OK so hopefully the title doesn't scare people off (I stole it).
I thought I would create a separate thread for the next big group ride. There was a lot of talk following the last one but there has been no action for a while and the time is fast approaching.
There were a number of suggestions floating around but the main one was that this was to be a Sunday run ... so we will start there.
Suggested dates were 25th July, 1st August, 8th August. Despite a few changes of direction the date with the least objections seems to have been Sunday 1st August ... sorry Paul, SWMBO will be riding pillion that day.
So at the moment I will run with that date, now as for location ... Hambo has just suggested the Putty in the track day thread - so I will run with that too.
No that I have all my ramblings out of the way, what do you think?
Sunday 1st August
Putty Road Loop
Oh, I just remembered ... will some have to carry fuel reserves?
wilberforce to broke is 147klm off my bike.......there was one other servo about 30k up the road from wilberforce........but i will have to check it out ......so 2v should be fine ...ill leave it to others to comment on 4v

That's pretty accurate info. I am not sure exactly how the 4v mob will go but surely at 147km they won't have to push too far ;D
Unfortunately the 1st August is no good for me
Sadly I lost a good friend this week and we are skatering his ashes in the waves of Whale beach that day on a mass paddle out.

Sorry to hear that Dez, hopefully the seas are good for your paddle out.
Of course if we have enough dissenters we may be able to switch dates
Yes, I finally have a free Sunday. Lock me in Mark.
Wow good to have you out and about with us bret
Tentatively in. Betty I assume you are talking Colo -> Putty -> Broke -> Wollombi -> Old Road Loop? -> http://bit.ly/d3BkqL (http://bit.ly/d3BkqL)

Based on Hambo's post that is what I was assuming too.
Or we could come in through Somersby :-\ ... with no stopping at Kulnura :-[

K's sound fine I might just make it [cheeky]
But I should have a newly serviced bike by then so I might even push 160+ but then I did that one the way back from
the last little Dez outing!
Damn!!
I hate working Sundays, might go for a ride with Pigmy tomorrow
Mmick (HEY PIGMY!! wanna go for a ride 'morra)
iwork saturdays so sunday is good
cant remember last time i did a putty ride so looks like its time
might be a bit chillly though
whats this talk of fuel ???
last i remember when i did putty run on the 916 at speed [evil] [moto] fuel at windsor mobil 105 to halfway 165 at broke 916 took 12 litres , other boys that filled at wilberforce were RF900 13L VTR1000 14L

Incase you did not know - Halfway house is gone.
Who remembers the Oz Monster ride on that very day before it burnt to a crisp. I remember Matty and Tricolore getting complimentary jerry can fuel from the owner at the H/W House as there was none in the bowser. And Rob S did the ride with an open face helmet - You were game Rob and it was cold. We had lunch at blue tongue brewery to avoid Wollombi pub....memories...

i rode a suzuki across a while back up there 6 litres at the halfway house and then another 8 at broke [laugh] holding throttle wide open most of the way from putty road to broke causes problems with fuel consumption [cheeky]
Putty is a great ride for a Sunday morning, I have been doing it twice a week since getting my bike back...
Colo heights servo is the usual breakfast spot, clouse and his misses do a good "big breakfast"
I hope I don't have to work so I can tag along
Well it seems that we haven't had too many dissenters ... so notwithstanding adverse weather conditions it looks like we might be on. Seems we should be able to make the requisite stops every 120kms or so.
Anybody care to nominate a start place and time?
Another couple of thoughts ...
. Many of us have never been a fan of the dirt leading into Wollombi ... we could avoid this by heading out to Cessnock from Broke
. This opens up some other options besides the pub at Wollombi for lunch ... maybe somwhere like Paxton (I think some people are still waiting for their lunch order to be filled from many rides ago)
. Then we will have the option of continuing through to Wollombi (preferred) or back to the freeway for a quicker trip home
Just thoughts of course, any views?
Perhaps we can do what we did last time and head into The Hunter for lunch.
Options are endless there, then we can head back to Wollombi and back down from there.
Starting point I'd say would be the same place we have met recently on the Bells run and myself and Gino (if coming)
can make a quick splash at Colo Heights or wherever the last fuel is before heading up Putty.

You may not be the only ones that need a top up ... just sayin'
But you're right plenty of lunch options ... just might need to venture from the well worn path.
Yep lots of places to eat in The Hunter.
So you're saying you might need a pre-fuel stop also, do you now have a 4V-er also?
Is that the "special" project you two have had up your sleeve. ;)
Hmm special project matty was for me this is for betty hmmm oopps did I something

I will accept that confirmations are weather dependent, but how about we start. This will allow us to make sure we each have a couple of numbers in our phones ... but you will be chasing those up on your own (just easier if you have a list to work to).
Plus if anybody has a suggestion for a lunch spot ... post away!

Okay just spoke to Blue Tongue and Claudio will be playing on Sunday.
Sooooooo maybe we find somewhere else hey?
I'm with J5. Riding an extra 40+ minutes to avoid ~700 metres of dirt doesn't seem worth it, especially if we have a large group. Putty is a longish day, especially if you start late.

road, it's just made of dirt and sometimes has a few little potholes). The Wollombi Road from Cessnock to Wollombi is one of the crappest bits of tarmac in NSW and it lasts about 20
KILOMETRES, just to avoid the unpaved section.
Yes, for those that went last time, I am just trying to avoid Blue Tongue Cafe in case Claudio Meyer is there again:
Claudio Meyer Rocks Out. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3jhVUGClYs#normal)
I reckon we go the direct route, it easy enought to handle the 700m's of of unpaved road. This way we get to Wollombi earlyish to try to beat any rush, get a pie or a burger then ride on. If the pub is stupid packed, we can go to one of the other cafes in Wollombi.
If we have 10+ bikes on the road it will take us frikkin
ages as it is, let alone injecting another 50+ minutes of riding the goat track through Cessnock.
Even with this run, the timing will be getting tight for those that need to traverse the city again to get southside to get home.:

Looks fine to me really. I have no problem with a bit of dirt, road it when we did the Northern Mystery loop.
I do agree if we have a group of 10+ the timing will be extended.
Like I said majority rules.
I know a certain someone that won't be very happy about the dirt (sorry graded, unpaved section) ... but I would say there is next to no chance she will be stopping at Kulnura.
Is another fuel necessary? My calcs have it at about 140km between fuel stops if we don't stop at Kulnura.
This sounds alright... I might be a start too.

Having said that - I ride over this dirt section all the time. It's nothing to worry about.
So 3 votes for dirt.
If I didn't have my strong suspicions that we had ridden that 'well graded unsealed section' more than most of you I might be taking this personally.
I did offer other reasons for a slightly different route ... are the Claudio Fan Club serious?

Not sure if it would be any faster heading back to the freeway from Wollombi (but would make sense if we went to Cessnock/Pokolbin for lunch) ... but the trip home can be shortened by using the freeway. This all means you may be doing the last part on your own, with anybody else with a deadline or with Rob if he is riding cupcake on the 695.

Apparently (according to netrider) many [moto] get it wrong and end up on the armco.
Funny that you should mention Lemmings Dez.......cos only last summer......my mate went missing...we headed back and found him there with a slightly modified gear lever and dented pride......otherwise ok........lever fixed at Wollombi Pub........should not have been riding that day tho......40 degs cels....silly us......

its more a problem heading to wollombi than from wollombi as it decreases radius
I'm guessing that means your won't be joining us Dez?
Last count we are looking at almost 20 folks out :o Wow.
I might even take a camera this run. ;D ;D
I'm in for Sunday. What say 8:30am departure? and straight through from Broke to Wollombi?
Meeting Point: Caltex, Windsor Rd, Kellyville Ridge (http://bit.ly/du5VWY) (next to Maccas, just past the Ettamogah monstrosity Pub)
guys so jealous of you all having a fun ride together - be safe and stay upright! [thumbsup] [moto]
Sounds good, looks good. Got a feshly serviced bike, new rubber and ready to go.
Talking with a certain someone, there could be a parting of the ways at Broke. But I'm OK with that.
Just out of interest, it must have been about this time last year we were entertained by the irrepressible Claudio ... did that end up an overly long day?
I don't think so but then there wasn't this many people going.
That is if everybody gets along.
From memory I think we were back Berowra way about 3:30-4-ish

I'll join you guys at the start for the first section.

yep im in .....so long as the bike is in the garage when i get up......haha [moto]
8:30 sharp departure means we all need to be there by 8:15 at the latest to fuel have a bite
get a bit warm again and go.
My view is similar to usual 8:30 for 9am departure, as there are some coming from Nth.
Days are actually getting longer now, no longer is it dark at 4:30.
Remembering we now don't have the Halfway House as a stop so there'll be 20-30 mins up our sleeve.
Shenanigans!
And my bike's all nice and clean, having been washed today.
Rugby is cancelled. I'm in ;D
all going well, 8.30 it is........
Sorry, I cant make it. Ride safely
Don
what a perfect day for it! Have a good one and be safe
Thank you all for coming out for a wonderful day. I had been very concerned about the weather but it turned out to be perfect.
Probably the biggest turn-out for Monsters on the one run (correct me if I'm wrong). So many I didn't even get the chance to chat to or meet everyone ... 18 Monsters I think + some goose on a Superbike. Also had one of Ecster's mates meet us at the halfway house on his 1098.
Bestest thing was that a few more people got to sample the delights of Claudio Meyer!
Lets see if this works.....

Thankfully we are all good environmental citizens that offset our emissions and keep our machines well maintained.
If we chose to drive around in huge behemoths on the other hand the distance we travelled would be irrelevant.
Great day.
And Betty you thought you had no friends :-[
20+ Bikes is not bad a will possibly go down as record. :o
Even had the Paperazzi out.

And Claudio was at his usual best we should lock it in as a annual event [beer]
Best group ride we've had and yes the most people ever gathered.
18-20 people I think.
Poor Brett looked like his ears had been insulted by Claudio. Sorry about Claudio but the food is cheap and easy.
Such a great day on the bike, sitting at the dinner table I felt like I was still riding...
Thanks to the newbie's for coming out to meet up, hope you can come out again.
Yes we try to do a bigger group ride ever 2nd month or so.
Keep you eye out for the new thread each time.
And now.
We think someone left these on the table at Road Warriors.

On rotation should be the first Saturday in October ... but I would think that will be the long weekend and double demerits.
Perhaps Saturday 25th September (yes 2010)? I'm sure that date clashes with something important ... but I'm sure you will all let me know soon enough.

Good to see you 'packin' on a run again Matty.
Yeah I thought I'd bring out the big gun today.
Still seemed to be not wide enough as by the evidence from Rob and my fence surfing.
awesome day. ;D
except claudio. :'(
Good to meet you all today and thanks to everyone for being so welcoming to a newbie to motorbikes, Ducati's and group rides.
I was originally planning to turn back when we got to Colo, but I am glad that I stayed for the whole day. My back, arse, neck and legs are not so happy.
Special thanks to Jukie who stayed with my slow arse the entire way.
A big hallelujah to my good samaritan in the white ute who pulled over to give me fuel, about one minute after I pulled over realising I could no longer giggle any more petrol out of the tank to feed the 620's sputtering engine.

the branch landing in my lap :o .

Seriously though, I waited in both instances until I could see through - probably looked a lot more hairy from 20-30m back than from where I was sitting.

Matty......lets just face the facts and be honest.......Claudio is a great conversation piece, and daren't i say a legend in here these days.......why.........who else has his name mentioned as many times as "CM" in the forum..........?
He's our un-official mascot!
Wow , i would'nt go that far ! :-\
He doesn't look like the guy in the photo on the Bio! On Sunday he had that stupid grin on his face all the time
When he started coming down from his hill playing his tryhard sexy guitar with the fake back up band with that look on his face , i really got the creeps seriously ! [puke]
Gino.......just be carefull of what you say here regarding Claudiio........heard a rumour that he is the father of a certain forum member.....did you not notice who suggested Blue Tongue Brewery...? sworn to secrecy though (M.V.).......... [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Your right though . I'm sure he's a nice guy.Just got me at a time when i needed a bit of peace and quiet ! I take it all back :)
OK enough Claudio talk. Let's get back to more important things like where are we going on the next marathon. How about the Oxley Hwy?
Oxley Hwy.......? we will need to pack more than a picnic lunch for that ride....though i have heard that it is one of the best roads for bikes .......
