, Germany. Stoner has qualified for pole and Rossi will start from the last row, in the 16th position on the grid!
Unfortunately, Rossi has already used 5 of the 6 allocated engines with plenty of races to go ... if he has to go over 6, he will be relegated to the 16th position in the pit lane regardless of where he qualifies. Rossi reportedly "may" go back to the GP11 chassis after the Germany race .... The new chassis on the GP11.1 works well with next year's GP12 (1000cc) as its designed, but not the current 800cc setup.
The following is from motogp.com- "The qualifying session for the German Grand Prix went very differently for Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi. Hayden posted the eighth-best time, four tenths from the first row, after lapping all weekend at a pace that was very close to that of the top riders. The Italian wasn’t able to find a setup that gave him a good feeling, and tomorrow he’ll face an uphill race, starting from the sixteenth spot on the grid."

DAMN! You were right. Andy kicked some serious ass on the climbs. Too bad he couldn't keep it up long enough to take the yellow.
Apparently he fell back some. At one point he was almost 4 mins clear of the field and Liggett had him in yellow for sure. That's OK. It's on the recorder and it will give me an excuse to open a Belgium beer in honor of Andy. [drink] [laugh]

Watching Laguna Seca race live...WOHOOOO!!!!
It was partially exciting for a few laps, watching the fight for 1st & 2nd, but then it was the usual "ho-hum". It was fun watching Ben get past Dovi. I showed Gloria the last few laps of the Daytona class race at Mid Ohio and she agreed that was much more exciting. At least there will be some AMA races at Laguna later tonight.

Another ho-hum MotoGP race. There were a few brief moments when Casey passed Dani and when Ben got past Lorenzo but other than that my God. Bicycle racing is more exciting. At least the AMA XR1200 races were fun. ( Makes you wonder about about going out and getting a Harly XR1200 and buying the LeoVince kit and keeping the lights on. [evil] [evil] )
Actually that's Vance & Hines. No one caught that?
Holy crap!! Lots of racing this weekend.
AMA Superbike & Daytona class on Sat & Sun. These are the last two races of the AMA season and there are tight points. Should be excellent racing! (Actually 4 races in all, one on Sat & Sun for each of the classes)
Moto GP at Misano showing on Speed at 2am (I think) on Sun morning.
World Superbike racing later in the morning on Sunday
Thanks for reminding me to DVR the races. Below is an interesting interview w/ Rossi, posted today. A small comment on his riding style vs Stoner on the Ducati....ongoing tire issues and bike testing restrictions. At the end, he comments on his interest in WSBK. Rossi and Biaggi...those two could set Rome on fire...I doubt their feelings, towards one another, have become friendlier w/ age!

Rossi: I can't ride like Stoner
Friday, 02 September 2011 19:05 by Matteo Aglio
No news is good news? Nothing could be further from the truth in the case of Valentino Rossi and Ducati, as the Italian continues to struggle with front end issues on his Desmosedici. "I'm always saying the same things â€" Rossi admitted with a smile â€" so you could just use one of my old interviews."
Not that we could get off that easy: "Also here the front end is not giving me the confidence that I need, especially while trail braking; I'm losing tons of time there. We are losing two or three tenths a corner." His difficulties only multiply with the harder tire compound. "The Ducati works better with softer compounds, especially compared to the Yamaha. This afternoon we tried the hard rear tire with an eye toward the race, but I had no grip and it was very hard to ride."
At least the softer tires allowed him to record the eleventh fastest lap at the end: "But I was only able to do one quick lap. There was a lot of traffic on track, and I lost time with that. We returned to the setup from Laguna Seca and Brno, and we will continue in this direction. We will make some small modifications to the second bike, but nothing too serious. We need another half second to fight with the second group of riders."
Another factor to consider is Valentino's riding style, with the inevitable confrontation with Stoner being made: "Casey's style stresses the front end less - Valentino explained - and his body size allows for a different seating position to my own. Trying to ride like him would be a mistake, but it could be useful to try and stress the front tire less."
All of the progress from Brno seemed to disappear at Indianapolis and Misano: "I don't know why. Brno, like Barcelona, doesn't offer a lot of grip, and the distance between the riders is reduced. Maybe we suffer less than the others in low grip conditions."
The testing restrictions are another issue Ducati is dealing with: "It's incredible that the testing time has been reduced by so much - Rossi continued - and I know that some other manufacturers are upset about it as well. We would have plenty of things to test, but we can't. Not having the chance to test more often is slowing our work down ten fold."
But while Rossi can't seem to get any satisfaction in MotoGP, things might be different in WSBK, after Checa invited him to go race at Imola: "I'd really like to, and there's a chance I would have more fun there than here - he joked - but not while the MotoGP season is still going on. In 2009 I was very close to doing a WSBK race, but then Yamaha said no. In the future, who knows?"
Rossi, Hayden, & Edwards would all be fun to watch in WSBK!
The MotoGP fight for 4th place during the final 3-4 laps were great to watch with Simoncelli, Dovi and Spies battled it out. I think Simo is "starting" to temper his aggressive style w/ a touch of maturity...great show w/ the last bit of tread left on his tires.

Wild, huh? That the best racing is for forth. Contracts are coming up and it'll be interesting to see who goes where. Dovi could end up over at Tech3.

racing underground racing for me you know.
From today's MotoGP practice session at Motegi (Thurs in HI / Fri in Japan since they are across the date line). After all the radiation worries & drama they all showed up for the race (shocking) [roll]! I hope Spies gets well enough by race time.
QuoteUnder darkening skies, the MotoGP class headed out for the second free practice session on Friday which saw no fewer than six riders run off the track during the outing.
All but one of the riders in the field improved upon their earlier times with the top four spots of the day going to the Factory Hondas. Dani Pedrosa took over the top spot with 21 minutes to go and set a new fast lap of 1’46.790 ahead of team mate Stoner by a margin of 0.054s. Andrea Dovizioso followed with a 1’46.952, an improvement of eight tenths over his FP1 time, with San Carlo Honda Gresini Team’s Marco Simoncelli occupying the fourth spot after leading in the early part of the session.
Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) was fifth in the combined times, posting a lap at 1’47.310, six tenths better than his earlier time, while Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), who had been third in FP1, bettered his earlier time by four tenths to end the day in sixth.
Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini) stepped up his pace by a full second, putting the Japanese rider seventh with a time of 1’47.785, two tenths ahead of Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi in eighth. Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar) ended the day ninth just 0.02s ahead of Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) in tenth.
Yamaha Factory Racing’s Ben Spies was the sole rider who did not improve in the outing, the American retired from the session after completing just 5 laps after exhaustion took over him due to fighting an illness the past two days. He checked himself into the medical center and will try to rest enough to participate in tomorrow’s events.

Barring any craziness Checa likely has the WSBK championship sewed up.
MotoGP should be interesting from here on out. 44 points separating Stoner & Lorenzo and just 4 races to go. Dare we ask too much to see some great fighting?
Rossi reportedly injured his hand (fracture pinky) as a result of his crash at Motegi...looks like Hayden will be doing most the final testing for the GP12 bike in Jerez. Not sure who's had worse luck this year in MotoGP, Rossi or Ducati!
"Left Pinky Injury for Valentino Rossi. Tomorrow Nicky Hayden will test the GP12 at Jerez
Valentino Rossi's fall in the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday was not without consequences, although the initial examination suggested otherwise. Due to the severity of the pain and swelling in his left hand, the Italian on Tuesday underwent additional X-rays that revealed a hairline fracture at the arthrodesis of the first and second phalanx (performed following a fall at Assen in 1995) of the pinky finger on his left hand. Rossi's participation in the Australian Grand Prix on October 16 is not in doubt.
Tomorrow, Thursday 6 October, Nicky Hayden will test the GP12 at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, using the last of eight days the team is allowed with the 2012 bike."
If Edwards could race with a broke collar bone then Rossi sure as hell can race with a sore finger. [laugh]
Dorna is so full of it! Most of the rules should be lifted. They should limit displacement, weight and the amount of electronic rider/engine assistance. That's it and then get the F out of everybody's way. Run whatever tires, how many ever engines and as much development testing that is wanted. It's the OPEN class for cryin' out loud!
There's plenty of other divisions and classes for all of the other "equalizing" rules.
Checa is going to be testing the GP12 as well.
Some good racin' at Portimao this past weekend... [thumbsup]
Yep, for sure. Next year should be hot too & I hope BMW gets the electronics sorted out. When you think about it, that S1000RR should be on the podium every race. Haslam and Melandri have the talent, as did Corser, but the bike needs better sorting.
Wow, Simo's accident looks bad, I pray he will be okay (I don't pray often). He looks like he crashed & slid head first into Colin Edward's bike. The force looks like it popped his helmet off while laying on the track. Colin appears to have dislocated his shoulder, while Rossi was able to save his bike and rode through the gravel. The race is now stopped (red flag) entering the 2nd lap...eerie silence.
I'm replaying the footage by frame in disbelief...you can see a slight gap between Colin's & Rossi's bikes showing Simo's hair (w/out a helmet) striking Colin's bike while Rossi's front wheel goes over Simo's arm.
RIP Simo. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. His wild hair and colorful personality will be missed on the grid. Below link is his post-race interview in Borneo...his interviews had an entertainment value on their own...plus he loved his fans and crew.

Well said...
I couldn't get the slo-mo on the recorder to work but it looked like Marco couldn't/wouldn't let go of the bike in the low side. He probably acted like an anchor which dragged him & the bike back into the line of traffic. Rossi, being on the inside of Edwards, never even had a chance to see him coming and Edwards had no room to do anything but hit Marco. One of the more horrible crashes ever.

I agree...it looks like he was lowsiding, fought it-trying to recover, gained traction and got high sided to the opposite direction into race line. I can only imagine the emotional toll Edwards and Val are going through.

More likely...
Quote from: gm2 on October 24, 2011, 09:59:18 AM
that's exactly what happened. he was trying to save it; a normal lowside would have washed him off the left side of the track, out of harms way. however the front tire suddenly found traction and whipped he and the bike back across the racing line; it was nearly perpendicular. think the violence of a rear catching and causing a highside, only the other way around. he was literally thrown in front of Colin and Valentino, nothing anyone could do.
Quote from: DRKWNG on October 24, 2011, 03:00:31 PM
More likely...
That's my guess from watching Bautista's onboard camera- Simo begins to low side at the apex, slides left towards the outside of corner as he (Bautista) passed, then the motoGP camera picks up as Edwards and Val enter the corner and Simo slides to the right back into their line. Ironically, this happened w/in 3-5 seconds after the announcer says Simo has been having a difficult time riding through the upcoming segment of the circuit!
Below is an article based on Paolo's (his father) reflections that were posted on another forum.
Quote"Marco was a very special person, and perhaps people have understood what he was like. If he had to swear he would, he was like that. Most of all he was honest, he was really pure," said Simoncelli Sr.
"On top of that he was a warrior, and maybe that's why he died. Had he let the bike go...but last Sunday he wanted to win. He was again the Marco we had at the beginning of the season, but now he knew what to do, he knew everything."
Greeted by hundreds of fans when he landed in Rome with his son's body, Paolo said: "Honestly I couldn't believe it: it would be bullshit if I said I'm happy, but it pleases me. We didn't realise all this, but it's a very nice thing.
"Tomorrow evening, after the end of the funeral, we'll be alone. It'll be terrible. But now I have you and all the people that come visit us. That can only please us.
"Marco was always available with all the journalists, as with all the people that would come to disturb him while he was eating. In fact he would scold me when I complained. That's how he was.
"Marco was never judged badly, he was always judged for what he was and for the way he presented himself. I loved him, and he loved me. Marco was great and that's it. What a shame.
"He needed everything around him to work. He needed Aligi Deganello - his guru and chief technician - his team, and his dad, who would piss him off sometimes, as he would say. Before the start we would shake hands and hug. I did that on Sunday too, but I guess I got something wrong. It didn't go as usual.
"He enjoyed all the simple things he had: he liked his house, his dog, the grass... in fact on Sunday he told me 'I'm tired, I want to go back home', because we had been away to prepare for Malaysia, which for him has always been difficult: nutrition, he took an ice bath to cool down before the race... It was perfect, he was sure he would do well. But he told me 'I want to go back home, dad.'"
Paolo arrived at the scene of the crash as Marco was being lifted onto a stretcher and carried to the ambulance. He says he had called to his son, but Marco was already dead. He says he also bears no ill will to the bearers, who fumbled the stretcher on their way to the ambulance.
"I was thereabouts, but Marco was dead already. I was 10 metres away, but Marco was already dead, it changed nothing.
"I helped them: when they got back up and passed the stretcher over to my side of the guard rail I took the stretcher to place it in the ambulance and held Marco's hand and called him 'Ciao Marco', but he was gone already.
"There was nothing that could be done. Nothing would have changed in that case. As for the rest, maybe more (attention) is needed, but these people try to do their best, so it's useless... But in our case Marco died on impact.
"They say God summons the best to heaven. I don't know. I wish that's how it is."
Paolo said Marco's funeral would almost certainly be held this Thursday, as a private function for relatives, friends, fellow riders and Gresini Racing staff
The MotoGP season finale in Valencia has a few interesting twists. Josh Hayes' first GP race (filling in for Edwards), Capirossi's final GP race (racing as #58 for Simo) and “un minuto di casinoâ€- a minute of casino will be observed, where the 125/Moto2/GP bikes will rev their engines on the paddock for a minute of "noise" (in lieu of silence) to celebrate Simoncelli's life. On a similar note, there is a movement trying to get riders to rev their engines on Sunday at 1030 in their respective time zone in remembrance...Who's got their DB killers out for the JJ run? Seriously, I've always wondered how Rossi, Stoner, et. al. set that up. Just hard on the rear brakes & a touch correction with the front or do they just muscle it over on tires that are so hot that they are slipping but still grabbing at the same time?
Who knows. He's sure got that rear end stepping way the hell out though. That's a serious approach he's got going on.

Good race One today. Haven't watched the second one yet. Nice to see a good podium finish for the BMW.
Likewise for the 2nd race...except no BMW on the podium... ;D
Just watched the Supersport race at Philip Island, lots of good dicing for the top spots...

2nd race actually better than the first race. I'm not a big Biaggi fan but you have to hand it to him that he rode his ass off. How his tires lasted long enough to do what he did is almost a miracle. I think best ride goes to Tom Sykes and Kawasaki. Major props to them! BMW slowy, inch by inch, gets better. Haslam was super good considering how broken his body was.

Good! I'll have to watch that. Since I came home late this afternoon I had to cave & watch Gloria's shows this afternoon. I'll get to the race later.
That said, and this is really lame, but I watched the last season's last race last night where Josh Hayes and Blake Young duked it out for the title. Holy Cow! What a race! Saving that one. Can't believe that I spaced out and didn't watch it for all this time. But then again, I can believe it. [roll]
Watched both WSBK races from Imola. Race 2 was just cracker. Nice surprises from 2 teams. MotoGP better watch out. This will be a hard act to follow next week.
Very much so. Kawi really pulled the rabbit out of the hat this year. Be nice if Sykes could have made the rear last a bit longer and kept the pace up front.

Yep. It's safe to post in here, as the title gives due warning.
Downloading the World SuperStock race from Imola now. Heard that the Effenbert Panigale took pole. Shame this panning out to be the only race they'll run it.

Just got through the main race. Good race too! ............ Now it's official, and sad to say, Rossi sucks. It ain't the bike, man.
Rossi's timing didn't look good throughout the practice runs and qualifying session...I think Burgess/crew were going in circles changing the bike's settings.
No kidding, finally a good GP race. Crutchlow has hella spirit, and was giving Dovi his all just about the entire race. Glad to see that the combo of the bigger bikes and the new rubber that Bridgestone cooked up have added some excitement back to the series.
Now as far as Rossi goes... The bike still has issues, but Rossi is just as much at fault (in my eyes) for not being willing to ride the bike sloppy. He spent too many years with the M1, turning that thing into the scalpel that it is and doesn't seem willing to accept anything that isn't as precise. On the flip side, I was really glad to see Nicky do well.
I think Nicky did well, but he didn't appear very happy w/ result...I think he was trying to get up to Crutchlow & Dovi, but got stuck behind Spies in the beginning. Bradl was impressive for his rookie year on the GP bike. Pedrosa's pass, w/ 2 laps to go, was a bit hairy; but it was good to see him pull it off...the comment about his rear tire going up 8 feet in the air when he's only 5'2" was funny! Even funnier was Crutchlow's poor start because his "midget legs" couldn't reach the ground. Great start to a new season...well, now you know how I spent my lunch break...back to work!

Rossi blamed the new tires for losing time at the beginning, then lost 5-6 seconds after Barbera pushed him out of the track. I don't see a podium finish in the near future, but I think Rossi will be on par w/ Hayden once Burgess sorts the new bike out. I agree w/ DRKWNG...Rossi refuses to change his riding style to complement the bike...something Stoner pointed out last year during an interview.
Just have to point out the fact that in those past years while Rossi and Burgess were developing the M1 he was still winning races and championships. Not every one and not all the time but if he wasn't winning he was threatening. Now "lesser" guys on the satellite bikes are going faster than he is. I wish it were different and maybe it will be later but for now, just sayin..........
was hoping for a better result from Ducati... :(
Fair points Rick, but if I remember correctly, the M1 wasn't quite so much of a turd as the Desmo is now.
True that the Yamaha wasn't as big of a pig as the Ducati is but the Yamy wasn't always good.
Remember this?
Valentino Rossi talks about his Yamaha YZR-M1 from 2004 to 2009 (part 1 of 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVP8yHvgEd8#)
However, not only did Nicky beat him, but Hector Barbera had two seconds on him by the end of the race and if I remember correctly Karel Abraham was in front of him too. If Karel hadn't gone off track Rossi would have been the last of 4 Ducati's across the line.
Of course Spies was having big problems too, that apparently none of the other 3 Yamaha riders had, so who's to really say? Maybe Vale should just have the team set his bike up like Nicky's and then just go out and ride the shit out of it
Ouch...

As for MotoGP...Jerez is this Sunday! Below link is Ducati's press release on Val's & Nicky's practice runs. Great practice times in wet track conditions, placing Rossi in 3rd and Nicky was in his normal place in 6th.
Final Practice-
Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) 3rd (1:51.440)
Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) 6th (1:52.254)
http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2012/Valentino+Rossi+third+in+Spanish+free+practice+Nicky+Hayden+sixth (http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2012/Valentino+Rossi+third+in+Spanish+free+practice+Nicky+Hayden+sixth)
After a promising performance during wet practice, Rossi qualified 13th just ahead of the CRT bikes. I think he's praying for wet conditions....from his video interview- "looks like on the wet we are a little less worse." The track had wet/dry patches in the corners making it difficult for all riders. Kudos to Nicky for qualifying 3rd, placing him on the front row for race day...might be the first time he's qualified on front row on a Ducati.

Doesn't that beg the question, " If Nicky can grab a front row position, well...........? "
Nicky was asked if he could explain why "he is so much faster" than Val! He downplayed it by saying he hasn't given it much thought [thumbsup]...but believes Rossi will be ahead of him as the season progresses. Ironically, even Nicky isn't sure he can stay in the front during the race. The entire Ducati team is praying for wet conditions since they believe they are more competitive with their electronics package and ability to maintain heat in the tires in those conditions. They were testing in Jerez a month ago...so hopefully they have varied settings to match up to whatever weather conditions they are dealt.
There's no questioning my loyalty and affection for Ducati and I like Rossi a great deal also but praying for rain so you can be competitive is about as lame as it can get in my book.
Maybe someone should tell Ducati to look for other solutions, 'cause it ain't gonna rain every race day... [thumbsdown]
Unfortunately for some, the MotoGP race was declared dry just 5 minutes before the start! It had an amazing start with the riders racing elbow to elbow for the first couple/few laps. It got a little boring once everyone got their separation. Nice finishes from Crutchlow and Bradl in Jerez...I think this the most animated I've ever seen Stoner as he crossed the finish line after having Lorenzo nipping at his heals. I'll have to catch Moto2 tomorrow.
Until mañana, hasta luego!
Stone finally broke the "no win in Jerez" monkey that has been on his back. And HOT DAMN for Crutchlow!! I'm betting he'll be on Ben's bike next year.

This coming weekend, May 5th & 6th
MotoGP at Estoril, Portugal
WSBK at Monza, Italy
AMA at Infineion (Sears Point) CA
British Superbike at Oulton Park.
All of that plus Gloria wants to go watch Think Like a Man.
Oh Boy!
If Free Practice times & 1st Qualifying Session times are any indicator there should be some good stuff this weekend. Spies seems to have his bike sorted. [Dolph] The Ducs don't look too good for Monza but they never really do anyway. That might be a shootout among the BMW's and the Aprilia's.
Overall a boring race, but Rossi had his best finish this season at 7th place. Nice battle for 4th within the Yamaha satellite teams. Next stop...Le Mans on 20 May!

Yep. The AMA Daytona 600cc races were great. Haven't seen the 1K races yet. Infineon looks like a fast, fast track. Some of those downhill corners look downright scary!
I'm trying to get into AMA races, but I can't understand half of what's coming out of the announcers mouth! Sadly, I have a better understanding of the Queens English during MotoGP when Gavin Emmett and Nick Harris commentate!

One big problem with the AMA coverage is that the producer (whoever) doesn't filter out enough background engine noise so you have to screen out the din to hear the commentary. The announcers also tend to get much more technical about what they are talking about than the FIM or MotoGP guys. So if you aren't familiar with the rules, the mechanical side of things or all the different names of the riders, their support teams and the history then you can lose a bit. It's taken me over 3 years of watching to really start getting into AMA but the quality of racing is sure worth it. Their English, even with the southern accents, is just fine. I ain't got no problm t'all 'standin them. ;D
All that said it was very gratifying see DiSalvo do so well on the Triumph 675 and big kudos to Danny Eslick on the EBR 1198 not to mention Fillmore on the KTM!! Shake up those Suzukis and Yamahas! [Dolph]
I do love the videography, which is much better than WSBK and have no problem with the technical details. You're right, the audio quality is very poor...which doesn't help the very thick & deep country accents!
Crackin' good race 1 at Donnington, one of the best ever...more than makes up for last week's fiasco... [thumbsup]
Definitely!! Perhaps the best race of the WSBK race season so far. 4 guys fightin' it out for 1st place. I don't know why I even bother with MotoGP anymore. [roll]

WOW! What an mazing show of racers trading paint and positions...and what a dramatic finish to an amazing 2nd race. I think Melandri became overly ambitious trying to pass his BMW teamate on the last two corners (both hairpins)...which forced them both to run wide and giving Rae an opportunity to get through. Post race arguments heated up in the BMW garage w/ Haslam's father being restrained when he confronted Melandri. Luckily, "Euro Sport" covers WSBK more in-depth (and from different camera angles) than Speed channel!
Ironically, Rae's riding style reminds me of Marco Simoncelli's style with not being afraid of elbowing his way through corners. Next race...MotoGP at Le Mans [Dolph]

I am a newbie to watching motorcycle racing (6 mon), but I agree MotoGP just doesn't have the brash in your face, aggressive racing most of the time.
The 2 races at Donington (SP) were great ...especially moto 2.
I can respect Stoner's decision...plus he gets to end his legacy/retire while he's on top of his class. He dislikes a lot of recent changes and feels he's lost the passion for it. Equally amusing, during the same pre-event press conference, is Rossi's plan to continue racing in MotoGP for at least the next three years...I wonder if he'll remain w/ Ducati until he bows out?!
Correction: Rossi plans for another two (not three) years in MotoGP.

just finished watching MotoGP at LeMans...finally, a decent result for Ducaudi...now if they can only do it in the dry.. [roll].
Horns blow!! Flags wave!! People jump up & down & cheer! And two old rivals enjoy a good race. Both making separate points ( not race points ) in their own way.
That was the best MotoGP race I've seen in a while! I'll be proud to ride w/ my Rossi helmet tomorrow, in the wet, at Thunderbolt (albeit at a much slower pace)! While I think Rossi will go back to mid-pack in the next few races...I truly hope Burgess & the factory engineers can sort out the Desmo in dry conditions for the team's sake.
Stoner sounded humble and genuinely appreciative of being on the podium during the post race interview. Stoner & Pedrosa had a difficult time keeping their tires warm through most of the race...then they over-heated their tires as rain conditions improved during the final ~6 laps!
Watched WSBK (race #1) at Miller Motorsport Park in Utah. A good finish for Ducati, BMW & Aprilia. Unfortunately it was a bit boring...unsure if it was the race itself or the ho-hum commentators at SPEED. Somehow, the British commentators and cameramen at EUROSPORT do a much better job at capturing the action on the track.
Hair raising fight to the finish between Johnny Rea and Marco Melandri in race 2...a [thumbsdown] to Speed for their lousy camera work in missing Checca's off...time for Hopper to give it up, no how much talent you have, you can't crash out of every race and be a winner...
Yep, Hopper should stop. The poor guy is already injured enough and if he keeps crashing at practically every practice and/or race then it's only a matter of time before he does major damage to himself. No doubt his sponsors and team owners will see that soon also.
Didn't mean to sound so harsh about Hopper, he obviously has passion for the sport, but he can't go on like this...
Passion helps but it's not enough. It's a rough crowd up in the top ten. [bow_down]
Not a bad race today, Spies showed very early promise, but then OOPS!...

What a fun MotoGP race! It was refreshing to see different riders dominate the front pack for the initial parts of the race. I think Stoner and Lorenzo were caught by surprise when their competition started the race at a much faster pace than expected. Crutchlow's finish was impressive considering his fresh ankle injury.

I liked watching the match ups between Spies and Dovi...as well as Crutchlow trying to get through the factory and satellite Ducatis. I was really hoping Spies would get on the podium. Meanwhile, I wonder who will be replacing Stoner and Hayden (if Ducati doesn't renew his contract) next year!
The final laps of Moto3 were exciting and kept everyone guessing!

I don't think you have to worry about Hayden. Your man Rossi is another story.

That Aragon track reminds me a bit of Infinieon in CA.
FIM Supersport race at Aragon, winner Kenneth Sofuoglu is demoted to fifth place for trying to headbutt Fabian Foret while passing him with six laps to go... :o
Speaking of demotions & demerits...Alvaro Bautista was penalized for last weeks crash and will start at the rear of the grid. Hayden and Rossi qualified for 3rd row (7th & 9th respectively). Hopefully it will be a good race for Ducati if it continues to rain, since they have shown to be competitive in the wet this year. Unfortunately, Hayden was disappointed w/ the qualifying session after being in pole position until the end before getting stuck behind a little traffic. Rossi continues to tweek the bike's set up.

Deja vu all over again... ;)
The MotoGP race was one of the best ones I've seen in a long time and the announcers did a great job trying to provide coverage for the different battles taking place ....whether it was Stoner/Pedrosa for 1st, Dovi/Crutchlow/Spies for 4th, the Ducati factory/satellite bikes for whatever place, to the CRT bikes in the back of the pack.
[Dolph] [popcorn] [Dolph]
It looks like Marquez will officially move up from Moto2 and replace Stoner for the 2013 season. Honda seemed to have successfully lobbied MotoGP to change the rule on rookie contracts.
Hayden ran the 3rd fastest pace today, during practice, at Mugello.
I'll be curious to hear HRC backpedal from their previous claim about next years team. It's amazing how Repsol's dollars can change things. [roll]
Front row --- Pedrosa --- Lorenzo --- Barbera
Second row --- Hayden --- Stoner --- Crutchlow
Third row --- Dovizioso --- Bradl --- Spies
Ought to be a hell of a start at least.
An interesting comment was made during the Mugelo race...Dovi and Crutchlow are looking to take over Spies Yamaha bike next year...no shocker there...but so is Rossi! I wish I could be a fly on the wall to hear Rossi's team attempt to negotiate his return after all the friction he had with Lorenzo!
Next stop...Laguna Seca on the 28th.

Hmmm...looks like Ben Spies is voluntarily walking away from Yamaha. Hopefully the rumors of his return to WSBK are true...it would make the grid line up more amazing!
The motorcycle musical chairs thing is becoming humorous and interesting too. Where would Spies go? BMW? Ducati? Would Yamaha field a WSBK team again? What about the whole Rossi, Hayden, Dovi, Crutchlow thing? [popcorn]
The rumor is Spies may look at BMW, but the factory is folding their team into the satellite BMW Italia team for 2013. It may not be a bad idea for BMW to replace Haslam, since he and Milandri like to swap paint on the track!
Anyway, back to MotoGP...there is a lot of speculation in the media for the all upcoming free agent-"musical chairs"...but it will all be sorted/disclosed by the race in Valencia. Dovi may take Spies' bike, but Team San Carlo-Honda-Gresini is chomping at the bit to get an Italian rider (Dovi or Rossi). Ducati allegedly offered Crutchlow a 2x yr contract...but I don't wish that bike on anyone until Ducati comes up with a genuine road map to fix it. As for Hayden, I hope he get plucked by another factory or a competitive satellite team...he's done well for Ducati and has never publicly bad mouthed his employer.

True that, but he was just calling it exactly as it is, which is that MotoGP is a bunch of B.S. Amongst other things this stupid CRT class should be done away with. Scott Russell agreed wholeheartedly with that.

+1 on both counts...
Was watching yesterday's race again this morning at my son's place, when he made an interesting observation. When the workers reached Spies' bike and uprighted it after he crashed, it appeared as though the rear suspension was broken as the tail section was down on the tire. The crash itself didn't appear to be all that nasty, so maybe the shock link or something else broke causing the crash.
I know that Scott Russell attributed Spies' race crash and his qualifying crash to the traction control, but isn't the TC supposed to prevent this type of crash?

The last official release from Rossi was he'll have his final decision NLT Indianapolis Grand Prix and that he's 80% on board w/ Yamaha. He'll be giving up the $40 million dollar Ducati offer for a 2x yr factory Yamaha ride, w/ a potential WSBK factory ride in 2015. Rossi seems to have reconciled his issues of being second seat to Lorenzo (Low-ren-tho) [evil]

Funny, Teresa sent me the same article at work today! Stoner brings up many valid points...and I've previously mentioned that Stoner modified his riding style to suit the previous desmo and win, while Rossi refused to. Then again, I don't blame Rossi for not pushing the bike beyond the point of diminishing returns, to risk injury, a DNF and no team points.
Stoner is an amazing racer that I enjoy watching, but even he constantly complained the previous desmo had inherent flaws that limited his performance...so, it's a bit easier now to point fingers while he has a great ride. In the end, I can't blame Stoner for relishing in the moment for the way Ducati treated his exit and created a marketing campaign blitz to welcome and embrace Rossi. While, I'm a #46 fan...I genuinely hope this has been a humbling experience for Rossi, Burgess and friends.
It won't happen, but I'd love to watch Stoner, Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa and Edwards race on the same bike setup for a grudge-match fundraiser. [evil]
whoa....that was some qualifying session at Indy.
truly, wild, violent & vicious!!
will Stoner & Hayden be in the lineup...... [popcorn]
Hayden is definitely out...his wreck looked scary and he briefly lost consciousness from the impact. Stoner's right ankle will be re-evaluated Sunday morning, due to a fracture and torn ligaments caused by a high side crash. Hector Brabera is headed to Spain, after Friday's crash, for more tests after fracturing three vertebraes...he will be replaced by Tony Elias.
Spies will start 4th, but likely has ligament tears after his massive high side. I hope they have a safe race tomorrow.
SAFE RACE!!!
Yes, agree [thumbsup]
Sheesh...I hoped for a safe race, not a boring race! What did I get...a safe and boring race! I have to give it to Stoner for racing today...it took everything out of him. His crew wasn't sure if they should help him lift his leg over the bike or just hold up the bike, as Stoner just slumped over the tank!

I think Spies is beyond bad luck. That looked like a blown head gasket today. Bad Luck or such poor maintenance that it borders on sabotage?
Jarvis never has liked him. Mary probably has something to do with that...
Maybe Mary should head back to Tejas...always thought it a bit strange for her to be in the paddock, kind of like BJ Penn having his mom in his corner during a fight... [roll]
Did you see/hear her little tirade a few weeks back, after Yamaha and Rossi started their contract negotiations?
"Here is my personal opinion. We have fast motorcycle racers. We have good motorcycle racers. We have racers that crash alot but still bring in great results. We have talented riders. (those that ride with a plan and ride fast) we have racers that can build a bike and ride the bike ..to a point. We have racers that can get on the same bike and one can ride it better than the other. We have two in my lifetime of the past 20 years that built their bikes and got championships and in my mind I clearly feel they had fast bikes but were NOT the best or most talented rider. It was simply timing. There was no competition only because they were on the fastest bike not actually the better rider. One is retired and one should be retired. Have a nice day."
Common consensus was pretty much STFU Mary.

Rossi scored a second place. Not only that, he grabbed second place on the first lap and held it, fighting off Bradl for bunches of laps, and held it all the way to the finish.
Either Ducati made some leaps and bounds improvements or Rossi decided to push the bike harder than ever. I think the factory moved in the right direction finally cause why should Rossi fight so hard if he already has a new good ride?
Good news but too little too late.
That was a great race...while it unfortunately cost others to crash, it was refreshing to see fresh faces on the podium. Nice fight for 3rd place up to the finish line!

It was good to see Johny Rae set a decent pace in another MotoGP race...he interviews surprising well and appears humble (wasn't expecting that from his riding style). He admitted to losing a little time trying to figure out all the buttons on the bike before he said the heck w/ it and rode! Rossi made a couple of mistakes that cost him a lot of time, but he had a promising rhythm. Hayden's crash/toss looked painful...hope he'll be okay.
This weekend is the finals for both WSBK and AMA. Biaggi could seal the title in the first race although mathematically Sykes and Melandri could still get there by some stroke of magic fate. [roll] Don't know if Melandri will be healed up enough. What a dickhead -- cost himself a shot at the title and BMW a manufacturers title too.
Both WSBK races were absolutely amazing!
Definitely kept us on our toes! My heart was rooting for Sykes to take the overall championship...so close by a 0.5 pt. [Dolph]

Right on Teresa!
I think somebody in Crutchlow's pit crew made a boo-boo. Not absolutely sure of this but I don't think the rider has any manual override. Something to check on.
Riders have the ability to switch preset maps...but you're right, they can't go into full overide mode. During a previous interview with Jonathan Rea, he commented on how he lost a bit of time during a MotoGP event while playing with the maps, at different sections of the track, before he left Stoner's buttons alone.
Most teams were worried about fuel consumption with the track layout...so it would be interesting to see who, if anyone, is at fault...although you have to wonder "if" Cal dropped back to 4th or even 5th place to maintain conservative pace would have allowed him to sneak across the finish line.

MotoGP Australian GP from Philip Island, 7:00pm Sat on Speed...not a big Stoner fan, but I hope he wins this one...
I just hope it will be less boring than last week's race in Sepang (Malaysia).
MotoGP at Valencia, 3:00 am Sunday on Speed...
It looks like it will be a wet race...might play into Ducati's favor! I hope Stoner has a good farewell race. DVR is set.
Vicious high side in the main race.

With a whole lot of talent, skill, guts & determination. He practically went through half the field on the first lap. Per qualifying times he was five seconds a lap faster than the 32nd guy ahead of him at the start. Then he just rode the wheels off that bike. Excellent racing.
Sport Rider magazine ran these two articles I thought you'd enjoy. The first is an interview with HRC's VP and his views of the GP and frank thoughts of Honda riders. The second article discusses a new penalty point system being implemented by Dorna for endangering other riders.

I typically download torrents (P2P) of Eurosport's WSBK coverage (MotoGP & F1 also available), which includes pre/post race coverage. I also buy a motogp video ticket, which I've offered my password to the Sunday JJ crew :-)...by the way, I miss you guys.
I never really enjoyed Speeds 1hr coverage with continuous commercial interruptions. Meanwhile NASCAR gets a multi-hour block...understandably it rakes in more viewers & revenue, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
On a different note, NBC supposedly outbid fox/speed for F1 coverage of the 2013 season.
Below article was posted a few months ago when the rumors started buzzing.

I think that's all well and good. Mostly. It's the live streaming part....... does that mean you have to be awake and online when they stream? Since I don't have the time I think this old man needs to set computers up I'll likely get beIN for this one race. There's also friends coming in from the mainland who want to see the race so it will have to be recorded for them. I'm exploring alternatives for this race and future races too.
Exploring? Hell son, you got 'em.
More than one now thank you but nothing is really up and running 100% yet. Actually not true. I was watching a bit of soccer last night on beIN so that should work.

Ok folks, the much anticipated Grand Prix season opening race in Qatar this Sunday...I know, WSBK & AMA is more exciting! Yeah, I bet you that Ducati doesn't make the podium... :-*
Something I haven't been able to say since he broke his leg ~2.5 years ago- Rossi has an excellent chance at snatching a podium spot! It's still early in the week as riders improve their setup, but it's always good to see Crutchlow doing well and I hope Spies improves by Sunday (currently in 13th aboard Pramac Ducati). Colin Edwards is still sorting out his NGM ART bike in 17th place out of 24 riders. Below are the top 10 FP1 results.

Wow, what a great show! Unsure whether to be more excited about "Rossi's return or Marquez' arrival!" It was great seeing Rossi back on the podium. Equally impressive was seeing Marquez battle at that level for his debut GP race, and Crutchlow keeping pace with the front pack on a satellite bike.
Ironically, Rossi ran out fuel after the finish line & had to catch a ride on the back of a Ducati to get back to the garage! :-)

I was. But the excitement quickly wanes at the thought of races being a series of parade laps for the leader, like Losail was. Time will tell...
Did anyone happen to catch that moment when Marquez had his bike totally sideways under acceleration and was looking like a mile dirt track racer? :o :o
How about the front of that Ducati going away and under The Ben during the practice sessions? Evil -- evil -- evil. It slammed him as hard as some high sides go.
I think our duels are going to be the Lorenzo/Rossi/Marquez fights and they should be pretty dog gone good. [popcorn] [popcorn]
Don't get me wrong. Watching a single leader disappear off into the sunset is not my idea of the great race either but if all the rest of MotoGP this year is as exciting as yesterday's race was then I still wouldn't complain. [Dolph]

Good WSBK wkend at Argon...well, unless you were one of the riders experiencing electronic issues, crashing, an engine blowout, false neutral at corner entry, or running out of gas at the end of the race! Great performance by Chaz Davies...it was good to see Checa back on the paddock, but I hope his injuries continue to heal leading into the 3rd round.

+1...a real gutty performance...
I think this race nicely showcased lots of stuff:
ROSSI!! Good to see him win! That will do wonders for his self confidence & hopefully he will win more but doubtful that he will be in championship contention this year anyway.
Crutchlow....... screwed up the start something fierce and almost wrote him off but the guy has a huge heart and fought back. Could have actually placed better but kept messing up in a few corners that set him back.
Pedrosa ..... super talented, fast as all get out until he gets consistently pressured and if he gets passed it's like stabbing him and hard for him to fight back. If he had Crutchlow's heart he'd be a champion already.
Marquez .... better than Dani but trying to be a team player until it's obvious that Dani is just not going to hold a fast enough pace so he has to pass him. There's being a team player and then there's beinga team player but if your teammate is going to fold then what can you do?
Lorenzo....... Big balls and kudos to him for even showing up to race let alone race as hard as he did. Absolutely deserves all those points and then some. But......... even though he was totally spent at the end of the race you cannot tell me that he didn't have enough left in him to pull up to his teammate Rossi and congratulate him on a race win. No, the guy just doesn't have enough class to do that. It's only that.. class & sportsmanship and I think he needs more. He can be dour just like Pedrosa, who gives a real rip but if he could finish the race and the give Rossi a fist pump on the track that would really show something. He just doesn't have that something.
Quote from: MacDuck on June 30, 2013, 07:25:50 PM

Unfortunately, I think Lorenzo just took himself out of the next 2x races during today's practice in Germany! He high-sided during practice and landed on the same broken shoulder, which bent the titanium plate on his collarbone. Speaking of balls, he was setting the fastest pace before he crashed.
This blows open the season in favor of Pedrosa and Marquez and improves Rossi's/Crutchlow's chances to earn additional podium spots. Sunday's race should be interesting, especially at turn 11, which has already hosted multiple crashes!
*Edit: Pedrosa maybe out for this wkend race due to a crash...he was airlifted due to a shoulder/collarbone fracture and possible concussion. Marquez will be on pole, with Rossi and Crutchlow in front row...wonder how Bradl will do, in front of his home fans.
In a weird and unpredictable way the season is getting interesting.

Adding to the irony, Marquez mentioned how incredible the '08 Rossi/Stoner battle at the corkscrew during an interview on Thursday...just a crazy hunch, I think Marquez drilled/practiced that specific pass at the corkscrew a few times prior to the race. :-)

Well it's been confirmed that Crutchlow will replace Hayden on the factory Ducati and Pol Espargaro (Moto2) will replace Crutchlow at Tech3. I hope Crutchlow has negotiated a huge salary bump, since he's currently on a very competitive satellite bike at Tech3! Scott Redding (Moto2) will also move to the GP class, but to "which" team has not been confirmed.

Can't find the MotoGP Indy race on Oceanic's schedule...I've got the DVR set for Saturday's qualifying and the Moto2 & 3 races (Ch241 Fuel) on Monday, but no MotoGP... ???
I heard the new Fox sports channel was going to take over some events from Speed, but can't find anything scheduled...
Fox Sports 1 launches this weekend and will carry MotoGP as well as other shows. They are taking over Ch. 241 Fuel (as FS2) and Speed 214 (as FS1).
MotoGP will be shown on FS1 Ch. 214...but as of now Time Warner (Oceanic) and Fox have not come to an agreement regarding $$$, so it's questionable as to whether we'll get it or not.

Nothing wrong with the picture today! Maybe my antenna was set right. ;D The race had it's good moments and it's boring stretches. How about Marquez? Dani grew some balls finally! [thumbsup] Even Rossi got into the game but too late. He's got the bike but his head is not in the same place as it used to be. Close but not not quite in the same place. Wouldn't take much for him but maybe he'd have to push harder now than he used to.

Just hoping that Race 2 is good also along with the MotoGP.
I actually missed the last 1 1/2 laps because the race was red flagged 3 times and I didn't have the record time set long enough...it was a good one though with Sykes, Davies, Melandri and Guintoli all with a chance to win at one point or another...

It may not be that he is quitting racing altogether like the headline implies, it only means he & Ducati have parted ways.
Now, on the other hand, I called the end to his MotoGP career back in August at that Indianapolis crash. It's in the Racing & Trackdays threads. The guy has had shit luck and shit results since he started racing MotoGP. Highly doubtful that any team would pick him up with all the other talent out there.

Interesting as the WSBK website says Qualifying 2 ( which is Superpole I believe ) is Friday our time 6:25 pm to 6:40 pm, unless the time change calculator on the website has it wrong. I'll check that again using another calculator. I don't really understand the two times as I think it'd be hard to run qualifying during a 15 minute window. Dunno.
The races are scheduled for Saturday, our time, 3pm & 5:40pm ( live from Australia ) according to race officials at Phillip Island --- dont' know about the BeIn programming times but they were constantly late with those announcements last year.
[Dolph] [Dolph]
So, I rechecked and the times are correct for the actual last qualifying. As far as actual race times go. Practice times & earlier qualifying start earlier. What they are listing as Superpole may, in fact, be all or most of the different qualifying sessions. The last qualifying is a fifteen minute session.

They also mentioned that Sykes was running off the shelf Ohlins rather than last year's unobtainable (to you and me) Ohlins...and that may have cost him a few grid spots for the start.

I was thinking about you guys watching the race…and what an AMAZING race! One of the few races I remember jumping up to my feet off the sofa as they came across the corner….errrr….finish line! :-)
Unfortunately, the media is already trying to to create drama between Rossi and Marquez by pressing them for a reaction after the race. Rossi believes he entered the chicane ahead of Marquez and had no where to go except get on the throttle as he skipped over the gravel…Marquez feels he's the rightful winner because he was on the inside before they touched and that Vale cut the corner. Interestingly, Marquez didn't have a response when a journalist asked him where he expected Vale to go after they touched. His move was similar to Laguna Seca last year with Rossi, but Marquez wasn't as positive about this occurrence.

So what do all of you who have seen the recent races think of this? I think Rossi should have handled himself better but understandably frustrated with the Spaniards. From all the footage I've watched it looks to me that Marquez turned into Rossi and Marquez didn't have to do that. He had other options to deal with Rossi pushing him wide.

Pretty much agree, a sad ending to a great season in MotoGP. Rossi's back of the grid starting position for Valencia has pretty much sealed it, unless he can convince Dovi or Iannone to take out Jorge...if the Spaniards were working together, why not the Italians?... [roll]
I've watched more and more footage & interviews. Right now I'm inclined to think Marquez is a lying douchbag punk.

Yes. beIN is televising both WSBK & MotoGP this year from what I understand. Race 1 may be telecast tonight, Friday the 26th, at 6pm. A little bit ago when I was at home it was only listed as "To Be Announced". I think it should be the race as WSBK has a new format this year with Race 1 being run on Saturdays and Race 2 on Sundays. It looks like that is what they are going to do all season long so as to attract more television viewing.

They weren't sure about the weather. The earlier races had some wet track but the track was drying. I think they may have started with rain tires and came in to switch to slicks. Maverick Vinales caught a damp patch & went down. Too bad Rossi couldn't sort out the second bike as he was on fire for Marquez in the first half.

+1 I kinda lost interest in the race after the swap, I only continued to watch for the chance to see a Duc or two on the podium... [roll]

It wasn't the weather. Scott Redding had a rear tire delaminate in practice like Baz did in testing. The plan was to use a different construction slick and give them an extra 30 min practice to figure it out. Then it rained Sunday morning. Michelin knew the original spec tires would be safe for at least 11 laps so they shortened the race to 20 laps and had a mandatory bike swap on lap 9, 10, or 11.
Tks...

Do you guys ever watch moto2 or moto3. If you find GP boring, I'll guarantee you won't find the lower classes the same.
I watch Moto 2 from time to time. Lately the Asian races come on where we can watch them live at about 8pm for the main race. I have been turning the projector on early and catching all the races. All classes. Pretty good stuff. Get to see two more race venues live!
