Title: Anyone Riding Back-Roads on 7/ 24 or 7/25?
Post by: Stinson on July 12, 2010, 05:44:12 PM
I road with a few members this past weekend and I had a blast!  I have not stopped thinking, reliving, and talking about the ride...  I'll be out of town this weekend but would love to ride with a more experienced rider or riders the weekend of July 24th and/or the 25th.

Does anyone have plans for a back road ride and are you willing to let a newbie slow them down?  If so, please post them so I can join.

Thanks,
Stinson

I may be interested in an early east/north ride as well.  And don't worry... there's no way in hell you are slower than me.  [thumbsup]

Two directions and two days to decide upon.
Plus it's two weekends away.
Let the kettle simmer for a bit. Let's see what brews 8)

I agree. Weather/heat/rain always play a major factor in a ride. Plus some folks may want to go early, some later and "the where do you want to go" is always important. Kettle simmering never hurts. Besides, there is an ongoing argument as to who's the slowest and I have not yet participated in that contest. ;D [moto]

I'll try to make this.  Early is good.  The mid-day heat is unbearable in gear.

I appreciate that but it is far from needed for me...  I simply want to ride on nice roads with fun routes, and with good people.  The heat is killer so an early ride would be nice. You guys tell me where and when to meet and I'll be there!  I can barely wait...

If we do Muenster, I'd sure like to hit 385? into Sanger. It's the one Will had on his gps that we almost missed even with the gps.
Also, I could check on the little dog I hit :-\

I'll ride wherever, but the roads east of Celina are technical asphalt.

I'm not anti Muenster, just tired of Muenster for now.

The roads East of Celina aren't the same ones you rode last time.  I'm going much further out, think NE of McKinney.  Anyway, no worries, I'll do my thing either way.

We could detour off near Whitewright/Bonham and do a few of the roads from the old Swanny route ( ftm697 and 898), then head up for lunch at the casino and back down those twisties again on the way home.

here you go:

short route, not to technical: meet in mckinney and take 75 north to fm455 west to 289 north to fm121 west to 377 north to fm922 west to fm372 north and eat in gainsville.

long route, prob to complicated unless you have gps: meet in lewisville and take 35n to teasley east across the lake, north/west on fm 720, east on 380, north on fm 1385, east on fm455 through celina to anna, take 5 north to van alstyne, east on fm121 to 160 north west on 697 into sherman.

took about an hour! of course i don't know if any of these are worth a shit because i live in texas not oklahoma.

Hey Lise, the Eurpsport ride is this weekend not next.
Which is food as I work Satand Sun.

Also, this year the Summer ride theme is leave before
sunup, skip lunch as we get home by noon to beat
the heat.    [thumbsup]

I don't think getting home before noon will matter.  Shit, it's been 100 by 10 a.m. lately.  This shit is for the birds.  Must find summer retreat soon!

Yep, even cruising around on a night ride sucks these days; both of my motos are under their covers and resting peacefully in the garage  :P   I HATE Texas summers... I grew up here and you just never get used to the blast furnace outside.

[bang] My bike will be out of commission this weekend so I will not be able to ride...  this is a major letdown for me but I am sure we'll all get to ride soon enough.  Be safe if you guys make it out on the road.

BTW, I will be attending the AMS BBQ tomorrow and hope to meet some of you there.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think this ride has died on the vine.  HOWEVER, if you're free on Sunday morning (7/25) around 9am, there's a Duc meet-up downtown Dallas at Zaguan Bakery.  Here's a link with directions (straight down the North Dallas Tollway, exit Oak Lawn):

Hope to see you there  [moto]

Kevin and I had a nice spin out 455 to Tioga for a Clark's BBQ lunch. [thumbsup] I thought I had heard that 455 from 75 west had been completely repaved (senior memory in full effect here...), the road seemed somewhat better but was far from what I expected. It didn't have that just repaved flat smooth look in the turns. It has been beat to shit in the turns for so many years. I swear they (the county road crews) have left it that way on purpose to keep sport bike riders off the roads. Nothing but tractor slow cruisers on it that bother no locals. Anyway, good BBQ lunch and a decent spin. Nothing special just nice. [moto]

What I'd like to do when it gets cooler is do the Clark's/Tioga run for lunch but continue on afterwards toward Gainesville (922 out of Tioga then 372) then slab it on 82 to Muenster, do the North loop, then home via the normal Muenster, Decatur, etc. route. Haven't done that in years. Lots of variations to that ride.

Fastwin, it is funny that the "locals" complain of sportbikes speeding down "their" roads. I almost always see "locals" speeding in their cars, trucks and even semi's on their roads. Most of the time they cross the center stripe in the turns. The very first time I rode up FM 697 I had three close calls with vehicles crossing the the line and speeding.

What's really f#@ked up is they banned bicycle traffic on 455 from Celina to the east towards 75/Anna years ago! >:( Seriously, just how much traffic problems are caused by cyclists on a country two lane road? What asshole passed that law? [bang] In the 80's I used to truck my bike to Celina and ride 455 back and forth all the time. I never had any problems back then. Granted all the yankees moved here around that time (last guy out of Detroit needs to turn the lights out!) and I guess they developed a mad on about cyclists. I have never ever seen another road in TX that banned cyclists... no shit, not even the Tollroad! Collin County/Celina area residents have got some major issues. Who the f#@k hates bicycles that bad? No wonder they left the road so screwed up. We motorcyclists are just motorized bicycles to some city council member in Celina :P

I'm all for cyclists sharing the road of all types.  What I have noticed is that sometimes when they bunch up they use up the entire lane, maybe that's the sore spot for some.  That said I think people who drive too slow should also be banned because they too hold up traffic.  IMO share the road and be mindful that traffic creeps up behind you so move over and let them through.

Some people are just too sensitive.  What happened to the good'ole days?

Do these cyclists ride on low traffic Sun mornings
like we do?  I don't know. Are farm implements allowed
on these roads?  Granted farmers are working to
make us food.
