Title: Would you sell if someone offered
Post by: mattyvas on July 01, 2010, 05:07:58 PM
As it says, would you sell if someone offered or asked you if you are interested in selling.
I was parked at Bondi this morning, when I got back there was a note scribbled on a napkin.

Gave the guy a call and had a little chat, he sounds pretty serious but I'm not sure if he's talking crap or not.
Anyways conversation went on and I told him a number that I would consider selling for and he says sure I'd be happy to pay
that and take it off your hands.

So the way it sits should I/could I take $26k for it and run!

I totally don't get that.  What's the point in buying a pre-blinged bike?  What are you gonna do then?

Only if you're ready to sell it. Do you wish you'd asked for more?  [cheeky]

I used to get offers to buy an HQ I was driving that I had restored.  I took peoples' details and contacted them when I was ready to sell.

No need to spend another cent is very attractive to many people, especially those who are not technical inclined to replace bits and pieces on their ride.

Yeah but some people are just happy to take what they see.

I'm a little like  :-\ at the moment.
But that kinda money does make it worth a more serious conversation.

Take the 26k and run.
On the proviso you ride on sunday and buy another Monster [thumbsup]

what would you do with the money? get a new bike and personalize it? do you really want to do that again?

also i had a 78 mustang that was in decent shape, i met a guy who offered me 5k for it which was 3k more then i paid. at the time i didnt want to even consider selling it. then about a year later when i needed to sell it i could get an offer over 2k and at this point it had plenty of bolt on goodies to make it worth even more. so i say if you ever get offered more then what it ever will be worth... take it.

1 do you want or are you ready to sell?
2 do you need the $$ ?
3 if you did get that type of $$ form him what would you buy next?
4 If you did go through with it I'd wanna see the colour of his $$$$

It's tempting.................... :-\

All very good valid points.

Firstly hell yes I'd buy another bike, a Monster would be first on the list but then I've always had a love for another.
Yes it does make me very interested to see if he does actually have $$$ behind those words.
I don't think you are ever really ready to sell a bike, it's either circumstance or that you get a silly offer.

Spot on Matty, Bikes are just one of those things that you're never really ready to part with.

Obviously the buyer is a consumer of finished goods..
I know it's not necessarily about the coins, but 26K is "don't argue" dollars (assuming he has the money).

Interested to see what you decide to do.. Tough choice!

$26k = Air-cooled Monster + Ducati trackbike

Is that enough perspective for you?

Matty ..... if you are happy with the figure and its a real deal than sell it and don't think twice.....take the money and start with a blank canvas. its not a irreplaceable masterpiece. given the funds you can have a identical bike and bling within a month; but why?
sell it if you think that the $26K is a fair amount. you know yourself it's not easy to sell these days
to this day I regret turning down $20K (!) from the guy who wouldn't stop chasing me with a fist full of dollars ... don't make the same mistake

....and if it turns out to be a "bs" than you loose nothing and won't regret nothing either

So conversation is happening now.
I have told perspective buyer it's his for that money and to let me know when he wants to pick it up.
Of course we'll go to the bank he can either give me a fist full of $$$ or a money transfer and cooling off period.

Yes Betty it could equal a 2V Monster and track bike but I think I may have already lined up another ride if it sells.
It's not a 2V but it is a very very well set up Monster of the 4V variety.
Let's now see what happens.

Suzy - I'm starting to get a bit worried about you - first, you are going riding with BMWs, now you're suggesting Matty buy an  [puke]   Oldwing [puke].

Next you'll be fabricating Zimmer frames (go fast ones hopefully)  [cheeky]

Geeze Matty, I'm trying to flog the ST and here you are in a very nice position to do a deal. but I'm a wee bit envious of your situation.

But to answer your question, I would but..... only if I think I have been offered more than what I think its worth, which is usually more than what its really worth.

Good luck with your decission Matty  [thumbsup]

Yeah it's funny hey Mmick, when you are trying to sell you get tyre kickers galore
and when you are just out on your usual business you get an offer out of left field.

The guy has been on the phone a few times this afternoon and now wants to come for another look tomorrow afternoon.
It's now getting more interesting as he is looking more serious!

I used to get offers to buy an HQ I was driving that I had restored.
ah a girl after my own heart!  I am currently cruising around in a totally original unrestored HQ Prem (needs a repaint badly) and yet I am people offering me money for it.  I have promised it to my young daughter - so no amount of money is going to make me sell it.

This comes to my next point - I too have put ridiculous figures on the HQ to dissuade people from buying it - at the end of the day it is something that I have an emotional attachment to.  I have sold too many vehicles for all the wrong reasons - money, pissed off with it, troubles (both mechanical and  [leo]).  I have only just realised that I have been putting myself through a vicious circle of buying vehicles to substitute for the ones I have sold.  I should never of sold my first Ducati - a 500 Pantah.  I replaced it with a 650, sold that, and replaced it with my Monster S2R1000.  I have made the promise to myself that I am not selling it (bar some dire and I mean DIRE situation).

I guess what I am saying Matty is that you are probably like the rest of us - we ride a Ducati for a reason.  It makes me feel cool, special, and blows my cares away when I am on it.  I am passionate about Ducatis and owning one completes that bike rider part of me.  I love this Monster as it is my first, and I (after a misspent youth of buying/selling vehicles) now understand that there is an emotional attachment that no money can substitute.  Sure your getting excellent money for your bike, but make sure your not leaving a gap or regrets when you see it leave.  No amount of $$$ can replace that.

That is just my 2 cents!  [thumbsup]

All nice thoughts.

The 1098s trackie would have most of my interest.
Lets see if I have some money to go shopping next week.

If it does come about I do have plans that have been in my head for a couple of years.  ;D

That would start with something like this.

I just hope that the guy wasn't looking to find out where the bike is regularly parked with a view to acquiring it through 'other' means. Be wary of strangers offering pots of gold.

I was just about to say this guy has more money than sense! $26K! FARK ME! I would have taken his money and laughed all the way to the bank. Sure it's a gorgeous bike, but worth $26000, I think not. That's just ridicurous.  [roll]  Wasn't even worth that new.
