Title: Shorty Glove needed
Post by: He Man on July 22, 2010, 03:51:36 PM
I need a new shorty glove and i dont want to spend $80 bucks or $100 bucks on them because of the glvoes ive had, they generally only last 1.5 seasons, so im expecting to have to replace them in that time frame anyway.

I was thinking about the tourmaster deerskin gloves without side seems. they look really comfortable but ive never used deer skin before. its priced reasonably. and i really need a pair right now. Mine are ripped and torn in several places and smell like ass and im wearing my track gloves instead which are roo skin and i dont want to waste them on commuting.

http://www.newenough.com/street/gloves/street_short_cuff/tour_master/deerskin_leather_motorcycle_gloves.html (http://www.newenough.com/street/gloves/street_short_cuff/tour_master/deerskin_leather_motorcycle_gloves.html)

has anyone ever tried this? the lee parks deerskin glove is WAY to much for me.

Deerskin is very soft.

They wouldn't be very good in this heat we are having.

Why not get a good pair and when you get home just get a bucket or even a pot or pan and mix a little laundry soap ( like a teaspoon ) in w, the rest cool water, make bubbles, and pour 1/2 in one glove and if it has some vent holes it will drain out or if not vent holes squeeze the end and shake the glove so as to make more bubbles , then pour it out and replace w, clean water and do the same thing as w, the soapy water. Then do the other glove.

Then hang them to dry but not near any direct heat source.

It's the sweat that ruins your gloves and shortens their life span.

Buy a decent pair now, take care of them.

Next year buy another decent pair and take care of them .

Pretty soon you will have several pairs that you will rotate and they will last for years.

I used a pair of these for a couple years - if I could sew one the velcro pieces back on I would still use them.  Velcro coming off is not a reflection of the quality, but my laziness - I pulled on the velcro, and not the leather flap on the palm of the hand to get these on.
These took a little breaking in, but once they were, they were comfortable. I liked that there were two layers of leather sandwiching kevlar on the palm, and bigger piece of CF covering the majority of the back of your hand. I think these are a steal for $50

those A* gloves look comfy and right in my price range.

Dolph, how often do you wash your gloves? i actually wash mine about once every 2 months, but i get caught in rain storms so oftem its more like one every month.

not to mention, for most shorty gloves, ill leave it on when i do certain things including pumping gas, signing documents, buying a soda, etc.

He Man,
I generally ride for 4-5 hours at a time and if the weather is warm ( I can't ride if it's hot) and my hands have sweat ed I will wash
my Gloves each time I ride .

I usually only ride about 1-2 times a week.

I have 9 pairs of long gauntlet Gloves so I rotate my gloves .

I may not wear a certain pair but once every 9 rides .

I have some Gloves that are 5 yeas old that are still in excellent condition.

Also after I wash my Gloves and they dry , I condition them w, Lexol which I get at Auto Parts Stores for like $10 .

Dolph.... :)

RS Taichi Velocity Mesh.

Great price, great brand. AWESOME in the heat, with a decent amount of protection. The wrist padding is nice, and the knuckle protection rivals my A* GP gloves'.

I love the A* Sledge glove, and that was my first choice, but they are no longer in existence.

I just ordered a pair of the sledge gloves from newenough.com.  They don't have all sizes or colors,  but you can still get them.  And as a bonus they are on sale.

someone in the gear for sale thread had some Rev'it R-59s for cheap. Those are great short gloves and they don't make them anymore.

I have had these for 2 years now:

http://www.amazon.com/Olympia-734-Digital-Protector-Gloves/dp/B001A3LBL8/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1281818059&sr=1-7 (http://www.amazon.com/Olympia-734-Digital-Protector-Gloves/dp/B001A3LBL8/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1281818059&sr=1-7)

I love them.  They aren't $10 but they will save your ass.. well.. hands in a fall very well.  A guy I used to ride with wore them and rolled down the FDR -- his hands came out fine.

You can find them around 40 if you look.

I've got the Dianese Moto-X gloves and i really like them
i got them from cycle gear because of their return policy. If you dont like them for any reason, you can bring them back anytime...i saw returned gear there that was two seasons old. So if they only last 1.5 seasons and you feel they should have lasted longer, bring them back and they'll either refund you, or give you a replacement pair

Check them out, the're on sale too
EDIT:
Cycle gear is out of stock, but motowheels has them

you mean these? :D

They have about 5 holes in them. They are actually very good gloves, but were pricey when i bought them ($90). They ate the pavement hard twice. I would not get them again because the fingers are not comfortable. the Olympias Ducatiz posted have actuated fingers (or watever thats called). I have that on my track gloves and they are UBER comfortable! The daineses also dont absorb vibration very well on the handle bars. Im hoping that gel will make my rides more comfortable.

no they are not mechanics gloves!

HELD -Short Roo's
Kangroo palm - the rest goat - they don't bleed and all the seams are stitched on the outside of the glove - they run pretty much to size according to their size chart - they are really well made

I love my Alpinestars SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves.  They held up for about 4 years now but need to be replaced.  I will probably just get the same ones again.  They are my everyday, no wet weather, not going on a long ride glove.

I was thinking of some new shorties too.  Maybe these?  I'll have to try them on at the local store first for size.

rev'it monsters are awesome...  great feel and the fit on them is perfect.

i had the a*'s sps and there is no comparison btwn the two... sps's just felt bulky and clumsy after wearing the rev'its...

plus, i mean... it's called the monster... what else do you need to know?  haha

OKAY! so i destroyed the set of olympia gel gloves that ducatiz recommended.

(http://www.amazon.com/Olympia-734-Digital-Protector-Gloves/dp/B001A3LBL8/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1281818059&sr=1-7 (http://www.amazon.com/Olympia-734-Digital-Protector-Gloves/dp/B001A3LBL8/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1281818059&sr=1-7))

I put a hole in each of the pointer and middle finger on the left hand side, and tore the velcro cuff off. And then I lost them at home depot. they have it at the service counter but its not even worth going back for em.

So i need a new shorty glove.

was thinking about these

http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=8457 (http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=8457)

or for a 3/4 glove (not a shorty not a full gauntlet)

i actually picked up 3 jackets, and 2 gloves so he threw in some freebies. I got a Womens Siren, Mens Air and The Goretex GTX defender plus another pair of gloves. i may end up selling the goretex because its just slightly too large for me.
