Inspired by Triangleforge's riding dad thread, I snapped a few of his ship.
It was a gift from me about twenty years ago. At first he wasn't too happy, this ship comes as a pile of wood, he knew it was going to be a test of his patience. I knew that he always wanted to build one, so I challenged him.
It took him several years, sometimes getting sick of it, but he has been happy and proud that he
managed to complete it at last.
It's now in his room at his retirement home and I know he will be excited to read what you guys have to say about it [thumbsup]

That ship is awesome. [thumbsup]
Did he have to make the sails also?

Oh yes! they came as a sheet of canvas.
That's amazing! What's the dimension of the ship? Name and year of the ship? Maker? I have been fascinated with model building since I was a kid. Mostly just war planes an cars (motorcycles recently). I had always dreamed about building a ship like this. This is truly magnificent! Compliment to your father and his craft!

Thank you! I'm really sorry - I have no information about the original ship. It's 30 inches tall.
:o [clap] [bow_down]
Wow!
That is amazing. I certainly don't have the patience or the manual dexterity to complete something like that.
Good on ya, stopintime's Dad! [thumbsup]

Excellent build...I have never had that kind of patience
get him another :)
That shows a level of patience I hope to achieve one day [laugh]
It looks really impressive, monumental effort.
If someone had of given a model like that to me, I would have started, gotten pissed off and then taken it to the backyard...
And set it on fire! [evil] all In less than 10 minutes! ;D
That is so completely badass!! Nice work to your pops. [thumbsup]
Pfft. He should have built it in a bottle.
sac
/Kidding of course. That thing rocks!

That's an amazing piece of work! [clap]
wow. really nice.
I tried to start model building to work on my patience, but the kids don't give me time. they want to 'help.' I have a couple 1/2 started ones in their boxes, just waiting for me to finish.
still haven't learned much patience.
I couldn't have done that.
Well, I couldn't have done that build as a stocker. I would've modified it somehow.... Tail-chop, Termi-cannons, CF sails... Sumptin' other than a pure stocker. ;D ;D ;D
Very nicely done. Props to you, good sir! [thumbsup]
Crongratulations Stopintime's far! Selvfølgelig Vikings har vært å bygge skiber i århundrer, men dette er virkelig en utmerket arbeid! Slike detaljer! Du må være veldig stolte av! (Och ursäkta mig för min dåliga australisk-svensk-norsk :)).
Awesome. [thumbsup]
that is magnificent!
and it must be a pregnant dog to clean [laugh]
Nice work!
Brings back memories. ..

Very good!!! Particularly as I understand it, this was his first and only model? A project like this can be extremely theraputic...the concentration required keeps the mind sharp, as well as solving the inevitable problems and mistakes. Kudos to him for not loosing interest and completing it!
My pops is 82 and has been continuously building flying models since he was 12 years old. Both my brother and I literally learned our crafts at his knee. He builds strictly from his own designs and has an amazing ability to solve problems in extremely elegant ways (he builds his own electric motors from modified hard-drive components). He is starting to feel his age though...even though he still plays raquetball a couple times a week, his back is not allowing him as much time to work on his models as he would like. I told him that he should build smaller planes...his current project is a 1/4 scale Beriev Be-103.
A previous project of his:

Thought there was a thread on here about model ship building, as I have just started thinking about restarting my ship model.
I got it about 6 years ago and have only made the frame of the ship, i.e bulkheads, deck and the jig it sits on. Have had to chamfer the bulkheads to put the planking in, that's where I stopped. Planking the keel has spooked me and made me stick it back in the cupboard, but I need to get back into this to keep my mind occupied lest I start doing things I shouldn't be doing. [evil]
Hopefully will be half as good as the one the OP posted. [thumbsup]
To think about building all the careful woodwork, knowing that all the sail and rigging was yet to do... Awesome job!
I've been on the Niagra when it was in Green Bay, WI for tall ship days. I was with a friend of mine from PA that crewed on it earlier that year. Pretty neat. At Camp Perry, Ohio, there is a big mural on the wall in the main auditorium with the Niagra in its Naval Action on Lake Erie.
[thumbsup]
[clap] awesome. That is amazing. Well Done !
